Adelaide, have a look here:
http://mikey.wordpress.com/2007/01/08/canon-powershot-a620-raw-format-hack/

I've never tried it and I would certainly hesitate...

Always manual, much of the time Aperture Priority.  It gives you more control on what you want to do, or what you want your photo look like.

Why don't you try www.scoopt.com?

I'm not with them but from what I red, they will sell your photos the same way microstock sites do but they target newspapers and other medias.

Could be interresting.
Let us know!

Thanks Geopappas,
it must be that reason.

My commision for a small level 2 should be 1$.  So it is cut in half because sold by an externel agency...
 :-\

I guess I'll have to live with it!

Likely old credits, they don't expire on DT, or a third party sale.

Should be something like that... Can't find anything on that subject in their TOS...

« on: December 17, 2007, 11:20 »
There must be something that I don't understand...

I just checked my earnings on DT this morning.  I found that one of my photo sold last week was  its 16th download  (of that particular photo).  Received .50$ for it.

Since that photo is a level 2 (>10 dl) and since I'm not exclusive there, I should receive at least 1$ for it, right?

In fact, there is no way I can receive 0.50$ for a level 2 photo...

Is this a matter of old credits or old t.o.s. or something?  ???

Now, I don't have any idea about -20C! Toooooo cold! Brrr! It's going to be 33C tomorow here... so we're going to the beach  ;)

You don't know what you're missing...  The crisp sound of frozen dry  snow under your feet,... the great feeling of your car running just as it has square tires...  Ohhh, I'm soooooo lucky

The card is a generic CF card which is up to you to trust or not... Personally, on a boat far away from any Compusmart I would not!

The card reader is a device that can transfer your photos from a CF card to your computer; no use on your trip since you don't bring a computer.

I had the same dilemma last summer, it ended up with buying 1 or 2 GB cards everytime one was full!

There are on the market devices that act like a hard drive without a computer but their price ranges from 250 to 600$ (at least last summer); for that price you better buy a small notebook.

As you can see, I have no answer for what I think is an easy problem!

Maybe our friends can tell us what they use (and how much they paid for!) ?

« on: December 02, 2007, 18:33 »
Yes, as Vonkara said, I got one few months ago...

And I still love it :)

The only thing I like less is the 10.2 Mpx, but since I was upgrading from a 350D (Rebel XT), it was an improvment but not enough to my opinion.  I still do not have access to the XL file size at iStock.

But believe me, picture quality is greater and you have much more control over it.

Chode, you do a lot of object photography; believe me, the Liveview features is something you'll love.  With it, you can fully control your camera from your computer, INCLUDING the focus!  You have the live photo on your screen, allowing you to zoom in 10X  (on your screen) and then adjusting manually focus (from your computer) while you check every part of your picture.  And only then you take the picture. Results are amazing!

Also, it is much much easier for my old eyes to navigate trough the menus with the huge screen of the 40D.

General Stock Discussion / Re: POLL: November Earnings

I'm expecting a huge drop after christmas.

Why?
Because of a main trend or because that you had many christmas related sales?

Yes, great looking site but it keeps freezing my Explorer everytime I try to look at it.

May be something with Vista?

I don't care too much because it works fine with Firefox.

LuckyOliver.com / Re: doubts about LO
« on: November 27, 2007, 21:12 »
Maunger, I can understand your point of view but, with all respects, I don't agree!

I am a (part time) photographer.  I'm not in the business of selling photos.  That's why I trust (microstock) agencies to sell my photos for me, keep a commission and send me my money.  That's why I pay them via the money they keep from selling my photos.

Now if my agent cashes some money from others photographers to sell their photos prior to mine, the rules are changed in a way that I don't like...  It has the same effect of bargaining my commissions with an agent.  Paying to sell more photos is like lowering my commissions with an agent.  And I'm not ready to do it... Again, I take photos and they sell them for me.

We'll see if that trend spreads on all sites...

« on: November 27, 2007, 19:08 »

the sideshow comes up in random order all the time... and yeah, there was a bit of discussion once on what would happen when there was 100's or 1000's of images in the sideshow.. if it would loose it's 'specialness' or not.

Then why not charging more for a photo to show earlier in the 'random' order? or showing twice?

I can see the point of stockmaniac, how would everybody feels if one could buy  the Image of the week status on IS ???

It opens the door to strategies that I don't like...
