The opposite of doom and gloom would probably be unbridled optimism. The term carries an appropriate whiff of self-delusion with it.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all [....] are created equal."
I've seen that somewhere else. Of course it's a ridiculous lie that no sensible person would believe.

My personal evidence is that when this ESP reporting started in Jan I more than doubled to almost tripled my income from about $200 a month to $500-$600 a month with doing NOTHING. This happened only after they transitioned to the new reporting system, so it was quick, not gradual over time. Leads me to believe there either is or was very inaccurate reporting. I bet IS/GETTY would CR_AP their pink panties if their royalty system was audited for the last 10 years.
And my earnings slumped with the introduction of ESP.I have no idea what they are up to, but I don't bother uploading to them any more.

They must pay us more like the old times! This is ridiculous!
What "old" times do you mean?
When I started contributing to iStock twelve years ago, I got 10c for every download. Now I get a lot more.
You're misremembering. By April 2004 the commission at iStock was 10c, 20, and 30c, depending on the size of image downloaded. What was good about those times was that almost anything got downloaded frequently, whereas now even outstanding images may not sell at all. But you knew that...

the only problem with it is that if it is pointed up or down the zoom ring will creep.
That's a pretty big problem for timelapse...
...but I guess a little piece of tape will fix it.
Yeah, that's why I mentioned it. Of course, I've only got one sample of that lens and it was made 40 years ago, others might have a tighter barrel. Tape would be one answer.

On my 50mm that's the only way I HAVEN'T got flickering ... in manual why would the camera change anything at all when your intervalometer triggers? Internal software change or something?
No, every time you take a picture the aperture closes down to f8 (or whatever you set it to) and then it opens back up to fully open (1.8 on your 50 mm perhaps?). The aperture blades are mechanical and do not close down EXACTLY the same every time = flicker. Just look into your lens and you can see it yourself.
That is why the lens twist method is used, to lock the aperture in place.
Old manual focus (and manual aperture) lenses should avoid that problem and are available really cheap. Nikkors seem to be best and almost all will fit to Canon dslrs via an adapter (the 28mm f3.5 has a light baffle that would need removing to avoid fouling the mirror on full frame) There are good Zeiss Jena lenses, too, but you need to be sure your mirror won't clip the back of them if you use full-frame, and they are more likely to get mechanical problems than the Nikkors. If you want a really cheap but good zoom lens there is the Zoom-Nikkor 80-200 mm f/4.5 that can be picked up in "like new" condition for much less than $100. Mine gives excellent images with just a tiny bit of CA on a Canon 6D, the only problem with it is that if it is pointed up or down the zoom ring will creep. For a really good assessment of legacy nikkor lenses check out http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_surv.html

You can make timelapse in Darktable - here's an example from 5 years back http://timelapse-darktable.blogspot.qa/ . Darktable runs on Linux but there is now a Windows version available in embryonic form http://www.darktable.org/2017/08/darktable-for-windows/I think this is quite important, because Darktable is a free alternative to Adobe Lightroom. If you have a friend who's a moderately competent geek you can set up to run both Linux and Windows from the same computer (I've now got the Linux operating system Ubuntu running on the same machine as Windows 10).

Captcha is telling me to use a supported browser (I'm on firefox/linux) to log in. I've never encountered that before and I'm not keen on being told what to do by an anti-robot app.

Not sure what you're up to but it's ONE click for me.
1. 123rf.com
2. I click Earnings.
---
If you want 0 clicks you bookmark the Earnings page.
I've tried navigating directly to the earnings page, using the URL, but it redirects me elsewhere. That used to work for me, but hasn't for some time. ... OK, bookmarking seems to work. Thanks.

Oh dear, that's bad news. It's pretty much the last man standing among the sites I've supplied. I guess we're approaching "game over".

It annoys me that I have to click at least two or three times to see my balance or what has sold on 123. I assume that this is to boost site-traffic figures, either that or its incompetent programming, but it's just wasting time whatever it is.# /rant.

There's always the possibility that they are batch processing sales rather than posting them all one at a time. The data page already says: *Updated approximately every 15 minutes. So the process isn't immediate in any case.

So seems I stock is having an issueeither the July payment. Anyone else having issues? Also at this point are they responsible for any loss that happens due to their lack of payment?
IIRC their contract makes payment to us optional, so any losses from not being paid wouldn't be their problem. But it's been a very, very long time since I read it so it's possible that those are the terms of some other contract.

I like buying a cheap body because I don't think it matters much. The money I save goes on lenses. I do like having different sensor sizes, from full frame to my phone. They all have their uses. I have spent more on camera bodies in the past but it seemed like wasted money.
I can't agree with that. I went from the old Digital Rebel to a Canon 5D to 5d MkII to 6D and each time the new body came with huge improvements over the previous one, among them the introduction of automatic sensor cleaning in the 5DII, improved low-light performance in each newer body, automatic CA correction in the 6D along with GPS and lots of other stuff. The bodies are constantly being improved.

Any aspect ratio is OK, though extremely wide or tall images don't do well. Remember, the buyer may well crop the image to suit themselves so the thing to avoid is a really tight crop on the subject that prevents anybody from adjusting the shape as required.

The main point, I think, is that it is costing a lot of people a lot of money when similar programs are available free. I see now that Gimp and Darktable are available to run on Windows and Mac, too, so you don't need to do the whole linux thing. It's worth giving them a go if you want to save money while staying legal. The interface is quite similar to PS and LR.

Creative cloud cost up 250% in Oz in four years. https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2017/05/creative-cloud-keeps-getting-more-expensive-in-australia/I need a new computer. I guess I'll be using Gimp and Darktable from now on, though switching to Linux involves a nasty learning curve. I didn't mind the one-off cost for CS4 but I'm out of licenses for new machines with that (and who knows how long it will continue to work with Windows?). I've been using Gimp and Darkroom my son installed on a notebook and they're as good for what I want as PS, but the notebook is dying. The way microstock is going, it makes no sense to spend $600 a year on PS/CC.

Are you going to pursue it with them? In my few dealings I've always found them responsive to a reasonable question. I does sound very odd.
Yeah, I fired off a note to them a couple of hours back - so we'll see.

I don't know. The standard (I think) rejection notice for "non-news file in news queue" says: If you had an image of someone announcing this news, a protest about it or management meeting to discuss it, it would be considered live news. If you have any images like this in future we would love your images. I'd like to see the reviewer come and launch an unofficial public protest here. It wouldn't be the first, of course, there was one about 20 years ago. As I recall, they sent commandos on helicopters to persuade the protesters to stop. As for public announcements about government meetings - yeah, you'll be lucky. I do have a picture of a dhow with a seagull resting on the prow. Do you think I should offer them that? Doha, July 15: a seagull perches during Gulf crisis. Or maybe I could do a weather picture - July 15: Nobody is pictured on Doha Corniche as a vicious heatwave sweeps across the Arabian desert driving residents indoors ......

At one time iStock said they wouldn't bother with following up complaints like this from non-exclusive contributors because they could not tell if the file had been licensed from somewhere else on different terms.
I could see their point, but it wasn't a very contributor friendly approach.

And now they've removed the bloody file from News and stuck it in the ordinary queue. I should just be taking pictures of rich women passing by beggars, or unidentifiable swimmers in an anonymous sea, obviously, or how about this one JHT4WY of a swan and cygnets resting on their nest!!!!!!! (No fewer than four pictures of that news event made it through).

I've just sent them a picture I took today of the Emir's administrative palace (the Diwan) in the centre of Doha with a caption about the Emir meeting the French Foreign minister in Doha today (presumably at the palace, though the location hasn't been given on the news wires). We'll see if they take it - it's different from earlier Emiri Diwan pictures because there are large yellow construction machines parked in its grounds. Oh! It's just passed!

In Qatar there are cops on display to be photographed in tourist areas http://www.alamy.com/search/imageresults.aspx?qt=JGHRHW&imgt=0
The rest of them direct traffic or drive around in cars. I don't suppose they'd mind being photographed though they might object if they were engaged in an arrest. There's hardly any crime here - not of the cops and robbers kind, anyway.

Here's some Live News I captured today...don't think the cops were too happy to see me taking their pic (maybe they were getting bribed), fk them, we live in a democracy
Well, if they were getting bribed its news - otherwise it's three cops and three black guys in a park which is a non-event.

The camera wiki isn't too complimentary about Vitorets http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Vitoret . I don't know it, I've got a Vito which is a nice little fun camera with a folding front, but that's from the 1940s. It takes decent shots so the Prontor shutter has done OK down the years. You don't have either a meter or a rangefinder or a choice of lenses with a vito or vitoret, though - so it's really basic guess-the-distance, sunny f/16 stuff. Still, if you pick one up for ten quid or so, why not try it? Have you thought of checking out charity shops? If you ask they might have some cameras buried in the back room that they'd be glad to see the back of.
