New Sites - General / Re: Picture Nation
« on: April 09, 2012, 13:15 »
Hi Steve, depending on your meaning of "success" I have had a number of sales there over the years. That said, it has gone very quite for me in recent months. I can, of course, only speak for myself as PN contributors are pretty scarce here so I do not know how it is doing for anyone else.
My sales have mainly been from my archive celeb images (politicians etc). Other images sold include some from Hastings (the pier etc) and animal shots. What hasn't sold for me there are my Greek island images (just one sale) though they do well on the micro sites.
Again, of course, I have no idea what is working for other people there. I'm seeing a lot more of typical micro images (isolated on white etc) appearing there -so maybe people are selling those.
The commission is a decent 40% and most of my sales are medium/high res sales paying 4 and 6 commission (that's quite a few subs sales on micro sites). I like them, they are a friendly and small team, uploading is easy and I'll keep them in my workflow. I know a new version of the site is being worked on (no live date as yet).
BTW I'd be interested in seeing that magazine article -which one was it in? Interesting selection -where's Dreamstime?
Kind regards, David.

(And before someone else points it out -there is a link to my blog on their site)

« on: April 09, 2012, 02:44 »
The Java upload worked fine for me throughout the weekend but, like everyone else, the images stayed in the processing stage. Good news is mine are now starting to show up in the submit area (Monday morning, UK time). Just put the first ones through for review. Regards, David.

Emailed Linda and got a reply right away (that's service). They already knew about it and are working on it now -just a delay in "synchronisation". Nothing uploaded is lost. There's a post about it on their Facebook page for anyone interested (doesn't actually say anymore than I just wrote). Link here: http://www.facebook.com/join.yaymicro
I've just kept uploading as normal -they'll be online soon enough.
Regards, David.

Well, my latest batch just passed the two hour mark - so I guess they are busy poring over yours right now ;D

Lol! This is so exciting, I'm warming up my inbox as we speak.  :D

Err.. you might want to make yourself a cup of coffee or something -just got approved (right on three hours) :)

Hey Newsfocus.. how many images/files do you submit in one batch ?

I keep it to around 3-6 images per batch (though might have several batches up  for review at the same time). I learned my lesson early on when a single batch of 20 or so got slaughtered :'(  Do small batches maybe get reviewed faster? No idea, but I suppose it is possible. Don't forget, though, that I am just talking editorial images here which get reviewed faster anyway. Regards,David.

Hi All,

I had 10 files yesterday that were listed as pending (e.g. they needed to reviewed).  This morning however when I logged into my account... they are not listed as rejected but they aren't in my portfolio either. So what happened to my files?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Not just you Cricket -same with my last 3 or 4 batches in the last few days. I was going to email Linda later today but hopefully she'll see this thread first. I'm guessing just a bug preventing approved images from appearing in your port (they are not searchable either -I tried!). Regards, David.

Thanks for confirming.. i thought it was only me facing delay in review as most of others were reporting quick review...

Not sure about that. I haven't checked in a while, but I think there are 1 or 2 threads in the ss forum about contributors experiencing long review times. I was always impressed in the past about how quick they review, no fast reviews for me anymore, even editorial images which used to be super fast are taking ages to be reviewed now.

Uploaded two batches of editorial images yesterday -both reviewed within a couple of hours (which is my normal experience). Regards, David.

I see Newsfocus ;), just 2 hours. My unimportant editorial images of Asia haven't been waiting ages yet, just 24 hours, but already 12 times longer than yours. It is amazing how contributors' experiences can be so far apart at times.

Yaymicro / Re: Has anyone had any sales?
« on: March 14, 2012, 04:09 »
Think Yay must have just posted some 3rd party sales - anyone else notice that? It's down on previous 3rd party earnings unfortunately, but then I heard they were phasing it out so not surprising.

Yes, just had mine. Certainly from the 3rd party as it is posted in the referral sales section. Just a couple of Euros for me this time, an all time low, so on the way out I think. They have a whole bunch of new partner arrangements however - anybody seeing any sales yet through those? Regards, David.

« on: February 25, 2012, 14:07 »
I beg to differ. It still doesn't make any sense to have regular downloads on a daily basis to absolutely nothing for over a week and counting with TWICE as many files up.

It's been discussed/theorised many times both here and on their forum over the past few years. FD explained it once very well in a thread not so long back on msg (I think it was msg), but I've no idea in what thread.

This one maybe? http://www.microstockgroup.com/dreamstime-com/subs-taking-control-of-dt/75/
And, yes, that is just how DT works for me -bursts of sales (subs or credit sales) then nothing for days and then another burst of sales. Luckily I am on my credit sales part of the Mexican Wave this week! Regards, David.

I'll bet being featured on the front page didn't hurt   ;D

Lol! In actual fact Mike I didn't see a mass of downloads from that at the time. I'm sure anyone doing "stocky" commercial images probaly does but my port is mainly editorial and I guess you either need that type of image or you don't at  any given time. I am sure though that, going forward,  it will help. Probaly the interview thing they did on their blog will help more as it's permanent.
BTW just checking your DT port and I really liked your Troll Portrait (there are a few posters here that might care to buy that for their avatar ;D). Kind regards, David.

Well actually it is the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists that are the real problem ;)
Seriously though I am a total news junkie but had never heard of ACTA until your post. As Baldrick said you do need to spell out what it stands for (granted not always easy with a 200 character limit). Regards, David.

« on: February 13, 2012, 06:00 »
Hi Sarah, you are not alone! I have had the same issue several times in the last week (in my case using IE9). I found that going to another site or two and then back to SS I could then just get in normally (note, I stayed logged in). Guessing this is just a bug at their end (like the automatic Facebook app not working for me since December -apart from two days last week when it sprang into life then stopped again).
Uploading and everything else work fine for me. Anyone else having issues? Regards, David.

« on: February 04, 2012, 14:39 »
Many thanks Warren and Tim. I got an email the day before saying I'd been chosen and it went live on my Birthday -quite a present I thought! There's also an interview which they are publishing on the site next week. I got to choose the images that go with that. It's certainly exciting getting all that exposure. Kind regards, David.

I wonder if featuring artists around their birthday is a 'thing'.  After nearly 7 years on Dreamstime I was featured last November, like you, right after my birthday.

Thanks Leaf! More likely just co-incidence I would have thought. We'd have to ask all the previous ones I suppose. Can't remember the sign up process -do we give a date of birth in that? I think I must have uploaded my driving license as ID so it was on that. Whatever, very welcome anyway! Regards, David.

David can I ask - did you do anything to put yourself out there for being the feature photog? Or did they just pick you? Would love to know how some of these 'inner workings' work!

Hope it bumps up your weeks earnings anyway David!

No Tim, I just got picked. I did have an "editors choice" from my most recent uploads which might have drawn attention, maybe. I'm guessing that they like the depth that all my old B/W stuff brings to what is a relatively new agency. I have this notion that they think of me as the "dead politicians guy" since so many of my captions end with "he/she died in xxxx"! Regards, David.

Veer / Re: Missing Funds
« on: January 17, 2012, 14:59 »
Does anyone know if Veer is going to pay those who didn't reach payout by the end of the year?  My port is still tiny, so this has been the only way I've reached payout the past two years, but I'm not seeing anything that says they will repeat this year.

I'm sure that they stopped that Karin. I made about $75 in the Dash For Cash upload payments back in 2010, but didn't get a (business) year end payout like they used to do. An EL this year took me to an Oh So Close $93. Sadly, my images are all "too editorial" or not of "sufficient aesthetic quality" so I could be waiting a while for payout! Bit of a shame as I used to think that the Corbis policy of paying out all commission earned at year end (regardless of amount) was a great benchmark for the industry -one that all agencies should follow. Kind regards, David.

« on: January 09, 2012, 11:45 »
I've used the LiveChat that replaced the Forum, David.  Be nice to have both but if left to a choice ... I'd choose the Live Chat.

Thanks Warren, I thought that was just to get in touch with someone at Bigstock if you had a problem or something and wanted a realtime answer. So you can communicate with other contributors through that then?? Mind you, sounds a tad too immediate for me -I like a bit of thinking time before replying.... Regards, David.

Bigstock.com / Bigstock forum gone
« on: January 09, 2012, 11:12 »
Just went to check out their forum and found it gone. They have replaced it with a message saying it is removed (for now) and a feedback form on if/how we want to communicate with fellow contributors including options like: Bigstock forum, Facebook page, MSG etc. Ironically, I only went there because I thought I really should take a look more frequently. That, of course, was the problem -so little going on that it didn't encourage you to rush back in case you missed something interesting. Bit sad really, I might not have visited often but I liked the idea of it being there. That's the fourth (of the sites I'm on) forum to go - Picturenation, Yaymicro, 123RF went earlier. Facebook pages and Twitter do not have the same feel for me, though I'm on both. Maybe if enough people express an interest on the form they will bring it back. Anyone here going to miss it? Regards, David.

Not sure how many (if any) of mine have been transferred. I was opted out, till we had no option. How do I search to find out please?

Sue, on both Photos.com and Thinkstock.com, just enter a search using your real name (not username) in inverted commas - so in my case "david fowler". Just tried yours, with no results. All my new uploads (excepting editorial) just go straight over -but I was in the PP from the start. I imagine it is going to be a lengthy job getting the backlog of newly conscripted contributors over.
