This is so crazy, now I can't tell you the future but as of now you stand a better chance of dying of heart disease, car accident, weather related injuries, cancer and the list goes on. This is still a very minor virus at this point, you still have more to fear from the flu!!

minor virus?

7% mortality...is minor? good luck

What's your source for that figure?
"What is the mortality rate of the new coronavirus?

It is probably about or a bit less than 1%. Much higher figures have been flying about, but the chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, is one of those who believes it will prove to be 1% or lower. The World Health Organizations director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, talked of 3.4%, but his figure was calculated by dividing the number of deaths by the number of officially confirmed cases. We know there are many more mild cases that do not get to hospital and are not being counted, which would bring the mortality rate significantly down.

Deaths are highest in the elderly, with very low rates among younger people, although medical staff who treat patients and get exposed to a lot of virus are thought to be more at risk. But even among the over-80s, 90% will recover."

italy where i live

7500 infecte 500 death,....near 10 %...

They seem to be looking into why the death rate in Italy is so high: seems you have an aging population, but so do many other countries (e.g. us). 1% or 50% is no consolation if someone you know has died, I know.

Some more fact(?)-checking:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/10/can-face-mask-stop-coronavirus-covid-19-facts-checked

aging for sure but the problem is we didn't shut down everything like china the first week of virus....nsame error are doing all country included usa....next week will be the turn of usa to have thousand of people infected.

flu hot millions of people with mortality near 0,05 % probably less...is not comparable at all..if in china didn't book all life and close people at home they would have probably millions of cars with hundreds thousand death...there are people of 40 years treated in intensive therapy in italy with artificial respiratory....

the big problem is not death toll...the problem is that normal flu is times less strong than this...most people even younger don't die but most needs treatment like artificial respiratory machine and intense therapyhy...is the flu spreads like a pandemic simply there will be too people that simply couldn't be saved because lack of intensive therapy bed in hospital...in italy already is clear that in case the situation will deteriorate old people will be sacrificed for younger, is not official but there will be nothing to do cause simply there will be no bed no respiratory machine bo anesthetist medic able to take care of all the people...that' why we cannot more go out of home....because is not about now is the fear to have millions of cases in 2 months, and the seath toll % will rise up because there will be no chance to hospitalize all the cases.

making some graphic  image changing flag to show different country, they keep refusing all but one for similar content....unbielevable,...they accept crap over crap then refuse there images with great potential....they don't have a clue what they are aiming at...

looks this guy portfolio i spotted in ss forum...te guy who claims one ann expert uploading more crap and crap to reach 10000

https://www.shutterstock.com/da/g/Grossinger?sort=newest

this is an offense to me and author who spend time....people talk about past times, well in past times no even a single files of this 10000 bull...it would have minimally accepted....and they refuse files for similar content because idiot ai spot similar pixel but not the general meaning of a photo...i hope they go bankrupt int a bunch of year..

just wondering how professional male and female models (or whatever)
should have less rights than a fotographer,
do some professions (or whatever) have less rights than others in russia and ukraine?

was offtopic, sorry,

it would be nice shutterstock sensitive use opt in out Contributor Operations Team
could leave some more clarification here or anywhere on this move.

i cant' see another reason because they risk lose thousand millions images if it's like many here are stating.i doubt

in my opinion this is insane from ss...for me they did this just to clean most of database...especially those from western world country contributor where legal apply...in eastern world russia ukraine and serbia for example ., nobody will ever care if a model make a problem about the usage of an image, the court will laugh at it, and probably any model will ever consider a problem....they want an agency made only by russian contributor...maybe is that why in their article they use only russian contributors images:),,., even if their portfolio is boring as hell. consider i have 99% of images with model from those country  i will not touch an image but i understand th doubts of those using model friend or from country where laws is something serious.

bah for me really you are making something so big actually is not...losing thousand of dollar for fears one image is sold as sensitive use,, considering that model will probably never know about it..

it seems some dont realise the scope of the issue.

-from now its YOU and not ss nor the customer that bears the consequences

-you warrant that content fit to ss guidelines

ss provided the solution:
but if you wish to make your content unavailable for download, you can delete single images
from your portfolio by using your Catalog Manager.
(should be the reason for unlimited delete update)

lets assume your content gets used for the next president campain...
or mental impairment billboard worldwide ..

then you are done my friend

that ss will shut down your portfolio first step at a glance (as one could read here)
will be your SMALLEST problem, for shure

even if you win the case you WILL KNOW what you ve been going through afterwards..

thats why you should move to other country if you shoot model and stock...do you think russian producer care a dime of this?
anyway  i doubt what you said...ss didn't let us step down from sensitive usage..they are in the wrong side changing the termite release were accepted...it's a case that every court will see as ss fault not photographer....the send jus t an email, i have not received at all for example, didn't leave any option to photographer.. probably only amateur or friend will be upset, doubt a stock model will. you are free to cancel all your portfolio i won't . and in case it will be ss to lose.

If you work with professional models then you know the game.
you declare the included usage first step.

Could you enlighten the readers please
what a PROFESSIONAL model charges per half day whith these terms covered?

i only shoot in country like russia ukraine where models don't care a dime of this and take 50 to 100 dollar half day..like all other contributors from this country...i stopped using model in western world country where cost are skyrocketing and profit falling down...i repeat ss accepted a release with clearly the terms well defined the change all and that's their problemm....not mine. i bet what you want that a court will sue ss not me..
if this is how you said ss should practically clean the database of all models foto, and even photographer should cancel their account...i doubt they did this with this purpose.
personally all model i have ever used never asked me clarification of model release terms and all...thye just signed.

Jonbull I think you cannot claim damages or sue them as long as they informed you on the new contract changes and image uses. Perhaps I am wrong.

Here is  sample that I think might can sue the image users advertising a dating site. Original image from Pinterest (i think).

bah for me really you are making something so big actually is not...losing thousand of dollar for fears one image is sold as sensitive use,, considering that model will probably never know about it...bah.

I fully agree on most posts with you jonbull but not in this one.
What if I steal someone's photos from Flickr and make some pennies profit, perhaps he/she will probably never know about it.

When a model, even a family member signs, it is a contract between the content creator and the model.
If the terms change, the model must be aware and approve. Or delete content.

The real question is, does this sensitive use apply from now on or also on past sales?

maybe is good..i will not cancel anything...if something happens and they want damages i will contact ss and sue it...because it-s clear that in this case they are completely wrong...they have right rot change contract ok but i doubt they have the right to create problems to models after they accepted a release that clearly states defamatory and sensitive usage is not allowed...they are selling those images...they changed contract note...any court will never sue the photographer, there is no way. so they will take the pain of this not me.

in my model release there is written clearly all content but pornography and defamatory, so the sensitive option in the ss email don't bother me, and i'm sure they won't bother any professional model who shoot stock, who know their content will be used in any way, and most fo them will not be pissed off to be featured on a tobacco ads for example, different is for top notch model or modelcfor commissioned work....the biog problem arise when u use amateur model , friend  or people who don't have any experience.

46
in my opinion going non exclusive as a simple problem..especially in ss you begin from scratch and good luck...new files, even if great sells much much less than older, everybody is selling mostly old files who are high in ranks, with the seldom rare new files selling...so if you upload all files in a batch, you probably won't sell a lot for ling time, till some files reach a good position in ranking, who probably you have in stock...in addiction apart adobe red is near 0,7 per cent..

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock vs Adobe Stock
« on: February 28, 2020, 13:21 »
At AS my subs are mostly 0.99 these days with lowest 0.38 ($0.41) so always better then the $0.38 (0.35) subs at SS. Sales volume is still lacking though and doesn't keep me motivated enough to continue.

SS is garbage these days. "Controlled earnings" are the two words that come up in my mind every time I look at my stats. They also seem to prefer a certain group of contributors which makes them almost discriminating but then they do as they please. Like many others I also think it is inevitable that AS will take over the throne in the near future.

In the end it doesn't matter anymore who's better, for us it's a no-win situation anyway  :-\

1,35 rpd in adobe  vs 0,70 ss from beginning of year....ss sales much more but adobe is recovering, also much less files in adobe.

48
Anyway check ss site... 311 million images 1560000 and coin uploaded this week
... its only contriboutor who use this service who stopped uploading, probably they are high end or prpfessional who shoot less to cut cost and shoot less cause new file have nargibal inpacr... in general contribouto in ss are uploading more... garbage but more of it.

49
That is true, that this sample does not represent the industry as a whole. It only focuses on a set of contributors. The nice thing is that the data compares the same contributors both in January 2020 as in January 2019. So instead of saying everybody is uploading more (there might be new photographers joining the market), this data analysis focuses on the same people and whether they upload more or not. By the way, this sample uploaded about 730,000 files in January 2019 and about 420,000 in January 2020. I believe this change is too large to be a random chance. There must be a business decision behind.

it would be nice to see the % of uploading for country...i suspect the bulk of upload in micro comes from less rich country like ukraine serbia thiland indisa...while in most western country the number upload has fall down completely due to the fact that cost of living is so high to due micro stock as profession...while odin country where pid is low and pro capita is less than 8k dollar year is still a great job.

50
considering that stock performer is more a service for professional and high end producer...it-s clear that new upload dnt- see enough to create the wish to upload...it-s the big problem now...or agency eliminate bestseller and top performer and use only new and maybe another category as chosen by staff or similar, so customer are forced to look through new images or nobody soon will upload....the new upload in most cases come from new contributor or spammers.
agency should beogn clearing database and add a system that give recognition to those that work hard, not those that uploaded then years ago and still earn a lot due to the database biased towards bestseller....if not they will soon lose ons of customer who will directly go to unsplash or other free site.
