Yeah, received that as well. Better they could say that everyone will earn less money. No need to lie to people.
I think not everyone only creators, company will probobly make more :( long time my favorite company now I must change something with my strategies.
Many ,,great sneaky news,, in January.

I guess, will be better to sell stock on own website

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Low pay for videos
« on: December 31, 2024, 13:45 »
You're not alone.  On iStock so far this year (minus December, of course), I've had nearly 4,000 downloads with an average per download commission of between $3 and $4.

I don't see that trend changing in 2025.  If anything, it will probably go down.  Eventually, I probably won't produce stock much anymore--or at least, at the rate I normally produce.  It's just not worth it.

Pond5, on the other hand, still had a more respectable ~$42 per download commission rate, but I get about 80% fewer downloads than iStock.

Its weird, but on pond5 I had only 2 sales. Thats it. Looks like a dead agency to me. A bit sad that istock pays so little for videos.

iStockPhoto.com / Low pay for videos
« on: December 31, 2024, 12:35 »
I was wondering if others who contribute to Getty, are getting low pay for videos as well? I have noticed that a lot of videos are getting sold on iStock, but when I have received the summary for last month, I only earned $20. That's really frustrating. Or maybe is just my portfolio.

I use GoPro 12 with mediamod. Great camera and I do use it to record stock videos too. If you buy osmo, you need to consider a mic as well.

General Stock Discussion / Re: What's the Future of Microstock

Yes, it's brutal how AI is eroding the market for classical photographers.
When I think about it, Yuri Arcurs was earning between 25k and 50k USD with a single photo shoot 15 years ago.

Nowadays, the earnings after costs such as photo equipment, insurance, models, props, etc. are brutally low. If you don't have top 1% skills, it's not worth it anymore.

The same applies to Illustrators, who earned really well back then. There was a time when shutterstock had no subscriptions for vector graphics. The buyers had to pay the full price (20 - 30 USD / download).

So all those who take or create generic motifs will slowly switch to AI.

But this trend won't be limited to the creative industry. With intense competition across other industries, businesses will need to automate processes and leverage AI to boost productivity in order to survive. This shift is inevitable and we can expect to see the outcome in various sectors in the following years.

But let's end on a positive note!
I'd like to wish you and everyone else here a merry christmas and a wonderful start to the new year!

There's an old marketing rule that says, when faced with an oversaturated market, there are two options. You either go up or you go down. (Sell Rolex's or sell copy watches). But don't stay in the middle. Its the middle ground that will be eroded.

Unfortunately, that middle ground is where most stock photographers are, and what you said about the top 1% is so true.  That's why I decided to go to a premium specialty agency and there's room to move there (not that I am top 1% but it has made me into a better photographer this past year). The people who went AI (copy watches ;D) have a good chance as well, but that area is becoming incredibly saturated as well, so only the smartest ones (finding sought-after niches, etc) will survive, I fear.

May I ask what are these premium agencies ? Since you mentioned twice. Just interesting to check.

-Focusing more on videos, including  aerials.
-Grow my YouTube channel, including my new channel forum.
-Hopefully to increase my weekly income, now I make around $10 a week on Adobe, nearly 6k assets. :D
-Spending more time with the family.
-Maybe adding new qualifications to my CV.
-Want to travel more.
-Upgrading my drone, and maybe adding new RF glass next to my EF lenses.

No one has tried or uses this one?  https://www.cmsaccount.com/ CMSaccount

i use it, the russian guy is ok, helps when needed.

I am seriously thinking to build my own stock footage site using that plugin. Ofc if it works. Might get in touch with developer to see what he says.

Well, i have some Ai images on Adobe but i stopped generating them as I dont like it. Theres no joy, I like going out and taking images with my real tools. Also received an email from Freepik saying that they will remove duplicate Ai
Images from contributors, checked my account and I was down with 400 Ai images removed . Wont be surprised if Adobe will follow as well. Cant imagine how many duplicates Adobe will have.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 he is definitely dead

I make exclusively videos, mostly aerial shots of monuments in Rome.
Do you need a special permit to fly a drone in Rome? Or just take out your drone and fly.

Definitely permit and insurance from what I heard from a friend of mine from Italy. Same thing applies in UK

This is a traditional forum, not reddit. I had running SMF forum, didn't like it. I run myself 2 photography forums, but again these features are not really useful in traditional forums.

Hi. I was wondering what sites people are using to generate their Ai images or Videos. something affordable. Cannot justify spending much on Midjourney. Thanks.

I already have upgraded to iPhone 15 Pro Max this year and happy. But hopefully o can upgrade my old 7D M2 to R6 M2 mostly for videos and my YouTube channel.

Have they said anything?

I have over 1000 files waiting for review. Some files already passed 7 months 😂😂😂😂. What a joke. These files already started to make money on other platforms.

Crap agency. They set your images for free without your permission. Then they pay rubbish as well . Cant delete your images within a year. Untrustworthy agency.

Adobe Stock / Re: What's your weekly ranking and how many images?
« on: September 13, 2024, 00:03 »

Thanks, would you say focusing on real photos is a waste of time ? Or doing Ai at the moment is the best option?

This is like asking which camera should I use to get more sales.

You should focus on content and genre, you can have great sales with real photos and ai. Most agencies dont even take ai and still people have sales.

The majority of sales in the industry are real images, not ai. ai is a niche.

Why dont you follow the various newslettersd and blogposts of agencies what they recommend to shoot?

They put a lot of effort and research into these newsletters.

Sadly, most producers never read them. They just sort by downloads where that is possible then try to copy the exact image.

Then complain they are not getting sales.

Look at subjects you understand really well, try to find what is missing. Then shoot that.

And get inspiration from the newsletters. The agencies want to make money, they recommend what people like to buy. They give great tips for styling and current trends too.

Thanks Cobalt, can I send my port link to you for feedback ? I try to diversify, I do have lots of travels and landscape. Some of these images sell, but not making as much as other people do. I guess maybe because I am new.

I believe/am pretty sure your 'lifetime' rank is simply the # of downloads you've had. If you go 'down' - it means other people start selling more than you and change your rank. If you go up, then it means you've sold more (# downloads) relative to other people.

If blv has a "lifetime" ranking of 1540, I'd guess the #'s in front of that were either $100k or $200k, correct? :P

$5 million.

Are you serious? Or... just joking? (I 'spose it could be POSSIBLE to be $5 million, but don't know)... what is the 'real' #?

Do you really expect people will tell you how much money they make when asked?   ;D ;D

Yes. Most do.

Come on, post your number like many of us do here.  This is my week so far.

Wow , congratulations on the numbers. Any tips for newbie ? I do only real photos at the moment.

AI photos are more effcient to mass produce in short amount of time.  But it's already super-saturated.  So, try to find theme with not many available images.  If you go with saturated themes, your images probably won't be seen getting pushed back many pages down.  So, find your own niche and don't try to imitate "bestsellers" too much.  It can be a complete waste of time and disappointment.

Thanks, would you say focusing on real photos is a waste of time ? Or doing Ai at the moment is the best option?

Selling images on different stock sites might not be diversifying, its still in the same category. Selling images on FAA or Etsy would be diversifying and may protect you if stock industry would be outsourced to creators in 3rd world countries who would use AI to create everything and be happy with lower prices

At the moment uploading to FAA, and to Pictorem. And will upload phone images to stock and camera images to print sites. Not sure how good idea is this .
