Thanks.
I never expected to be thanking the white rabbit!

Well said Helix. I have been shocked at the childish and nearly frenzied behaviour in the SS forum. Jon and SS have always been fair and open in the past. People reacted like spoiled children instead of professionals.

You really don't like Shutterstock do you?

I am happy to pay taxes when they are due, and to comply with the law.
Shutterstock is trying to comply with the law of their country.

Sure, contributors will need help, especially the one's who don't speak English. I am also sure that they will be given help if they ask.

Instead of such alarmist overreaction and hysteria, why don't you calmly face the situation and deal with it?

Thanks for your replies.
I don't think I will be paying out $100,000 for a camera in the near future! ;D

I have a 5d mkII, and am enjoying making short films. I had two accepted on SS and Fotolia, nothing to be proud of but a beginning ;).

Can anybody explain how to do slow motion film? It look a lot of fun. Is it the software or can my camera not do it at all?

I can log in with no problems, and the site is exceptionally fast. Now if there were just a few more sales there........ ;)

Great post!  ;D
I was just reading the istock forums. I can stay until I reach the 3rd or 4th 'Awesome!' then I have to go and get a dose of normality.

It is a loss, uploading that many images by their snappycrappy upload ordeal. Veer might have a very good name in the MR or high end stock world, but if they inherited any of the staff and/or programmers from SV, they will fail in the microstock world.

Yes, but the staff will have nice 'holidays' while they are 'brainstorming'.
I won't forgive them for that one. It was unforgivable for them to take that freebie while starting a new site.
Nothing came of it except their tans.

I got accepted, even though I have not uploaded anything for months and months, and I am a female.

So don't put it on a Microstock site. That is the point of microstock, high volume and low prices.

Good post FlemishDreams,
I have just woken up to this and have not had time to think it through, but in principle I like the idea. It is exciting.
We have to bear in mind that a lot of us need the money from the micros. We cannot just stop uploading to them, but the one month head start for the new site is a really good idea.

The main drive has to be marketing. We need lots of fresh new marketing ideas.Like someone said earlier, designers only know the site they buy from. Why should they search for anything else when it works? We need to let them know there is a viable alternative.
One way is to target the CEO's not the designers. They control the spending in the company.

As to buying out Cutcaster, John may have something to say about that. :o

If we all can keep calm and stop our inflated artists ego's getting in the way, we may be onto something really good.

I have some of those sales, I can still see them in my account.
I would wait until they reply and explain what happened before you start jumping to conclusions. perhaps there was something wrong with the image and the customer complained? We cannot know until you get a reply from them.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Selling with FREE stuff
« on: April 28, 2009, 05:53 »
I sell on a greeting card site, and in their forum today they are talking about getting free images from the stock sites and recycling them as greetings cards. It gave me a very sour taste in my mouth!
They have not a clue about usage rights, they just see the word FREE.

I just opened it using the link on the right. Very slow to open but it got there in the end!

Hi Cora,
I think we may have talked about you many times, we just didn't know your name!
Welcome.  :)

I have an account with Printbusinesscards in my real name of Norma Cornes. I get a good payout every month, thanks to the fact that a lot of customers also buy the full size image. Designing the cards is fun. They are so small that they seem like toys after manipulating full size photos.
Tim is usually very responsive to questions, and very helpful when you have problems. I like the site.
The only criticism is that the front page looks really home-made,not really professional! For a site full of designers, its not the best on earth. :D

I started in Feb 05, with Shutterstock. I earned a grant total of 89c in that first month!
