Is it only me who finds it strange that an Alamy representative opens a topic just days after Alamy has skyrocketed on the poll?

So far, the $40,000-$60,000 range seems to be a kind of a plateau which is difficult to cross...

$16.8 for top tier! Ha, ha! This makes the price of that EL like what? $56.2?
Besides, it has been purchased from Germany, a top tier country!
Way to go and undercut my 100 credits ELs from Fotolia!

Well, tbh, you are the one who is undercutting yourself. SS has an opt-out option, so you can enjoy selling ELs on Fotolia and not worry.

i'm "prolific" timelapser and i've to say reflex are a very good option (better than phones and gopro) for the simple fact that for the reflexes you have lot of standard useful gear that help and make your work faster and better...while finding good tools for phones and gopros is not that easy

here you can see one of my timelapses

That's quite nice. You do have wind (I assume) moving the frame a bit, but you can fix this in like 5 clicks with the warp stabilizer. Also some scenes suffer from flicker and some show nasty sensor spots. All those things you can solve very easily and will make your clips look more professional.

Which dolly do you use?

Does FT accept editorial video clips?

Also interested about this one. Mat, could you let us know if FT/Adobe Stock accepts editorial footage?

EU member state. The latest calculation from last week from one of our financial portals was on average 55% of income going to state - this includes revenue tax 20%, health insurance, social insurance, VAT 20% and some other smaller fees.

Dayum. 55% is just too much.

The OP mentions relocating to avoid high taxes but I think that only looking at income tax isn't the way to do it, you have to look at all the taxes to work out if it is worthwhile relocating.
Not necessarily. Once can be a tax resident at one country, and spend that money in a cheaper country which has higher taxes (but you don't care because you pay a low rate in a different country).

Hi everyone,

We are pleased to announce that 4K video content is now available at Adobe Stock. 4K clips cost $199.99 and your commission rate is 35% (approximately 70 credits). Customers now have the option to purchase the 4K version of your clip for $199.99 or they can purchase the HD version for $79.99.

This is a great time to submit new content as we are working hard to get your work in front of the millions of creatives around the world using Adobe software. We are looking for 5-60 second clips. Details on technical specifications can be found here: https://us.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/Files/Videos

Kind regards,

Mat Hayward

Nice!

One question - will you accept 4096x2304 - that's a common "real 4k" resolution (16:9 ratio) and all of my 4k work is in that resolution.

@Spike,

Upload specifications for video content can be read here: https://us.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/Files/Videos

Notes specific to resolution are

"- 4K DCI (4096x2160), UHD TV (3840x2160) and Full HD (1920x1080) are preferred
- Minimum resolution: 1280x720
- Avoid as much as possible to submit files with non-standard resolution
- Don't submit files with vertical/square framing "

-Mat

I've seen the page, that's why I'm asking if you will accept 4096x2304 or not? I don't plan to transcode my entire library just for this. So that's a very specific question which needs a very specific answer.

Also, what's up with subscriptions? Is it true that contributors get as low as 17.50 credits for a 4k clip? If so, count me out.

I understand this is a complex issue which is also affected by your situation (are you employed, married, etc.), but I'd like to see the estimate of what percentage you pay due to taxation.

In my case, tax is pretty bad, and (in my microstock earnings bracket) accounts for roughly 45% of "lost revenue". I mean, for each 1000 USD that I make on microstock, I need to pay around 450 USD for taxes.

That's crazy, and I'm actually thinking of relocating due to that. I'm in the EU.

What's your situation, what chunk of your microstock income do taxes eat?

SS accept these and they sell good, so I like to get them on FT too.

Got an EL today. 10$ (!) less than before. And I'm in the top tier.

Thanks shutterstock, I really feel like a partner now. :)

I'll wait for like a month before making a decision, but by the looks of it, I'll opt out from EL's.

291
Wow, that classic scam-marketing talk. Let me try to rewrite.

Guys, I cannot tell you how happy I am. In January my weight decreased by 20% How is that possible? Well, I was always eating junk food, especially pizza. But now, everything is history. I released a special book for you guys so you can read it at the train, at work, or even in your sleep (it's an audio book!). I also created a secret tool that will give you suggestions what to eat. You can learn how to make 50 fat-free salads in 10 seconds. Dieting in not work anymore, is just fun! And I feel like eating healthy again!

292
I honestly don't see the point of announcing such a big change, and then not giving the details immediately. Like it's some no-name company with two and a half employees.

Unless they want to see how the community reacts to adjust the percentages depending on the reaction. Shutterstock does a lot of A/B testing, trying out different things, so it's unlikely, but also I wouldn't be surprised.

In any case, if the change is negative for me (top tier), I will deactivate enhanced licences (it's very easy to do - account settings - Enhanced License -> Opt Out)

293
So far, there are 7 votes for "no, I don't report microstock income for tax". I have questions for you guys as well!

How much do you earn per month, roughly? If it's like 100$, I can somewhat understand not reporting it, especially if you don't live in the US. But for 1000$ and above, isn't that playing with fire? Second question - do you have the intention to report it in the future? Aren't you afraid of the legal/tax institutions in your country? And which country is that where you microstock income can go unnoticed by the authorities?

I know it's hard to answer these if you're not somewhat anonymous on the forum, but I'd value your insights. You can register another account just for this purpose (too bad one can't set certain topics to allow for guest posting).

I'm wondering what kind of financial workflow do you use to keep on top of everything stock-related? Do you have an accountant or do you do everything by yourself? Do you even report (poll above)?

I need to revise my workflow, as it's becoming harder and harder to keep track when an agency has sent me a payment. Up until now, I just had a huge excel sheet with monthly earnings per agency (with portfolio size, RPI, RPD, STR, etc.), but that's not really a good solution for reporting income, as you only need to report what the agency has paid out to you, if I understood correctly. So, for example, if you have xxxx credits on FT, but don't transfer it to your PP/Skrill/..., that "income" is not "taxable", as you haven't received anything. Right?

So, how do you manage your stock income, do you use any specialized software, or have a separate excel sheet with agency payouts only? Do you even bother with that (I personally know quite a few contributors who don't report it as income at all)?

I'm on Windows 10 and only use windows defender. Recently I started using Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, it's just a plugin for Chrome. Some other extensions that I also use: Ghostery, uBlock, HTTPS everywhere. Never had any problems. Then again, I don't install crap.

Adobe Stock / Becoming emerald on FT - increase prices?
« on: November 17, 2015, 12:21 »
Hi all,

So I'm steps away from becoming emerald on fotolia, and I'm wondering does the price increase happen automatically or do I have to contact support or manually change the price of all my files (no, please no)?

Another question is - when you increased your prices, did you see a drop in sales? Did you see an increase of earnings, and if so, what was the amount?

I get only about 25% of sales through credits, so I don't really think my income will skyrocket, but I'm wondering what you guys have observed, so I can compare my results!

Thanks!

DepositPhotos / What's the current situation with depositphotos?
« on: September 27, 2015, 20:16 »
I've been out of the loop for some time now, so I'm looking to find out if it's not ok to upload to depositphotos?

I stopped uploading there when the 3% royalty per image was discovered, was "kindly invited to upload my stuff back" and refused, so I'm wondering if they changed their ways or not?

The last that I've read is that they reduced the royalties by 10% for all and increased prices, but what about the partner program, opt-outs, and so on? Are they now considered to be a more or less fair agency (like fotolia after the launch of adobe stock), or it's still the same? Do you upload there?

Thanks.

I have 0 sales there in like 5 months or something.

Full disclosure: my portfolio is about 25 videos, mostly timelapse.

My portfolio on SS is 6x bigger than on Canva.

If it was the same size on canva, I would still earn (just playing in excel) 4.5 less than on SS. Not bad at all. But, with the amount of images I have online on Canva, I can't report it as anything more than a low earner.
