« on: May 20, 2008, 16:39 »
Didn't anyone notice that Jon's statement said that "last month" was their best month ever.  It was also my best month there ever as well.

But May is on track to be my worst in months.  Isn't everyone in that SS thread complaining about May - not April?

When exactly did new sub rates kick in?   Did buyers load up on plans before the new prices kicked in?

Thanks Tom.  I will try a reinstall tonight.  Never thought of that one.

Outlook launches, but it doesn't send and receive.

I can't even find the Belkin software on my computer... I definitely installed it - and I had to stop and start again.  Maybe that messed something up.

Off Topic / Technical advice please!
« on: May 19, 2008, 21:11 »
This is WAAAAY off topic, but I could use some trouble shooting advice please if anyone has a suggestion.

My Linksys router stopped working.  Bought a new Delkin, connected two computers up to it with "wires".
I have Internet access, but can't get into Outlook 2002.   Everything works as normal on the other computer (he uses Outlook "Express".)

I wire my machine right to the modem and Outlook works fine.   Once it "works" I can unplug it from the modem and connect it to the router and Outlook still works.

And then I turn my computer off for the night, and I can't get onto Outlook again without connecting directly to the modem.

Delkin only has help on their website if you cannot connect to the Internet.  The Internet is not an issue!

So - It's not the biggest issue in the world.  Just annoying.  I've been poking around trying to find the reason on the web with no luck...

Can anyone suggest what I should be troubleshooting?

Smart way to justify a trip to New York!

Just one word of advice... contact B&H or whomever and make sure that they have the items on hold for you.   It would be a bummer if you got there and they don't have the items in stock or if Canon has backorders in manufacturing.

I'm in a much smaller market of course.  My dealer matches the best prices around, but I had to wait for most of my lenses.  Too little demand, too much $ in inventory.

4seasons, I hope this 20-photo-newbie wasn't rating your photos 1 by mistake thinking that 1 is best.  Worth sending a note to him, can he change his vote?

I saw that list yesterday (but not on a Canon site) and thought of Ichiro but I didn't see a 500 on the list.  But Ichiro you should go directly to the Canon website to check for certain.  I think you are in Canada though, aren't you?  Canon often doesn't give the same rebates in Canada for some reason.

You know how some sites have a "10,200" images approved today... would be interesting to see their stats posted "1240 images deleted today"!   (one at a time!)  :D

This is a common question, but there are too many variables between individuals and styles, and what is current to predict with any certainty.

Subjects mean a lot.  Unfortunately, you may be the worlds greatest landscape (or whatever niche) photographer - but landscape photos do not really sell like hotcakes - however they will earn a very slow steady income for a long time.

And you may also be disappointed with your immediate results.  You might upload 300 fabulous true "stock" photos, but they may not take off for 3 or more months on some sites, so the immediate return will not be there.  (i.e., don't quit your part-time job if you need the regular income.)

So, the only way to know is to give it try!  It sounds like you have a good plan, and if you can stay on track I am sure you will see rewards.

jsnover, that happened to me once (maybe 3 weeks ago?) when I was on my daily delete ritual.  I wondered the same (especially since I blogged about leaving the night before).  It worked the following day though.

Well, the circus has left town.  If you go to LO you get this note from Bryan:

Thanks again.
I'd like to personally thank everyone for all their hard work on LuckyOliver. Over the last couple weeks we've been busy trying to pull something together to keep the web site running. It's been a roller-coaster ride, but unfortunately nothing has been resolved (the response however has been incredible with over 30 legitimate requests). Time is not always your friend.

I'd personally liked to reassure all our wonderful Carnies that their requested payouts will be paid. We thank you again for the opportunity to serve such a creative community.

I wonder if there is a property release for that shot of the Louvre?  Isn't it one of those copyrighted structures like the Eiffel Tower at night?

I sent a note to someone about a site - I think it was this one - that was selling calendars with his photos.  He knew for certaint that several photos did not have ELs, he was going to look into it - and I remember that he did find that this (I think it's likely the same website) was just a distributor and not the calendar publisher.

I think I complained already in this thread about sales dropping off my more than half in May and the main cause for the problem is I haven't fed the beast since April... but I did put up one isolated football player in full uniform.  I've never had a new photo on SS get 0 dls before.   It was approved on Monday morning and by noon it was on page 7 of sports and I think it was page 5 of keywords football player.  Maybe it's just not good, but based on the quality of my previous new uplods the athletes usually sell quite well.  I'm guessing that now not only do you have to upload more often, but need to upload more photos too, so the chances of them coming to your folder are greater?

Skippy's turning the wheel again.  *.  Two more sales I will never collect.

I downloaded one from Perkmeup this week.  I know I paid for it and all, but it feels a little bit like a theft as he will most certainly never receive a cent for it.  (I guess though I'll use it sometime in my blog and not for a real client, so I shouldn't feel too guilty.)

Oh boy, you put my neglected blog in this group?  Well, shucks,  thanks.  But, I still must vote for diaries...

I wonder if they will do anything to their search system to push those earning .25 to the front of searches?  More money in SS's pockets then.

Hey, congrats!  Hopefully it is just the start of a flood of dls for you!  No, that's not the one you would expect to be first is it?  You have some very lovely shots on DT.

Wow, SS is the greatest, I love SS!   Not only have my sales dropped by more than 50% this month, they've given me a fabulous 3 cent raise that doesn't even par with 123!!!

If they knew the raise was going to be so lousy, why did they hype it two months ago?  It would have gone over much better if they would have just said one day "were giving you a 3 cent raise, and even more for top contributors."

Disappointing.  Very disappointing.

Adobe Stock / Re: sales on FT since search engine change?
« on: May 13, 2008, 10:22 »
Just curious: when some leaves some agency where he is going? To be exclusive on IS? NEVER! At least for me.

From FT forum: "... I'm 92% exclusive, over 6500 images in portfolio and 2-5 sales per work day! ....huuuh  realy frustrating. "

That is one more reason not to put all eggs in one basket...

Photographers don't need the exclusive excuse to leave whatever agency.   People can only put up with crap for so long in any relationship before they say good riddance.  What good is this partnership if an agency can't get their act together.  Its just like dating, once the high school boyfriend matures he might be worth giving a second chance after college.   ;D

I've never understood how people rave about FT because I just never ever got sales there, especially after V2...   But things were improving - at least a couple sales a day... then all of a sudden about a week and half ago dry spell.

I thought it must be a glitch - but I guess things must be really bad for everyone when I finally got a small sale a few days back and my rank went from something like 1720 to 1540.  With one sale!

Sure, I can login secure... but I cannot upload.  Timeout errors.  Fatal something errors... darn, I closed that window.  All kinds of code popped up on my screen though..   Guess I'll try another day.

Yes, you are a 100% correct.  But, that's 123 for you.  You have to play a little waiting game with them and split up your submissions.
