An update, incase anybody cares :P

My question:
Quote
Does this mean that a customer, say Company ABC, buys an image from Foap, they are allowed to then relicense the image to Company XYZ so that Company XYZ can do what ever they want with the image?

Their response:

Thank you for your reply. No, it's not that the Company XYZ can use the photos for whatever they want. But if the Company ABC is working with marketing for Company XYZ, Company XYZ may also use the photo for their use, but not for example to sell the photo. Do you understand what i mean? Please let me know if you have any more questions. :)

123RF / What's the best uploading method for 123RF?
« on: April 30, 2013, 20:34 »
I'm new to 123RF, and it appears that they have, by far, the worst uploading/editing process I've encountered.

I only upload a few images at a time, so I'm not too interested in the CSV import.

Here are the problems I'm having:
1.) There's no useful ID number next to the image as I edit the metadata.  "Stephenkirsh123456" isn't searchable on their website, so I don'tk now why they use that.
2.) Once done editing the metadata, clicking "Save" doesn't change the status of the images.  They were "Pending" before, and they remain "Pending."  There's nothing to tell me the image was submitted.
3.) There's no easy way to add releases to images individually.  The system they use is so terrible, I feel like I have to be doing it wrong.
4.) I don't get any notifications, of any kind, when images are approved/rejected.

Do you guys have any tips for solving these issues?

Thanks!

When inquiring about the details of their license, specifically the "right to sub-license," this is their response:

As a webbagency you can buy a photo and use for brand that you work with. You cannot let the brand use the photo, but you can use the photo. And if a company buys a photo they have the right to let journalists use the photo if writing about them.

Kindly,

Madelen

It sounds like they're simply allowing the use of the image with respect to marketing or portfolio use for the client.

So if Company ABC buys an image and makes an ad, they're then allowed to use a copy of that ad for editorial purposes, such as displaying their previous work.

I'll try and get more details out of them.

I think i've uploaded maybe 3 images, they take ages and then stall. that was months ago. just couldn't be bothered. what's the payment per sale?

What part took forever?  It's all crowd sourced and instant.

It's hit n miss.

Pond5 / Re: Photo Pricing for Pond5

Using those very same download numbers, I was looking at commonly downloaded images and sorted by "most downloaded."  The vast majority of images on Pond5 have less than 3 sales; I don't think people are buying images on Pond5 yet.

Even though Pond5 is my #2 agency (in terms of total revenue), I've only had two image sales on Pond5 so far.

thanks!

Off to youtube for some how-tos, I guess :)

New Sites - General / Time for a FOAP subforum
« on: April 14, 2013, 13:49 »
Is it time for a FOAP sub forum in the "New Sites / Low Earners" area?

I've about 150 photos uploaded with about 100 of them being "real" stock images compared to random crap photos I've taken on my iPhone.  I've two sales so far.

I'm holding off uploading any more due to this part of their license that worries/confuses me:

Quote
"To Foap. a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable license (with right to sub-license) to use, reproduce, distribute and display Content within the scope of the various functionalities of Foap Market from time to time and within the business of Foap, including without limitation promoting Foap Market or redistributing Foap Market in any media formats and through any media channels."

Is that a setting I can adjust in Final Cut or in Compressor?

35
Bump?

Was this a stupid question? :(

Modviz;

My definition of "better" for my own content is better composition/subject.  All of my content is 720p.

Most of my files started at $20/clip and I increased prices on content that had higher sales (at Pond5 & SS/iStock).  Is it optimum?  I'm not sure yet.  I've only been getting serious for a few months now.

As a highly analytical person, I feel ALL agencies could greatly improve their analytics.  As a sales person at my company (an RM agency), I've discovered a great deal by applying some basic analytical views to our giant database of info.

I sell camera footage (which is low quality, per my peers) on P5, iStock & SS.  Pond 5 makes up at least 50% of my video sales.

Total income from all 3 since 2009 (which includes stills) is roughly split about 33% at each.  Overall income is down from my peak in 2010, but I also haven't created new content since that year.

To me, Pond5 is so simple for uploading, that it should be on anybody's upload list for when they get spare time.  Most of my files are priced at $15-20 for 720 since my content isn't of that good quality.  My better files are priced $35-$50.

Hello there! My name is Ryan and I'd like to introduce myself to you. I'm here to answer a lot of your questions and be your liaison to the the Pond5 team.

Currently our queue is huge. We have been getting more and more submissions every day, and our staff are working as hard as they can to get the queue down from a month or more to around a week or two. We appreciate your patience while we work our butts off to approve your clips!

As far as your bio page, it is a site indexing issue. We index the site as often as we can, so your files and bios and everything will be updated soon. We are working on a button that will allow you to update your own information as we speak, so stick around for that to be rolled out soon!

Thanks so much for your feedback and for your questions, we appreciate it very much! Let me know if you have any more questions, I'm happy to help!

Hi all,

I'm getting back into shooting after a long hiatus.  I used to cut things together with iMove, but since I'll be getting more serious with things I decided to go for FCP X.

What export settings for the files do you guys recommend to ensure best compatibility across the different stock agencies?

Thanks!
