I was originally drawn to Stephens posts on MSG because of his interest in aviation. However. I soon discovered that not only where his photos "sharply _done" but his opinions and help in his post "sharply_done" and laced with good old commen sense
A sad loss

General Stock Discussion / Re: What are your goals for 2013?
« on: December 02, 2012, 13:01 »
Since I just turn 86yrs. old, my number one goal is to survive another year.
Also it would be nice if I could continue to fly and take aerial photos.
Making a little more money from my microstock port would be icing on the cake

The only thing you can say for certain about the future-"IT WILL CHANGE". So all you can do- Is try to catch the wave.

Yes that is how it was in the 'good old days".It wasn't your photos- it was who you knew or how good you where at talking some  body in to giving you a fat commission or paying your way to some far off place to take photos. If you weren't part of the "Pro-Club"- you where beatring you head against and unclimbable wall. Well the micro have proved there was some great shooter out there beside the "So called Pros". It has torn down the wall. but to be successful in the new market you still have to take photos that the customer wants or needs. I work in all markets that need aerial photos,be it micro, trad or commission. In the end that is what is inportent-what ever works for you and makes you the most money or makes you happy.

Hi Warren
My camera is a Pentax K10D. I use straight 35mm and 50mm lens at 500 shutter speed if the alt. is 500ft. or less(above ground). My aircraft is equipped with a door i can open in flight so, I don't know about shoot thru the canopy. I would suggest trying to find as flat a spot on the canopy as possible.
Good luck

On the question of quantity or quality -I believe in both. Quantity in the number of photos i shoot- Quality in the  number photos I submit.

You don,t have a spot for me,since you don,t have a 80+ group. While i don,t make all my income from microstock-I do make most of my income from aerial photo+ S.S.

Yes Stepheng 101 friend is right.Once the aircraft is trimmed up, flying with your feet is easy. If the aerial photos are in places with congested aerial traffic , I take along another pilot mainly to watch for traffic.

Hi Stepheng 101
I also take aerial photos. The ones I take for microstock, I take on the way to and from aerial photo assignments or mapping projects. That about the only way i think you can make money selling aerial photos for microstock. As To what aerial photos sell best- I am still learning. As to how many photos it takes, I have heard the figure of 500 to 1000 before you can expect steady sales.Leaf has done some surveys that have some interesting figures. You  can see my photos on DT under jackA. Good Luck!
