I've tried to make mine One DL, One Use, but don't know what to call it.

I have setup the same type of license and am calling it a "Single Use" license.  I know that a few other Symbiostockers are doing the same sort of license.

I never liked the fact that an RF license gives someone unlimited use of an image for as many projects as they like.  It just doesn't seem fair that a company can buy your image and use if for an ad campaign (which they make money from) and then use it again and again on additional ad campaigns (which they again make money from).  If they are making lots of money off of our images, then I only think it is fair that they can spend a few dollars each time that they want to use it.

You log in with your Symbiostock forum credentials (a good shield for automated wiki-spammers too)!

I tried to login with my forum credentials and it wouldn't let me in.

EDIT: Tried it again about a half hour later on a different computer and it worked this time.

Only 150 or 170? I thought the list had 200+ something sites in the network?

There are currently 158 sites in the Symbiostock network and it is gaining momentum.

You can see how many sites there are at the bottom of the following URLs:

Computer Hardware / Re: Looking for a new backup system (raid1?)
« on: November 01, 2013, 05:03 »
I'm been in the IT industry for decades, and I would never get a RAID system for personal use for the simple reason that if the controller board fails then you will probably lose everything on the drives.  RAID is useless without a controller board and finding one that exactly matches the system that you have is almost impossible.  While having a controller board fail is not too likely, I still wouldn't want to take the risk.

RAID systems are also usually more expensive.

I would much rather just buy two drives and synchronize them with cheap software (such as SyncBack, etc).  Basically, everything that you save on one drive will then get copied to another drive.  If you lose one drive, you just buy another one and copy the files from the other drive and start the synchronization process all over again.

I wouldn't suggest BlueHost (and am surprised that it is still the recommended web host).  Many of the issues that I see on the forums are from people that use BlueHost.

I use GoDaddy and haven't had an issue with them from day one.

Check the images you want to edit, choose Edit from the pull-down menu (it is under Bulk Actions), and then click the Apply button.

33
I guarantee that the incompatibility is being caused by something Bluehost did in the background.

With all of the issues that are cropping up related to BlueHost, I'm surprised that it is still the recommended host for Symbiostock.

Symbiostock / Re: are categories necessary?
« on: October 07, 2013, 11:07 »
Categories are not necessary, but they will increase SEO slightly (since each category creates a new page that Google indexes).

You can also do them at a later time if you choose.

Finally, after 5 months, I had my first sale last October 4, in fact two sales in one day.

Congrats.

I have a Premier account and there are no monthly monthly charges.

I believe that you can't use a Personal account because they don't allow the use of debit or credit cards.

See here for details:

I used credit and debit cards with my personal account all the time. Maybe they have just recently changed that? As of a couple of months ago i was using them.

I meant that a Personal account can't accept funds from others that use credit or debit cards.  You can use credit or debit cards to send funds with any account.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 500PX is it worth uploading?
« on: October 02, 2013, 14:36 »
At first, I actually thought that you were asking if it would be worth uploading an image that was 500 pixels on the long side to the stock agencies!

 ;D

Symbiostock - General / Re: Customize symbiostaock theme
« on: October 02, 2013, 06:59 »
You can customize the main theme, but every time you upgrade the theme, your custom edits will disappear.

If you put the edits in the child theme, that wont happen.

On the other side of the argument, if you put custom edits in a child theme and that file or function are modified in the parent theme, then the changes won't take effect.

40
However I think it might be due to restrictions on Godaddy....?

I'm on GoDaddy and don't have any issues with email.

What version of PHP is your website using?

Symbiostock - General / Re: Woohoo... first real SymbioStock sale.
« on: September 14, 2013, 06:19 »
I woke up yesterday morning and found that I had my first sale last night (a medium size, which in my case is 1600x1200, for $13.99):

It was a great way to start the day!

The funny thing about this sale is that I originally wasn't going to create a pink sky version.  I figured that nobody would ever buy a version with a pink sky.  But over the years, one of the things that I have learned is that you never know what a customer needs.  As long as the image has the quality, it has the potential to sell.  Some of my top-selling images are images that I never imagined would have sold.

Thanks to Leo and everyone else that helped out on this wonderful project.

Looking forward to many more sales.

Symbiostock - Hosting / Re: godaddy hosting
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:50 »
I (along with a bunch of others) use GoDaddy (w/ Linux O/S) for my Symbiostock website and have had no major issues.

There is another thread that lists which web hosting service people have used.  You should look for that thread and read it.

Also, the Symbiostock forums have basically moved to Symbiostock.org, so you should probably post there from now on.

We've put in the modern bootstrap 3, and along with many other perks the whole theme is 100% responsive, no questions asked.

What does "100% responsive" mean and how does that differ from what we currently have?

Make sure the free plan offers PHP 5 and a MySQL database.

... and that PHP has the ImageMagick module installed.

Symbiostock - General / Re: updraft
« on: September 06, 2013, 09:52 »
I investigated updraft, but last night i downloaded the symbiostock_rf_content folder and it took less than an hour. 601 images, about 2 gb. My total site is about 3 gb. I think i will stay with this for awhile.
The download part the least of my worries (20GB Symbiostock site). The upload will be brutal.

But it will be a lot less brutal than starting from scratch!  ;)

47
Right now i share with 14 other sites (and that could likely increase).

This site shows that you share a server with 2,926 other sites:

Not sure how I am supposed to vote, since GoDaddy has a proprietary version of cPanel that they call "Control Panel".

49
I think that you will find most Symbiostockers are using shared hosting (especially this early in the game).

50
Does this procedure copy files to another directory on the server, or to your local computer? Or can you send it also to some cloud drive?

It creates a database dump in a directory of your choice on your web host.

It just creates a database dump (backup) in the folder where the script is being executed.

It actually puts the dump in a directory of your choice (specified by DUMPPATH).
