Is it really true that someone who needs an image would be willing to pay $0.25 but not $5.00.
It is true. Mom and Pop clients just don't have the budget. Although a $5 photo is affordable you still have to buy credits - so the minimum they'll pay is $10. If they need 20 photos, it adds up for a small operation with a shoestring budget. And, you can't buy a 25 cent photo anywhere, you have to buy a $250 subscription.

Also, they were out 6 months apart. I think I read elsewhere that it was from Getty - but I can't say for certain as PDN didn't say where it came from - just that it was fantastic the photographer got 2 covers.

Sub! Bummer. Hopefully you will get loads of future sales and will benefit in the long run.

Isn't RM is supposed to prevent things like this from happening...

I can't read whatever language that site is in, but after looking around I am guessing that they let a client pick a photo and then they make a larger than life print of it for display. Maybe it is all legit.

I am pretty sure Josten's swan would never be offered under a "free" section any where - but I have a copy of the blue globes myself. They were on a free photo of the day a couple years back - I think it was Istock? Maybe DT before they changed it to their current way.
What does the language say? Are they representing it as their own? I will send Joss a note about his swan.

I tried to upload a few times in recent past and after churning away for quite a while watching the progress bar, nothing happened. Also found out that some keywords had not arrived on earlier submissions. So I am laying off for a while, and only have a few online.
I really like the site and the owners are very responsive. Commissions are very generous so hopefully the sales will come. They are doing a few different things (selling fonts). I hope they take off.
If they could learn something from DT... we have a contributor area where we can sort our photos by upload date / by sales / by views. I can't find any useable data on Zym.
Does anyone have referrals? A nice reader of my blog signed up under me last week and there is nowhere on the site that I can find reference to it.

I remember a Nikon contest a while back and they qualified a pro as someone who earned more than 50% of their income through photography. So this year I am a pro because I've been shooting lots of schools and leagues with little time for my other ventures. Who knows what I'll be next year... I have a lot of things on the go.

It's no secret who I am, but I removed my direct links when someone threatened to attack the hypocrites who responded to a keywording post a last year and pulled through on his promise. And for what it's worth, my speedometer would only be going about 1km/hr so you can ignore everything I say!.

Has the FT forum erased the topic? I get a bad link when I click the first post.

http://dev13.walla.co.il/?w=/5005/1027951 (The rosewood crib) And does anyone know what kind of site it is? You can click on one of my photos (and many others credited to SS) and it is pretty darn large.

IMO the sites see 95% of us as pawns. They could care less if we stop uploading to them. We can complain all we want to whom ever we want but nothing will change. Do you disagree?
For every photog who either stops uploading or pulls their images, there are 5 to take his/her place.
Does anyone here really think the influx of contributors will slow down giving each of us a say so in how a sites does its business? Please Not in my lifetime You are right - they don't give a crap about us, and the recent 23 cent sub announcement if a perfect example of that. They are sure to acquire several thousand new photographers this year, so why would they need be concerned about you and I? Wont' it be interesting to see who the good guys play out to be and who is actually concerned for the welfare of their artists as much as their bottom line. And you are also right - it won't make a bit of difference if I pull my portfolio, or if me and 1000 others like me remove our portfolios. I don't know about you, but if I knew that the guy who runs the corner store got a young girl drunk and pimped her out to a pal I would never go to his corner store again. Doesn't it appear that some of these agencies are "taking advantage" of their situation? At some point we all have to decide if we are working for a pimp or an agent and where our breaking point is. If 23 cent sales become the new norm, I'll need to find a new hobby. Yes, there's a lot of complaining going on - but it seems that this particular season has had a lot of things to complain about.

But on Istock your chances of making the mentioned 80 bucks from one single photo in one month is very reachable. When photos catch on with Istock they catch fire. (hence the flames).

I wonder how much technical tragedy the implementation will lead to. I hope they pull this "upgrade" off better than V2.

Now it's got me wondering why Pixart wishes it were in his/her power to make this thread disappear.
I know Leaf is concerned about his readers feelings. I guess he has to to maintain order. I don't think this poll was taken in the spirit was intended. I think the OP was trying to shine a light on the fact that more people could pay a membership and it would go to good. It has had the opposite effect though, and has brought out the negative. I would like to think that I know Leaf, but really, I don't know him any better than most of you. What I do know is that I love his site, and as AKA Tom says, he has learned a lot by being here. I'm sure this site has returned more to me than I paid for a membership. Leaf has a few referral links as a way to pay for things, but he has always encouraged everyone to add their own referral links. I think he is more than generous with the way he runs this place. I see MSG as more of a co-op than someone's site. Maybe that's why I get all ruffled when I see the negative talk. If you don't have something nice to say, why bother? But me.....I don't give a crap. I say whats on my mind, and don't care who it bothers. You see, that's the difference between you and me. If I thought that I offended you or lashed out in a moment with malice, it would eat me alive. So Pixart try and have a good day
Thank you, I will. And thank you Leaf, for having the best microstock forum that I have visited.

I'm moving to Renton, Washington very soon ... i have found the man of my dreams (thanks to Microstock, we met on MostPhotos)... you cannot imagine what it is like to meet someone who has STOCK in common with you... its better than chocolate! So we are going to see where that takes us... we both learn so much from each other... you know I think getting to the next level in photography always requires learning and influencing and participating... i am seriously inspired now ( Hi, Mark! )
OMG is that MWP1969? How cool is that? (Or was that Mark from Seattle, I forget???) Anyhow - the first microstock love affair that I've heard of (other than photog/models)... Is that why Mark69 has been so quiet lately? You are keeping him busy? I hope you kids are blissfully happy, and how nice to have a pal with so much in common.

Wow, 65 votes - I'm surprized at how evenly distributed most of the categories are.
