Language problem persists, no matter what you change at ESP. I'm fed up of trying to upload and to understand all these changes. Going out for a walk.

Set the language to the same you are using to keyword.

What's the big deal about batches?
Pro: you could get the pics showing as from same set.
Con: If you upload a batch which hits the database at a time when best match is penalising new files, you might effectively 'lose' these files forever, and it's not as though we can delete them an reupload them at a more favourable time, as we could before. Many people have historically split batches while uploading for that reason.

(Franky, I'm not getting at you, I see it's what iS is encouraging via ESP.)

Spliting baches improves sales, I tried it both ways and I know.

First is ok, the other four very weak, in concept and execution.

People in UK have their own imperial fantasies, and that's no bad, everyone has the right to have fantasies and to not be able to tell past from present. But UK is smaller and more little today. You'll get trouble with Scotland; you will lose exports and see the pound licking the ground; many financial, industrial services (hundred thousands of jobs) will flee to other countries, mainly Ireland. Actually, Ireland won the lotto yesterday.

Investiment includes ratio quality/price as well.

And time too.

Like the amount of time it takes to fix the blasted things every time you get browser hijacked / lose a driver / turn on to an inexplicable screen of death. Spamware, bloatware and all that crud. Man, that stuff is stubborn to get rid of.

Hours and hours behind a computer but not actually doing any work. All lost revenue and pissed off clients because you are giving your PC CPR instead of getting their paying work out.

That t-shirt arrived white. Was a dull grey with the stains of nicotine, caffeine, blood and tears by the time the last PC was made safe. "Exorcised" with Ubuntu actually, after a browser hijacker automatically routed my 10-year-old from YouTube to a porn site.

With Mac so far it's been one year with three systems. No maintenance. No glitches. No viruses. No failures of any kind that I can think of.

Not sure what you mean, but sorry, my PC laptop have been working flawslessly and smothly, no problems, no lost time, great experience.

Investiment includes ratio quality/price as well. I've been editing video with Sony Vegas without any prblem with a laptop (not Mac) with i5 processor and 8 G RAM that I bought secondhand, paying 220 euros about two years ago.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy seeing huge growth!
« on: June 05, 2016, 18:32 »
"Stocksy has reported another year of impressive growth with gross sales of $7,928,745 million in 2015. That is up 126% from $3.5 million in 2014. The great news for image creators is that Stocksy paid out $4,323,735 in royalties. Thats 55% of gross revenue collected. In addition, because the company is a Co-Op, they were able to pay out an additional $200,000 in dividends to members who sold images during the year." Pickerell.

How many contributors they have? Because, let's say, for a scarce crew of 5.000 contributors that would avergade about 800 $ a year per phographer.

35
I would try to look at things from a different perspective. Only because I've seen both sides, as a contributors as someone who worked for a company that hosted data.

You have 20,000 clips. That's terabytes upon terabytes of data. The way they look at it is that the amount of money it cost to host all your video files are not justified by your monthly earnings, or their cut of those earnings. In some cases, it's better to not have someone as a contributor because they feel like they're losing money on the account.

I know it's tough, but that's how things work. They recommended the title changes because they WANT your files to sell better so they can justify your account. If your files don't sell, they could be losing money on your account due to the cost of storage and bandwidth. It's not a good situation for anyone.

If they "lose money" for hosting "too many" good quality files... it's they who are underperforming. Not surprising, actually I don't know any buyer that uses (or even know) this site.

« on: March 12, 2016, 20:28 »
I'm thinking of * back the crown because sales are so poor and still dropping. The only thing holding me back is that I'm not sure I'd make as much if I added my port to all the other sites as a non-exclusive.

If your sales are dropping like that, after some months, you  probably will do more.

No Christmas card. This is the end.

Haven't noticed any big change from the introduction of new sub/credit plans, maybe a 10-15% less or so. Introduction of regular subs was far worse. Of course, credits sales are a pittance compared with what they once were.

And today is very slow, but, then again, today is a holiday in the USA.

Kelly wasn't as bad as some of you hint. Din't have good communication skills, that's true. I think he left istock because he couldn't run it in  his way.

Off Topic / Re: Terrorist attack in Paris 140 dead
« on: November 20, 2015, 13:47 »
Clearly, some people need a "safe space" where they wont risk being exposed to opinions that are different or challenge them.

ER is a troll from day one. Just wants to cause the thread to be closeed so he doesn't have to let us speak freedom. In his own way he is a forum terrorist throwing bombs into our discussions to disrupt.

If the French were armed like the American's, those terrorists with guns would have fired a few shots and been silenced by the power of the people. Freedom rings and protects us against these people. That's why they take advantage of France or kill their own kind in their countries. Corrupt power from a small group of misguided religious fanatics, makes the good ones look bad. But the good have no weapons to defend, so they get murdered in homelands.

Yes? An so, why every time some armed nut goes in a a murder spree at a school --Columbine style-- nobody is able to stop him? Not once, never.

There always seems to be that very large gap between what these agency people say they're looking for, vs. what they actually want.

Maybe it's one of those "they will know it when they see it."  :)

Frederic Raphael, talking  about Stanley Kubrick, summed it better: "You dont know exactly what he wants, but you know he wants he doesnt know what and hopes you can supply it"

42
Shutterstock was the downfall to stock with their ridiculous 25 and 39 cent payouts for subscriptions!
It is my opinion they ruined the stock industry for everyone!  All of you that submit there deserve what they pay!

Nope, Getty was the downfall of the stock industry. By paying such low percentages to contributors they left the door open to competitors to sell licenses for much less while still compensating contributors, allowing them to outweigh their lower prices with much higher volume. So I guess more generally excessive greed is to blame.

At least istock tried very hard to increase prices (wich, btw, was heavily criticised here by some people). The only increase in prices that I remember from SS is when they decided to give 25 instead of 30 images per day with the subscripcion.

43
Too many sites.... the fight to attract buyers at any price is almost over, no recurses left. Next winner and next number one microstock site will the one wich understands the need to attract the best image-makers, and better if they can have lots of exclussive stuff (not necessarily exclusive photographers)

44
Anyone knows how to ignore all threads started by a particular user?

Why ignore? It's quite fun, harmless entertaintment.

45
In other words, you were one of the first to give a new place a shot, and by uploading your work there you actually gave a new business something to sell. They repaid you for your support by deleting your images without notice, even though they were still selling.

I think these places forget that many of us are not only their suppliers, but their customers, too. And word gets around.

I agree.  I think turning your back on your original supporters does not make for very good community relations.  I think the success they are having with their software may be blinding them to the fact it still needs content to use.  Sorry, JoAnne.

Well said, Sean ( a + wasn't enough)

That's true. It is a sustainability problem. Most of my exclusive friends andt acquitances at istock, some of them really amazing photographers, are stopping uploads because lack of budget to produce.

Average salary in Poland is less than 1.000/dollars month. And possibly, some of these 12 workers work part time or by the hour. Just my guess.

My RPD at istock, including subs it's about 4.7 dollars/image.

Seems this is an averaged value rather than the lowest value...

Of course. RPD is always an averaged value, not the lowest or the highest. That's it's very nature. Lowest is 0.75, highest, if you count Els, 160.

For example asking why you didn't review IStock's site speed?

Why you didn't mention IStock gives the lowest flat rate return for subs out there?

Why you didn't mention IStock now has the lowest RPD in the industry?

.

My RPD at istock, including subs it's about 4.7 dollars/image. Certainly, this can change with the new subcriptions plans , or with any pf the frequent changes they do. And RPD it's no so important, diminishing sales is.
But if 4.7 is the lowest RPD in the micro industry, things are no so bad. I supposse yours at SS or anywhere is higher?
