i don't think this applies to all agencies,it'd take too much time for a reviewer to flag what is outstanding or not...other parameters may be flagged by AI i guess...

You probably did not know, but adobe takes into its free collection only the video that has not been sold even once in the last year.
While they did say that, I had videos eligible for nomination that had 0, 1 and 2 sales.
me too...even videos that had 3 sales and videos uploaded within 6 months that we can consider brand new videos with a good chance to have a sale soon... I think that adobe wants the free collection to be appealing to the viewer that's why the choose only good staff....

i've been shooting drone since 7 years and i can say that it was worth it...nowdays with low commission and subscription to make up the expenses you need to focus on what to shot because nature drone shot is an oversaturated niche...

I do not anticipate more selections being made this round.
Thank you,
Mat Hayward
Judging by the number that you have chosen, you will have a very small collection. You started on a grand scale, but in the end everything was blown away to a minuscule. Probably the price of 8 dollars is expensive for you. That's why I wrote, reduce the price to 4-5 dollars. According to the photo there were several rounds, at least 3.
even if you beg for money likely your content isn't good enough even for the free collection...we din't sell bread where the cheapest sells, put your heart at rest...

.. then it blows my mind to see that Jeff Whyte sold static video of building exterior with passing cars for few hundreds...
it happens...for sure it doesn't happen if you submit to istock which has a ridicolous rpd of 2/3$ for video...

I look forward to finding out how many of your clips get selected
not so many seeing the desperate need of giving away his clips almost for free...adobe nominates only valuable clips seeing what they choose from my port...i mean they could choose unsold clips with low value just to fill the collection, they don't....

Free "slag" is very likely be preferred by many "buyers" as an alternative to paid quality stuff. Free distorts the market and competition, because free is not used, but is abused
Your statement is very controversial and reflects only your opinion. You have no evidence or calculations.
"Slag" at Adobe may be selling well at other agencies.
No one is forcing you to participate in this program. The more people who opt out, the more my videos will end up in collections and the more money I'll get.
 Very short-sighted.
Here are a few examples from my eligible clips: 1. AS: 0 sale - Total earnings across all agencies: $199 2. AS: 1 sale - Total earnings across all agencies: $391 3. AS: 1 sale - Total earnings across all agencies: $562.55 3. AS: 1 sale - Total earnings across all agencies: $143.91 4. AS: 1 sale - Total earnings across all agencies: $371 .... and more
So, if I allow these clips to be given away for free, in exchange for 8 bucks, I'm not only shooting myself in the foot, but I may also shoot you in the foot if we both cover the same topics.
I can't comment with regards to footage but the images I nominated for the free collection had zero impact on how they performed at other agencies.
I can only presume this comes down to the fact that most people who acquire the images do so from their companies Adobe account. They are not paying for them directly for them themselves and therefore they value their time more which means they won't shop around because A) takes too long and B) they don't have the ability to create / setup a second subscription account with another agency
Sales volume and $ for me has increased significantly since the introduction off the free images. My weekly ranking still holds the same 150-800 depending on the time of year. The only logically explanation is they have gained more customers. This may well be at the expense of other agencies but as they are my No1 agency in terms of $ I don't have any concerns there either. The drop in $ at Shutterstock per month is more to do with their pricing structure than that of AS. Incidentally, they routinely license footage at $0.38 these days.
I feel there is no right or wrong answer here and each person needs to decide for themselves But I can say from experience, the free images at AS still perform at other agencies. That doesn't guarantee footage won't suffer but it also makes me think there is also a very good chance that it will continue to do well (or as well as it has done).
That said, I do feel the $ for the free footage is a little on the low side but I can see why given the the sub price at AS and especially at SS.
if it was like you described it,what would be the abobe benefits to create a free collection if buyers keep on buying those image on other agencies?? adobe has the data, their goal is to gain new buyers and it brings to less buyers that buy elsewhere..this is math... btw video is very different from photo...it's not oversaturated like photo and hasn't many free sites like unsplash yet...

i do only video and i can say ss despite subs sales has higher rpd thatn adobe...at ss i often have premium sales that goes from 50$ to 300$ (my earning) while on adobe i have few rugular sales and a lot of subs sales at 2/5 $ since subs came in...i think adobe with the new free collection will be the agency that will skew the market in 2023...

Zero Talent, Adobe only nominates what hasn't sold in the last 12 months, i.e. slag. I'm not talking about subscription stocks, which, following your logic, should have bankrupted Adobe a long time ago.
it means that adobe nomitates even files that have 0 sales in the laste 4/5/3/6 months old..those are actually brand new files...they even nominated files with 2 sales in my case...

Here, some write about prices, that free undermines the market. Guys, there are already a lot of sites with cheap subscriptions, and it hasn't changed the market much yet.
it hasn't change the market?? have you been doing stock since yesterday??what do you think all 2/3$ sales come from?
The financial crisis due to the coronavirus and the russian attack on Ukraine.
no..2/3 $ sales come to compete with subscription model...actually coronavirus increased the need for stock because of procutions stopped working and the travel ban..

The math here is simple. The more videos that are initially nominated, the more videos will be included in the free collection and the more money will be transferred to you.
Unbelievable. Quite the same as selling clip in standard market. Great math.
Did you understand that footages chosen in the free collection won't sell anymore on adobe and probably way less on other sites too??
No, he doesn't understand; at the third page of thread, because he doesn't want to waste time reading the first one. He doesn't understand that proposal is to sell the clip to Adobe for one year
or maybe he hasn't sold a single clip on adobe and this is the only way to make some profit...in this way it makes sense...

Only my thoughts: I'm not a "company", but I know that sometimes it's hard for a company to understand some little human reasoning :-)
I dont understand at all how they choose videos from the authors portfolio, on what basis. I don't care if my videos sold in the last 12 months or not, but they chose very few videos from me, they chose a monotonous video, 70% of the same story. I personally would like all my videos to be featured in the free collection if I get paid to do so. I don't care if it's $8 or more. Okay, they say they only take what hasn't sold in a year, great, let them take it. But they do not take, but choose very few videos.

Why do the top video people not support a good site together?
The video world is very small and they all know each other.
There must be many smaller agencies who would be thrilled to have their content.
This is the mystery I do not understand. Only 30 million files, most needed content is missing and custom work is very expensive to shoot.
If SS and others only want to offer cheap subs content, then the high end work should go macrostock, just the way it is in photos. The high end photographers upload to smaller high end agencies to make their money. And it still works for so many families.
Video is in a baby stage of their respective market.
I keep repeating myself, if photographers prefer to go high end and get several hundred, sometimes several thousand dollars for photos, why dont the video people do the same?
i don't think video is in baby stage, some content is missing as you say but the most are covered...the issue with video is that the demand is very low compared to photo and the costs to produce videos are higher,so it's becoming less profitable for big contributors to shot videos and gets few $ per download...i don't see any agency to work with that pays high end commission...

Personally, I wouldn't bother submitting images. P5 is best known for clips. Very hit and miss agency for me and VERY miss lately. With just over 3000 clips I've managed 18 sales @ $226.00 total with 3191 views over the past year. The best thing about P5 is you can change/alter the price of your work if they decide to lower the commission which I did a few years back. I don't know if increasing the price of each clip by $5 had a direct effect on sales but the agency is definitely on the decline for me.
with a port of 4500 clips i have about 50 sales per month since 2012...the agency isn't in decline,it takes the right clips to have a sale....price doesn't matter most of time...i price my clips 149/79$....

Thanks for your experience, Visualab. According to that, then you have revenue from sales at Pond5 through GPP and revenue from sales at Adobe directly. I would be interested in a comparison there. Can of course look different for everyone. I think for my own comparison I have to upload my footage to both Pond5 and Adobe. I had also already started, but I wondered in the meantime whether this would be superfluous, because of GPP at Pond5.
when you join gpp program and upload to adobe as well pond5 has a duplicate file checker that avoid duplicate if the same file is already on adobe library...said that sometimes it happens that some files go beyond the control....i have one duplicate file over 4000,and when i sell it from adobe i get 28 euros and when i sell it through gpp i get 19,60$...do your math...

« on: August 11, 2021, 02:41 »
i didn't disable gpp program, btw i upload to adobe by myself...the revenues from gpp program are always 40% of the agency selling price minus pond5 cut...i'm not esclusive at pond5 so i can't help you...
43

pond5 takes its share when you sell through gpp program,so you likely lose money...to me it's better to upload straight to adobe instead....

You could actually extend the argument and say does a customer really need to have an exact specific image or would they just look for the cheapest image that satisfied their needs?
that's point...most of the people here think they are selling white paper...buyers are really picky because not every clip fits their project..composition,light,motion and so on...they have to satisfy their customer and this is more important than save 10$...

Exclusive on pond5 with videos PLUS partner like Adobe, hey, in that way I offer my videos on the both most best agencies and just have to upload ones. [/quote] i would upload to both agencies because if you upload only at pond5 every sales through adobe partnership you lose the pond5 cut...

just a question??why a buyer should buy your clip at "regular" price if this clip has a stamp on it that says that it's included in the membership program??
Because if they're not a member then they'd have to shell out a minimum of $199 to subscribe so they can download it as part of their membership.
ok...that makes sense...

wrong....you can lose regular sales if your clips are available on the membership program which sell your clip at much lower price....
I can't see myself losing anything. But I can see additional income in my bank account. There are two payouts every month. Not just one.
just a question??why a buyer should buy your clip at "regular" price if this clip has a stamp on it that says that it's included in the membership program?? i can understand put some clips(not best seller) in the membership program to have a side income but all the clips it's like to compete against your self...you can have even 2 payouts but if those don't make up for one it's useless...

You can't lose anything by joining this program, you can only earn extra. All videos unlocked for membership are always available to non-members as well.

Pond5 is dead, 460 clips and not one sale in the last two months.
i wouldn't expect any regular sale with only 460 clips...
Have made regular sales on Shutterstock with 50 fewer clips in the port - totaling over $130 during this period where nothing has sold on Pond5 - and that's with a slow month for video sales in June.
you can't compare number of sales of shutterstocl vs pond5....from my experience i sell 1 clip at pond5 every 5 clips at shutterstock.....it goes this way since 11 years ago..nothing changed so far for me...
