By the way s that library even expanding?

I'd guess it does. Right now I can see 1661 pages of results for the Unlimited Library and 14134 pages for the Marketplace. We can monitor the numbers to see the dynamics.

Same here. Plenty of sales in September. October - no sales and one refund.

I need to correct myself. I was starting to worry that I still don't have a single sale, looked closer and noticed that the time frame on the finance page was set to display results for September only. After adjusting it I can see that I am having regular sales in October as well.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is Shutterstock for real???

I can totally understand Rose Tinted Glasses. That was one of the reasons I have stopped uploading photos and switched to videos instead.

30
I contacted them about refund and here is their response: "Taking a look at the history, it appears the customer did not understand the process of purchasing clips, so we felt it was right to refund the purchase. The clip was not downloaded we track that and we dont allow refunds for any clips that have been downloaded. "

I am not surprised. They have been on autopilot far too long.

It's my first month, but it looks promising. Earnings are comparable to about 3-4 days at Shutterstock so far (videos only).

These are sales through their Premier offering http://info.shutterstock.com/premier-video/
I got two HD sales for $58 and $104 today as well.

The next step should be to let European contributors get paid in euros rather than forcing you to stay in dollars just because you clicked the wrong link years ago. Grrrrr

I would prefer if they finally start paying everyone a fair royalty percentage of a sale regardless of currency. I have no desire to sponsor Adobe and European contributors.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve price update
« on: August 15, 2015, 03:07 »
Wow. Are you sure? Since when do they offer 20%?

37
After reading all this I'm glad I didn't make a deal with them earlier. 30% royalty and executive experience at istock/getty, veer and fotolia all seemed like red flags. But if not for this move I wouldn't learn about Videoblocks and their 100% royalty offer, which is funny because surely that was not on the list of things Dissolve wanted to accomplish.

Well...while SS is actually pushing for 4K sales, the competitor P5 is just bragging about their huge collection without any plan how to monetize that.  :o

There are 4K sales at Pond5, isn't that monetizing?  ???

39
It's an average month for me at P5. A little slower then the spring months, but that's expected.

Then why is SS lowering the price? And on pond5 you can set your price to anything you like anyway, or are you only selling 4k on SS?

I fully agree if what you have is the right thing for customers with large budgets, you can charge more, but wouldn't it be better to keep it at pond5 with a 500 dollar price tag or more?

300 was too cheap for professional production costs, so for 200 you should proably pull it and move it elsewhere.

I would guess they need better growth numbers to impress the Wall Street.

I tend to match my prices at SS and P5. I'm afraid not many customers would want to spurge $500 on a clip if they can get it for $199. At the moment Shutterstock is my best earner and I can't afford to quit it. But this move sure made my think about diversifying my revenue base.

Only those who don't have 4K sales are happy. They think they need to lower the price to attract sales. Although it might be true to some degree I doubt it. Customers tend to choose what's popular. That is not going to change. Just the amount they pay. And 4K is still quite a niche product. Those who need 4K have proper budgets and are not that price sensitive.

42
What I really want is for SS to decommoditize their collection, higher prices for higher quality content.

I don't care how they do it, I don't care if Adobe or another agency does it. But whoever does it and manages to keep a decent amount of sales volume and reasonable royalty they can have all my best work exclusively.

How would you define "higher quality"?

There are some approaches.
- By the number of sales (Fotolia, Dreamstime)
- On a case by case basis (Vetta)
- Let us pick the prices we want to sell for (Pond5, Fotolia to a limited extent)

1.5 times lower is -150 dollar

$150 is two times lower.

300/2=150
300/1.5 = 200

hopefully 4K will start to sell

It has been selling alright for me.

I have to say I am disappointed and discouraged by this price change. This will devalue the whole 4K market. I know that Shutterstock price is often used as a guide in setting prices by other agencies and artists, myself included. And it just became 1.5 times lower overnight.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 launches The Public Domain Project

Couldn't agree more!   Who said we want you to advertise us individually?  Johnathan,  don't insult our intelligence with such a silly comment.

We want you to advertise your paid content that you built your site with, instead of spending all the advertising budget you got from OUR content promoting FREE content that undercuts our business.

Are you still confused?  If you are, you might need medical help.

But they do. I often see Pond5 ads banners on Facebook with my own clips in them. Although it's not because they decided to promote my portfolio. It's happening because I've clicked on those particular clips on the Pond5 website earlier, so the system assumed I am a potential buyer.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I would first ask them what rights do they need. Then decide on the price tag appropriate for these rights.

I guess it's a numbers game for VideoFort and Shutterstock.

One release per model is all they need really. That is the key Shutterstock uses to show "Same Model | See All" underneath a picture. If you upload multiple releases per model customers wouldn't be able to get to all photos of the same model with one click.
