General Stock Discussion / Re: Idea: Micropayment Clearing House
« on: October 16, 2009, 13:00 »
More 'practical' to just upload a few more images isn't it?

Yeah. That makes sense. Just need better quality work and have no complaints. -

General Stock Discussion / Idea: Micropayment Clearing House
« on: October 16, 2009, 10:18 »
Ok. This may be not be practical, but an idea borne of frustration when money is short.
For instance, when I have $200 spread over five sites, and can't get a payout at any
for weeks or months. I realize this would not apply to the more successful among us.

Simply put, there should be a central clearing house for sales from all agencies.
Maybe once a week each agency would transfer our present earnings, no matter
how meager to the clearing house. We could then take our earnings in a more
timely manner. Of course there may still be limits set, but I think it would be a
more reasonable way to do it.

Certain images on NASA's site may have been obtained from joint projects
with universities or tech companies.
If you use NASA images or maps, you should give credit in your image description.
Something along the lines of "Map/image courtesy NASA."
Also the NASA image/map should be a small part of your overall work.
Sorry I don't know about the Statue of Liberty.

be something. No way to tell right now.

Software - General / Re: Calendar creator
« on: October 06, 2009, 19:16 »
Does anyone know of a good calendar creator?  Not for big calendars, but those compact ones.  I wanted to create some stuff in Zazzle with compact calendars embedded.  I did find one site who creates in AI, but only versions CS3 and above, and another that generates a PDF, so I can not change font type.

Can the PDF be imported into another program you
can use for changes?

General Stock Discussion / Macworld Article On Microstock
« on: September 26, 2009, 17:43 »
I noticed this Macworld article because photographers are tweeting that it be voted against.
Notice what the buyer (leicaman)  has to say in replies after the article.

Newbie Discussion / Re: 3D Generated Images
« on: September 22, 2009, 10:39 »
If you're doing renders for a website then what you have may work, but I
started on Dreamstime in 2006 and got accepted with 3d renders of 2,304 x 1536
or 3.5MP.

Your renders of 1440 x 1080 are 1.5MP or the size of some LCD monitors.  They
probably should be at least 2000 x 2000 or 4MP for stock sites.

Buyers are looking for images they can use in their own work. Something they
could fit into a brochure, book, greeting card, tv ad or even a billboard.

If you want to submit to stock sites, you have to be thinking of how your work
can fit into such things.
Check out Dreamstime or Shutterstock and see what they are selling. You can use
the search functions to search for 3d work as well and see what is available.

Don't let us discourage you, though. Most of us started out without any idea of what
this is all about.

Deepsees, what site or sites did you want to submit to?
You've never said exactly what you hope to do with your work.

Photo Critique / Re: kindly asking for your opinion! :)
« on: September 15, 2009, 21:07 »
At that size, noise doesn't seem a problem, but I think they are
oversaturated. You usually want the color to snap, but not so
much that fingers, for instance, look reddish. Also, the cup has
a vertical smear, like the camera moved a little.

New Sites - General / Re: Polylooks open in the UK

Signed up, but it turns out since I'm in the USA, I can't upload
because of tax withholding, which they do not do. They do
offer to send an email when the situation changes..

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Please Help with Application. I am at a loss.
« on: September 07, 2009, 17:13 »
Hi, Keith.
Your Shutterstock port looks good, but iStock is tougher
on 3d renderings than photos, in my opinion at least.
I like your work, but iStock for me was harder to get into
than Shutterstock. Maybe some of the others can give
you a better idea from your port.

The original post looks ok as to focus to me. If you have photoshop
you might try this, though it may not be accepted. Also a rock and bottle is removed.

New Sites - General / Re: Clustershot.com
« on: August 25, 2009, 19:19 »
Uploaded a couple of test photos back in May, not a pro account.
Just haven't got back somehow. I like the site, but some sections seem slow.
I think they are in the process of upgrading the system.

Yeah, we are a little slow. This is mainly due to more activity then we expected. We have over 250,000 published photos by over 1500 users. We have new hardware going live this week which should speed things up considerably.

Thanks for replying Clustershot. Hope you do well.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stereo 3D. Any future in Stock?
« on: August 20, 2009, 12:09 »
I think it more likely stock sites would go for hidden or magic images, since
these are printable and could be purchased for newspapers or magazines.
You could have a 2d preview and a link for the "magic" version.

Illustration - General / Re: 0 views in 2 days is it natural
« on: August 20, 2009, 07:22 »
i've just uploaded on StockXpert, dt, and ft...and they all have no views! i have is but i was terminated so i switched to those sites. but i am not familiar with the system. in is, newly uploaded files that are online have views as soon as they are online.

Wouldn't worry too much about it, krayis. Some sites are
spread across a number of servers and take a while to be updated.
I once had a sale on BS with zero views. Go figure:)

Computer Hardware / Re: PC misbehaving
« on: August 07, 2009, 19:27 »
Moonb, As I said before, I am going to take it to the store, I only wanted to have an idea of how bad the problem may be.  A mobo replacement may take a few days.  A power supply a few hours.

Madelaide, it could be anything, including the cpu. Sorry we can't be more help
but please let us know what they find. Good luck.

Interesting that it can boot normally after a time. Almost sounds
as if it's doing some diagnostic before booting, except you would
think the thing would beep or display a message..

Imo, Yay is one of the few sites with some hope of success.
Maybe they'll make it, maybe not, but let's not write it off just yet.

It would seem Newegg's policy for CPUs is replacement only.
Maybe you could call and work out a replacement for the one
you actually need and pay the difference if there is one
since it was never opened.
