how do we transfer the files from the "upload queue" to the pending area. I tried the "submit for review" on a couple images but that did not seem to do anything

i would be happy if they would just review the images; can not sell anything the customer can not see!

Hello All;
I have been submitting batches of images to all the agencies; I was exclusive with DT for a year so I am familiar with procedures. My acceptance rates are around 85-90% at all the agencies except IS; it is sitting at 50%. Granted, they have only reviewed 18 images, accepted 9 and the other agencies have reviewed hundreds.
Is this normal for IS? I did not send in selects to IS, just the normal submissions that were also sent to others. I understand all agencies have different standards; just trying to get a feel for the IS standards.

i spent five hours yesterday clicking buttons; all the same * buttons. Every image was wildlife, every image had acceptable keywords that just needed to be transferred, I accepted the rules and regulations for every image and i submitted every image.
I got a PhD to do this! Actually, it does not matter what my education is; the system is stupid.
Those that are large enough to have a staff of office workers must feel really bad; paying an office worker to do a task such as this. At least, I can sit in front of the stereo or something enjoying the music as I key in each individual image.

is there a faster way to input images to Fotolia. i use lightburner but once they are in Fotolia, i must click each image, transfer the keywords, accept the terms, set category and submit image. This is maddening; is there a batch submit or something.

not wanting to "veer" off topic here but any chance of getting images reviewed in the near future. I currently have 100 ready for review and about 500 waiting their turn as you allow them to be submitted. I have great hopes for Veer but no hope without my images being seen by buyers

have you tried Lightburner ( www.lightburner.com). You upload using filezilla to lightburner and they upload to BigStock, works a charm.

This Op and hers alike, they got nothing to loose but a few DLs per month but some of us have got a hell of a lot more to loose. We shouldnt encourage these idiot-threads and especially not with people that are small fry.
* * __ I just can't stand it any more. THE WORD IS LOSE, not loose, LOSE. If you are setting something free (or referring to 'loose change') you can use the word 'loose'. Otherwise the word is LOSE. Got it?
ROTFLMAO: I am at a restaurant doing my microstock work; they ask me to leave because I was laughing so hard

So far, excellent review of my images, well over 90% acceptances with rejections in agreement with most other sites; very fast processing of images-they are online nearly as fast as they allow me to upload. I would like to see the quota of 50 images a day raised for good acceptance ratio; it is a bit of a pain to upload a port by coming online every day just to click up the next batch.

i know I am beating a drum we have all heard; but if you drop exclusive, be prepared for a ton of work to get your port. on other sites. i just drop excl. at DT and it is a ton of work to get the port. on the other sites. Even with lightburner, it is still a ton of work. Yes, some of the sites are a breeze but most are a royal pain, like BigStock and Panther.
This is my full-time job so must suck it up and work the long hours to get the port developed across the entire system. Excl. is not an option at IS as I am only allowed 18 uploads a week and it would take years to get my port their.
Acceptance is going well, most sites well over 90%

Yeah I hope these help. I will be releasing a bunch more information regarding buyers and purchasing so hopefully this can aide everyone in your decision making process.

I submitted a bunch of photos on the 2nd as a new user, and they still have not been reviewed. Won't get a bonus if they don't review them.
If I understood the offering, the images must be uploaded by the 14th; but could be accepted after that date and still receive the bonus. I missed the bonus as my ftp info did not come till the 15th.

Well, judging by the arrows for the earnings ratings to the right, all the big 4 are down, all but one middle tier is down and many of the lower tier are up. I would say we are beginning to see a slow shift of buyers to other sites.

I had this argument with Dreamstime; they would not allow geographic terms in my keywords and I told them they were essential for the identification of the animals with respect to location. Do a search for tiger or Siberian Tiger; you will get thousands of zoo images. Do a search for Primorski, Tiger, Russia and you will get mostly Tigers from the wild.
Another example, go a search for Eastern Great Tit (a bird) and you get thousands of images of pretty girls from the east or looking east or that have been on a trip to the east, etc. Do a search for Eastern Great Tit, Amur and you will get photos of a small bird with a colorful pale yellow belly. But, DT will not allow the words Primorski, Russia or Amur in the keywords.
I, the seller, am screwed because the buyer can not find my work and the buyer is screwed because he/she must wade through junk to find the images
Sorry but that's a poor example. If you want to sell images of wildlife then it is absolutely unforgivable to not use the binomial nomenclature (Latin/Greek names) to identify them. If you want to sell an image of a Great Tit then you should have the words Parus major within your keywords __ which you don't. The location then becomes largely irrelevant as birds have a tendency to fly to different places but obviously their name remains the same. It also differentiates you as a professional supplier of wildlife images from the happy snapper at the zoo or in their garden. You could really do with improving your keywording. It is also essential to state what the subject is doing __ is the bird flying, perching, eating or what? Whenever I sell a wildlife image on DT the buyer ususally keywords the action and very often the Latin name.
Point taken, understood, will revise my keywords

.We now have an FTP set up for contributors. If you wish to use this then please drop us an email and we will set you up with an account. .Johnnie
The bonus program ends Monday, wonder if they will get back to us prior to Monday with the FTP info; there is no way I can upload the bonus images individually to this website without ftp, just to time consuming.

I don't know who was in the US when Nancy Reagan bought new White House china during a recession. There was a huge uproar.
The PR spin doctors went to work explaining that it was all purchased with private money. It was true, but it was a tone-deaf thing to do given the state of most people's lives at the time - the notion that there were multiple services with different patterns in use at large state dinners didn't seem to most like a crisis.
I do think that promoting the business to buyers is something they should continue to do, but the notion that they're partying (or party planning) while the site limps along says to me that they just don't get it. They may not care one little bit about their existing contributors, or the massively long time the site has been limping, but they don't have to remind me of it so often.
Very well said.

part of the advantage of using a stock agency is no client contact; no request for special size images or special dpi, etc. They get what is offered. You really want to deal direct for a few dollars more and respond to the volume of emails, send out invoices, wait for payment that may never arrive, and all the other hassels associated with dealing direct. When I deal direct, it is for significant more money, not a few dollars more.

Just tried this search on Shutterstock "Black, Businessman, Standing" with 50 images showing 20 images are of White businessman standing. To get black Businessmen only would I have to put the words "African Descent or Afro American"?
I think half the battle is educating the users on the features available. Creating a good search engine is difficult if the users don't make use of any features outside of the basics. Even Google becomes that much more powerful if you exclude a keyword or two. The SS example, you would just check the 'People search' and select African American (or the other options they have depending what you mean) from the list...
Exactly, in addition to the black businessmen you will also get all the buisnessmen wearing a black suit or against a black background or wearing a black tie, etc etc. Input something vague in the search field and you will get something vague back. If you have a crappy title and crappy keywords, the search engine will deliver crappy results. The reviewers need to do their job and they need some reviewers to go through the old stock and cull out the bad stuff.

My photo was rejected. But ... for the first time ever (I think) a reviewer gave a specific reason for rejecting a specific image:
Reason: blown out highlight in the rice. thank you.
Can't get much more specific than that.
PS: I knew the highlight was blown but thought it could sneak through. BS saved me the embarrassment of having a buyer think my photography sucks.
Thank you Big Stock.
Warren You remind me of my favorite saying "I have standards, they're low, but I HAVE standards" (say the caps with stronger emphasis). Maybe it is time to raise your standards a tad; blown highlights are for newbies.

Welcome to the wide world of microstock and photography; i wish you the best. Best advice, shoot in raw mode, shoot everyday-not every couple days but every frickin day so you learn light. You can learn about your camera sitting in front of the boob tube; you need to learn to see and feel the light; direction, intensity, shadows, exposure, whites, blacks, etc. photography is light!
I am sure you camera has autofocus and autoexposure; put everything in manual and learn how to use the camera; not just the shutter button. Make mistakes, tons of them, but learn from them. I know people that have been using a camera for 40 years that can not get proper exposure. Learn what are blown whites and blocked up blacks or shadows.
photograph buses, cars, people, anything; if you do not take 100 pictures a day, and really try to take 100 good pictures, you will be no farther to reaching your dream next year than you are today.
Join Dreamstime and Fotolia; these are two sites that will help the newbie, a little.
Develop a tough exterior, this is a tuff business; never forget, this is a business. Even if you are in this for fun, some of us-this is our career and our life; we take microstock seriously and discussions can get a bit heated and at times-slap happy.
Mommy and friends are great but do not ask their opinions of your work; they will tell you that you are great. Honestly, I have never seen your work but I am pretty sure it sucks! After a couple years experience, you will get better. Want the truth, post an image here and you will get honest advice; it may hurt but it will be honest; from people that actually work in this industry.
