For Model Shoots I've used: Friends: -Pros: Generally free or a favor in return. Working with someone that you trust. -Cons: Limited time frame usually. You can wear out your welcome or something is expected in return. Family Members: -Pros: Generally free or a favor in return. Less likely of a no-show. Working with someone you can trust. -Cons: Limited time frame usually and usually tire of it easily TFCD models (I have had successes using Perfect Pose Website & CraigsList Ads ... others you can try for TFCD include Model Mayhem etc.) -Pros: Generally free for CD (TFCD). Usually they need the exposure so they will work longer than friends or family members. If it goes well you have a model lined up for future use. -Cons: You have to spend quite a bit of time to both locate one and arrange for one to show up (much easier to do for paid model sessions I would imagine). Working with a stranger. Paid Models (I hope to explore this in the future in order to foster more PROS and alleviate some of the CONS mentioned above) I hope this helps. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I have 130 + images currently online with Yay and am in the process of once again uploading to them. I have over 300+ to upload that have been approved at SS or IS and probably another 300-400 that have been approved in places like 123rf or BigStock.
I am still awaiting my first sale at Yay.

I have been experimenting with "donate" at 123rf. I have several images which have had 6-8 free downloads so far. This shows up on the total number of overall downloads for an image when you click through on it and I hope it will increase its overall search exposure over time.
My sales at 123rf had been pretty low lately despite taking full advantage of the "fav" program, so I felt it wouldn't hurt to try donating some images in effort to increase my portfolio's overall exposure.
I've been testing this for about a month now and will let you know if I see any significant increase in sales in my 123rf portfolio which has over 700 images.

October 27th is the anniversery of the last sale I had at MostPhotos I continue to upload. With the falling US Dollar, I sure would like to start getting those sales paid in Euros from MostPhotos once again. -Mark

From what I've heard ... any type of currency with the Queen of England on it (paper or coin) is restricted. That expands the currency to all of the countries in that are part of the Commonwealth which I believe include the likes of Australia and Canada which have the queen on their currencies.
Also ... regarding U.S. Currency flat money use to be accepted but is no longer accepted at Shutterstock. New shots of US Currency are okay if it is used in fashions where there is not a complete single "scan" of a single bill within the image.
My two cents ...

My last sale there was nearly a year ago this month My last referral sale there was in February. However since I've had four sales there within a year at midstock prices I will keep uploading (easy) and see what happens. I currently have 712 images online at this time. -Mark

One has to ask where is the majority of the marketing spend ...
I believe emerging markets around the world will be a driving factor for microstock sales for several years.

What I estimate will have the most impact to photographers will be whether the images from Bigstockphoto will be integrated into Shutterstock's database for subscription sales and whether or not Shuttterstock's images will be offered for credit sales using BigStock's model ....

It took me just over a year as well ... working it part-time most of that time. - Mark

This week my 300th image was approved at Shutterstock *I would like to suggest that this link be used for those that would like to keep track of and report their 100th, 200th, 300th etc. and beyond upload milestones for their submissions to SS. I would find being able to draw some comparisons for SS helpful similar to how we compare with the gauges here on MSG for Dreamstime and IS ... -Mark www.PayneImages.com

I am not a huge player in this but for me bigstock has always been a steady performer. The low payouts are great as well.
I agree that at BigStock the 30.00 use to be a plus however I was told by another photographer that they were being changed. Although I haven't looked into it myself as of yet ... probably email notice in the inbox waiting for me to read. Aside from that I would say: #1 SS #2 DT #3 iStock #4 FT #5 123rf #6 BigStock Notable Mention: MP Although I haven't had a sale there in 9 months my revenue from multiple sales at MostPhotos surpasses BigStock & 123rf combined. I believe they have dropped the rating system with their new release which just came out. -Mark -Mark

What is the limitation of the trial version?
The limitation only allows you to upload one image in the trial version. You then need to exit the software and open it up again in order to be able to upload another image if you have not registered the software. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I am still awaiting my first OD sale. However, the reason for that may be that I only have 137 images online at SS so far ...

I had a new BME at Featurepics in July
-Mark
So did I...1 sale for $1.80.
DanP, I'm sorry to hear that Dan. I made $22.58 from my BME in July. As part of my complementing strategy to my microstock sales, I use FP as a "midstock" site with the plan of getting a few higher commission sales there over time. So far, its working. -Mark
