Pond5 / Re: Minimum prices at Pond5
« on: October 08, 2016, 22:07 »
Using reason, mathematics and common sense didn't work. Finally, Pond5 had to force you bottom feeders to raise your prices to (or closer to) a respectable level, and reduce contributing to the cheapening of our collected product. Thank you Pond5!

Now let's see if you stubborn $10 (now $25) clip sellers will be honest and report back when your monthly dollar amounts increase in the coming months and admit that those of us begging you to raise your prices were correct and trying to steer you the right way all along.

Then maybe even after that, you'll realize we were also right about dumping bottom feeding sites like Envato and artist-hating, commission stealing pieces of garbage like iStock/Getty. Time to start letting those companies adapt or die, and time to only support the fair(er) ones.

We all know you won't though.

Great post. Any clip sold under $50 is bottom feeding IMO and to the detriment of everyone. Lift your game and pricing please bottom feeders.

I got the email too. I made some of my videos $10 so they probably want more profit ... Not sure if it will hurt my sales though...

$10 per video is an absolute joke. Did you forget to take the lens cap off? You're shooting yourself and everyone else in the foot.

0 sales on Alamy is actually well above average.

You probably need to be patient and give it 5-10 years. If nothing has sold by then change it up a bit.

Price minimum $79 for HD and double that for 4K. Anything less signals desperation for sales and amateur status

General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy's "Additonal Revenue Options"

Alamy's primary revenue options are bad enough, additional is like adding pennies to the few dollar scraps to be made here and there. Basically a failed enterprise.

General Macrostock / Re: Getty report for Feb 2016
« on: August 20, 2016, 21:14 »
Sadly Getty commissions seem to be on a downward spiral since 2014. I think the reason is down to increased number of uploads, increased quality of photos and therefore stiffer competition, more competition form other agencies and therefore price downturns, and finally demand for photos is exceeded by supply.

One or two months price testing is simply not enough, especially during the slow months of July and August. You need to try at least four months for a different pricing model. Try and shoot niche subjects and do them really well, then you can have minimum HD prices of $79.

General Stock Discussion / Alamy back down to middle tier
« on: August 05, 2016, 15:13 »
Alamy's short term bogus position at second spot behind SS seems to have corrected itself. Envato has taken up an equally dubious position. Obviously too few people fill out the poll for the results to be reliable.

Nothing so far. My biggest sale at Getty $4500 net. Biggest at Alamy where I've been 4 year longer than Getty is $265 net. Conclusion, Alamy is pathetic.

America will never give up its moronic maverick cowboy gun culture since the balance of power believe it's a birthright. The really idiotic ones think guns are a great form of self defence. I call it deluded paranoia and/or denial.

They need QC measures on clips which is already being implemented at submission time. Some QC on pricing would be good to see as well.

I don't go along with the doom and gloom on membership since its only 200k clips out of 5 million. Membership would only appeal to a certain % of buyers.

I upload new video to SS it was approved I get confirmation email but video is not visible only messages on SS web page. - We're sorry, this clip is no longer available

Any idea why?
Thanks

Patience, it will appear for sure

Why are contributors moaning so much about P5 membership when SS via Bigstock and VB are doing exactly the same? Makes no sense to point the finger just at P5.

I have dropped my exclusive status and this is one reason why! I don't care to sell 4k the same as HD, I will not and have stopped loading any 4k to iStock.

The big question is, is it worth the extra effort to render out a 4K and an HD version of your clips just to give the HD to iStock where you still may only get between $3 and $9 per download?

That said, I do throw some clips iStock's way every now and then, and yes, some of those clips are HD versions of my 4K files I specifically render at 1080p just for iStock.  Generally, I do this only when I have some extra time and not have other work to do at other agencies.

Only time will tell if I continue this.

Waste of time - you shouldn't accept less than US$25 net/average per download, meaning Istock is a no go for video.
What you are saying was perfectly true until a couple of months ago.
I would have never have thought of letting istock even sniff one of my file.
Everything has changed now with p5 membership program:
Basically they are giving good hand picked files covering almost everything for practically nothing and they pay no royalties to artist.
The video stock market is dead, P5 killed it, no more sales to be had. So now I even consider uploading to istock or Envato.
Or if someone wants my portfolio for a couple of drinks, he can have it

Personally I don't agree with you. Stock video market is far from dead, you just need to have niches. P5 pay monthly retainers for all the membership videos. Since the membership I've had more sales than ever and my minimum prices are around $79. I have niches and I find if I submit cliche videos already well stocked then they get rejected.

You are really overestimating the power of Pond5. The video market will be ok for many years to come.

The video market is very small, much smaller than the one for still images.
P5 was a major player.
The membership program is by far the biggest dumping in history: the price of clips went from around $75 to single figure overnight.
P5 are advertising very hard and they have now plenty of money for it
[/quote]

Plenty of big figure non-membership POND5 sales to be had. You just have to shoot the right stuff and create your own niche.

273
How many of you shifted to Alamy and envoto after they moved up in the polls?

The ones that have to be shorn twice yearly

274
Selling on Depositphotos and Motionelements you could quickly recoup expenses of helicopter and red camera
Would you care to develop on this?
I have never heard anything about these two. Do they sell video? Are they any interesting?

They are very interesting and sell video.
