Opla
Those 103 DLs at iStock are well deserved after having to PS out all the brand names on all those containers
Leaf
Have you been uploading to SS lately? just wondering how much sales will drop if I cease my aggressive portfolio building

My favourite time counting all those pennies
SS 43.6%
DT 16.3% iS 11.1 % FT 9.6%
BigStock 5.9% StockXpert 5.6% 123 5.4% * using 30c per subscription DL
FP 0.9% SPM 0.8% CanStockPhoto 0.7%
Quite surprising performance from DT earning double their usual and this was before the new prices. BigStock also earned double.
Best month across the board with the exceptions of FT + 123, and the last three.

FT state the "number of online images" when you upload an image they kept a tiny thumbnail online whether it is accepted, rejected, deleted or goes to the free section.
Doesn't say anywhere how many images that were accepted and for sale
SS overtook Istock a while back

I personally have found that any photos that were stuck in pending limbo were lacking keywords. They tend to review any pending images all in one go maybe some reviewers are scared by over 100 images to review. I haven't had any major problems with FTP I like the fact it tells you if it has read the IPTC data.
I find the SS image processor the most unreliable for reading IPTC data.
They are a steady but slow earner for me

requested payouts at StockXpert, DT, BigStock + FT on Monday 26 th
Monday BigStock payment arrived Tuesday DT payment arrived Wednesday StockXpert + FT arrived
so can't complain
You can FTP a jpeg and zipped eps file with the same file name to StockXpert though you can only upload 25 pairs per day.

Did they mean overlit are their blown out highlights check the curve to see if you have any pixels at 255 (though most accepted results have white bits.
Did you have the option to resubmit if you did they think its fixable if not best to forget about it I am sure you have other photos that can fill your meagre weekly upoad
Unless the reviewer thought that 131 photos was enough of isolated chilli peppers (though most search results look like fat peppers).
Though I did like the pepper with a zip

I know the price increase had been delayed didn't realize it they had set a new date certainly explains why yesterday was my best day at DT ever 13 Dls and an XL sale my first ever at DT. I presume the XLicence price reduction was permanent. Hopefully BigStock won't wait too long before increasing their prices (pity I submitted all those 4mp photos there when I had 8mp versions )

A while back BS insisted you enter seven words in the description field which I was doing but now I noticed since the weekend they aren't reading this data so you have to type in the information in fresh or copy and paste rather annoying.
They are accepting vectors though you can't upload eps files for previously rasterized images yet. earnings are a bit low ($1) compared to StockXpert,DT and 123 ($2.50, $2 and $1.50)

Despite notices on the site StockXpert DO accept eps files that were made with programs other than Adobe Illustrator 8.
I had a few rasterized Jpegs accepted there so went through their system of accessing a previously accepted file and then uploading a zipped eps file.
Initially results were good with just the odd rejection.
Not sure if their FTP option can cope with a JPEG and a zipped eps file with the same file name and as my illustrations are not overly popular so my current strategy was upload a batch of rasterized jpegs then upload the zipped eps if they were accepted.
I have recently noticed a major flaw in this I recently had a batch accepted 100% so uploaded the relevant eps files the second reviewer didnt like them we are not looking for such images right now (obviously this changes daily). Consequently the original file was effectively rejected not showing up in searches or listing download credit prices with my images
Will try the FTP option today (uploading both files) and keep you posted

Sorry for missing last Monday counting exercise down in London and couldn't face this with a 56 K modem SS 1,549,608 [1,498,102] (1,464,442) +51,506 IS 1,478,000 [1,429,000] (1,421,002) +49,000 FT 2,500,308 [2,379,735] (2,321,582) +120,573 DT 1,000,000 [960,000] (940,000) +40,000 * BigStock 900,000 [867,000] (850,000) +33,000 # 123 [500,000+] StockXpert 448,000+ CanStockPhoto 376,738 [366,648] (362,349) +10,090 FP 201,625 [187,216] (180,928) +14,409 SPM 109,532 [104,102] (101,779) +5,430 * well it finally happened and a newbie at DT got the prize just 23 files all uploaded in February. I see the next prize is pretty cool as well a 30 GB iPod. Though the new prices at DT have yet to start # finally started accepting vector files though you can't upload eps files for previously accepted jpegs yet.

Slightly off topic but a question from the man from StockXpert - Steve Oh
Any chance of starting to accept eps files for vectors? As I do NOT have Adode illustrator as DT, SPM, SS + iS all accept eps files.

do you have your photos elsewhere? post a link to yor portfolio
If one of us is feeling kind we may suggest ten photos to try. I find that variety is almost as important as the techicnal aspects remember no noise and no blown out highlights if there are any pixels at 255 luminosity you may have trouble.

I noticed that they have calculated the January payout per subscription and its 34c again. It usually takes them a few days after the end of the month to count the pennies but they seem to have increased their minimum payout to 30c for February (instead of 22c). http://www.fintastique.com/123royaltyfree.htmThe sales may be slow but uploading is easy and they have a high acceptance rate If only SS would increase to 30C

The bottom line for DA at iStock is if your subject has more than two words and you haven't DA there is a chance it won't be found in the intended search at all especially if one of the words is common and has multiple meanings
examples I can remember
St Andrews
Celtic Cross
so worth at least scanning down your files or checking last download of previously popular files.
I do know how to get the BigStock breakdown just their site was incredibly sluggish this morning I could see the first page but couldn't navigate at all around the site, though FT get my vote for most well hidden stats.
Did anyone notice any discepancies at CanStockPhoto between recorded DLs and their stats.

For a few months before I found my feet in microstock I was clicking on the box "if not accepted submit for the free section".
Initailly I got a few noticeable payments 10 and 20c then they quickly dropped to 0.002c
I was looking at the left of the screen last month and I noticed my free downkloads had crept up to 1,000 so I bit the bullet and went through my portfolio to find these free images. Also free Dls are included in your DLs/day stats (thanks really useful)
I think there were about 40-50 in total some were borderline crap but there were a few which weren't pretty but got the job done. One in particular is (my current third best seller on SS and had 7 DLs at DT) had 30 free DLs at FT.
So beware, I think now there is virtually no point submitting those free images especially as there are sites which have different ideas what is stock where someone will pay cash. A "one off" free image that appears on the frontpage is another thing entirely.

My only moan about SS is their stats hard to keep track of what is actually selling it would be nice to arrange your portfolio in order of DLs not popularity with numbers underneath.
Great sales at SS as well.

Its that time of the month for finding and opening my spreadsheets.
Well it was neck and neck between iStock and FT for most of the month for second place until FT surged ahead with an extended licence sale yesterday so DT were pushed into 4th. Best months ever at SS, FT, IS, DT, FP, 123 and far better than December 57% higher overall.
SS 42.2% FT 14.0% iS 12.4% DT 10.6% 123 7% * StockXpert 5.2% BigStock 3.9% # FP 3.6% ~
CanStockPhoto 1% @ SPM 0.1% &
* They have not worked out their subscription sale price for this month so that will increase.
# guessimate as their website will only show my current balance can't navigate at all.
~ I notice once you receive a payout all details of images previously downloaded are forgotten a pity.
@ Their stats graph reports a higher number of downloads and earnings than the breakdown of my balance - rather odd. have essentially stopped uploading.
& I have been on and off one of their top four contributors for the last month so I get a direct link on their frontpage, I don't get the greatest thumbnails but despite dropping their prices they still are getting few visitors because with a portfolio of over 2,300 photos virtually no sales.

You have posted links to your modify image page, go to your portfolio (not online files in management area) click on the neglected image and make the links from there

why do tomorrow what you can do today, lightbox is up and running.
Not sure if a collection would be more appropriate at DT as they have keywords and have a link in the "managing" photographers profile so anyone can find them

Basically the same thing as iStocks neglected images but on DT. Obviously you can't rate images here so its not going to have the same impact but if is anyone is interested. post your links here So three images each more than a month old, (more than 50 views) but less than 5 DLs. http://www.dreamstime.com/goldengatebridge-image598975http://www.dreamstime.com/thecuriouslamb-image556871http://www.dreamstime.com/reflectionofchateauchenonceau-image571523I made my selection by going to online files and ordering them by views and looked at the DLs I suppose if anyone is feeling energetic they could volunteer for FT and BigStock. neglected images on SS would be a real bind, the biggest weakest there is the stats finding out how many DLs for less popular images takes a long time. I will be away from my computer for most of the weekend so I will make the lightbox on Monday if there are enough images.
