Well, it isn't private incur action.  It's public.

New Sites - General / Re: Free Websites at Coversplash

So, after talking to photographers, they said 'we want to pay you more to be able to charge more'?

"Fountains, bridges, waterscapes, landscapes, landmarks, etc."

Aside from zoo animals and feet, you've named thed the top things that are easy to shoot and don't sell.  Just because you like shooting them doesn't mean anyone necessarily wants to buy them.

Really? These genres don't sell? $hit, better scrap my portfolio of over 5000 images which comfortably bring in well over four figures a month.

Wonder what other landscape photographers think about landscapes being "easy" to shoot?

Notice I didn't say 'good', 'great' or 'epic' landscapes.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is there a new king?
« on: July 09, 2014, 09:35 »
Maybe the queen is the huge influx of contributors.

2256
Yes, actually, I make more at Stocksy than SS, and hundreds times more than the others.  :)

2257
So it sounds like you're not really wanting to compete with Stocksy.  You just want to emulate it without a USP.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Minor or Adult model release
« on: July 06, 2014, 09:09 »
I would err on the side of caution with this one. at time of shooting that model could not have approved those images, it's an interesting question: do they now have adult control over their past images? will my own children, upon turning 18, demand all <18yo images of them at various sites be removed? if they can sign for their junior self then surely they can also question the signed release?

I would say they can't sign for their <18 self. but if you got away with it, and you think there's no drama in the future, then go for it.

Nope.  Just like a model can't come back and change their mind, neither could your kid.  It is the persons likeness they are signing for and either a parent signs if the person is a minor at time of signing, or the model. It has nothing to do with time of shoot.

Dissolve / Re: Introducing Dissolve
« on: July 04, 2014, 17:53 »
"When a contributor signs with Dissolve, their royalties are set for the duration of the contract. So, no need to fear of rates reducing after you’ve signed on."

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Hey guys - The confusing section (as we understood it) has been removed so it shouldn't be an issue for future applicants.  If we didn't get it, or there's another suggestion, let me know.

Yes, you are correct that you receive your fixed royalties of each subscription sale. We have daily subscription plans with $0,15 per image, but your royalty rate remains the same $0.31. Please take a look at our daily plans and you will notice that the most expensive image is $0.46 if customers purchase daily plans.
In addition, we offer a 7-day subscription plan for free to all new customers. You get the same subscription commissions even though it is a free trial.

That does seem pretty clear now.  I also sent an inquiry over the weekend.  I'll dispute their idea of tagging anything they like as a "subscription" as a way out of paying the correct royalties.

2263
I would never consider exclusivity with shutterstock, I now make more at DT & FT and even 123 is gaining on them.

So the behavior of the other agencies isn't even a consideration?

2264
Again, it reads like they don't understand the question.

I wish you were right, but their FAQ seems pretty clear... :(

With subscription plans, Buyers can download photos and vector images. If an image was purchased with any of our subscription plans, your royalty rate is fixed and depends upon your Contributor's Level:

True, but I'm not sure how you can call paying for one month a subscription.  It just isn't.  You might as well just say a credit pack is a subscription and be done.

2265
No, the answers read like they saw the word 'subscription' and a number, so said yes and put a link to an FAQ.

2266
Again, it reads like they don't understand the question.

2267
That reads like the answer of a person who doesn't really understand the question.

2268
How do you know these pay out like that?

2269
"Which Model Will Prevail?   5% Commissions vs.   Set Your Own Prices"

He can call it "Set Your Own Price", but we all know that it is really "Set Your Own Royalty".  When his income goes down, he just increases his markup and the real "price" goes up.

I wouldn't do anything for 5%, though.

2270
Agencies want you to hold copyright to the whole image.  'commercial use' means like an ad, not in a piece you will sell for stock.

The release deals with his age now, at time of signing, not at time of shoot.  Use an adult release and list date of shoot accordingly.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy's call to artist
« on: June 25, 2014, 16:07 »
In the application process it asks for social media links. Is this important? I don't really put my images on social media because if I feel I have a good image I will try to license it rather than giving it away for free.

It isn't about seeing what images you are giving away for free (or if you're doing that at all).  Part of the mindset and money saving facets of the co-operative is that you should make an effort to help promote the site through your contacts.

Please can anyone tell me, what is so good on Stocksy?  I can not find any review of them...

What are you asking?

2274
But exclusive contents can be found on the other micro stock sites as well, like in istock and Dreamstimes. then why the client wouldnt shift to such low cost sites instead of paying so much in Getty Images?

Shelma was referring to RM - micros don't offer image exclusivity.

Getty also has slightly different RF license terms, as well as different customer service that some might find useful for a higher price.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: New Photography Platform

I still don't know what the site is for.  I go here:
http://stock.coversplash.com/photo/136830/No+Fishing+Today

What am I buying?  Am I licensing an image, am I buying a print?  Am I buying a screensaver?  Where's these portfolio pages?  I click on the top left logo and go to: http://stock.photorankr.com/index.php

Wow, look at this non-watermarked image at more than 1000x1000: https://photorankr.com/userphotos/alyssaff37f91f90a37de76900dc562cfb77f6.jpg  Here's a big flower: https://d21z1jiwri71d0.cloudfront.net/userphotos/rose2e1ffd9a03830ab24da537107bd914ba6.jpg

I just don't get it.  Looks like a scattershot approach at something, but I'm not sure what.  Kind of like a prettier flickr, I guess.
