« on: August 11, 2022, 10:06 »
Hello. How will PNG files with white objects be displayed? For example snowflakes.

Content will not be differentiated based on color. The background will be white.

Thanks,

Mat Hayward

From where in the adobe stock search can I filter just png content?

The feature is not availalble yet. We are building the collection right now so when the feature is released there will be a robust selection available.

So I did some cut outs (PNG) files for other sites, but for Adobe I put cut-out on white background (Adobe wasn't accepting PNG files at the time) and uploaded it as jpeg file.  If I understand correctly, it's OK for me to upload this same image now as PNG file (with transparent background) since now there will be two identical images, one as jpeg, and one as PNG (with transparent background)?

Yes, this is fine for isolated content that is already online in your portfolio. Do not continue to upload JPG and PNG submissions of the same images moving forward however. Stick to only the PNG as those will be available for JPG download to customers that prefer those.

Thanks,

Mat Hayward

...This is early days for the CFC...
What is the CFC?

CFC = Call For Content

In this case, the content we are calling for are PNG files with transparent backgrounds.

Thanks!

An update basically to say that nothing (that I can see) has improved with the keyword suggestions. It would be completely wrong - misleading for the buyer - for this image to have most of the keywords suggested. Christmas, candy, bow, cane, valentine, food, xmas, candy cane, gift...

Interesting that although it picked out red, it didn't get white or blue (the other two colors in the ribbon). It could have picked Bastille Day or another celebration from a country with red, white and blue flag colors.

And as far as choosing heart, the data set this was trained on must have included the world's worst images of hearts :)

Thanks Jo Ann,

We are aware there are some "challenges" with auto-keyword suggestions. I do not anticipate dramatic changes to take place overnight. These auto keyword challenges are precisely the reason I pushed so hard to have the UI changed to what you see today. Some contributors were simply submitting files as they were with all auto-keywords added by default. They were not removing or re-sorting them. This was not ideal for anyone.

What I suspect is that in most cases with contributors that are here in MSG, most were embedding metadata before uploading. Because of that,  the auto-keywords were never seen. Now that the auto keywords are "suggested" for all files whether they have embedded metadata or not, many of you are seeing them for the first time.

I have had conversation with the search team and I do believe this new data generated from you manually clicking to add the auto-keywords will help tremendously in the "learning" process. However, it will take time. For now, do what you've always done with embedding keywords, take a quick look at the suggestions and click to add anything listed that you didn't think of on your own. I have found personally at least 5 or 6 relevant suggestions to add to nearly every file I've submitted since this change has taken place.

A quick update to let you know that the toggle switch on files that were not approved for the Free collection has been removed. Thanks very much for your patience and for your participation.

So the first of my PNG files was approved this morning, but it's puzzling that while it shows as PNG for the format when viewed from the contributor side of the site, when I do a keyword search on the buyer side, the file type shows as JPEG, so while it might get purchased anyway, the reason for uploading it (and arguably a large part of the value to a buyer) is invisible.

Is this just a temporary glitch?

If Mat wants to take a look, the file number is 521901724

Another rather odd anomaly. I had two PNG files approved this morning, both illustrations (I have uploaded some isolated photos too, but those are still in the queue), both of which appear on the buyer side as JPEGs.

If I turn on the "isolated" checkbox in a search, the umbrella image (521901724) shows in a search but the wildflowers in a vase (522096417) does not.

It's not keywords as the wildflowers in a vase has the isolated keyword and umbrellas does not (both have the transparent keyword). I can't see any obvious reason these two PNGs would behave differently in a search

Thanks for the report, Jo Ann,

This isn't a glitch per se, nor does it fall into the "it's not a bug, it's a feature" category. We are in an early phase to gather content before the product is made available to the public. Currently, as you noted, PNG uploads appear as JPG images in public facing search, and they are displayed as PNG files in the contributor portal.

Once this phase is complete, the switch will be flipped and the files uploaded now as PNG will be available as PNG downloads (and JPG downloads fyi) in the public facing site. I don't have an exact date for that but I expect it will be within the next couple of months.

As far as the search result variation, I'll need to look into that further.

Thanks again,

Mat Hayward

Hello Mat, question, if I already have an approved photo in my portfolio that is jpg, can I upload the same photo in a png version with a transparent background?

Yes, as long as you have isolated the object in the image and added transparency to the PNG. Do not simply convert a jpg to png and upload a duplicate file in an alternate format.

Thanks for the question,

Mat Hayward

Matt, should we attach any special keywords to png files we upload (e.g. "png")?

Will buyers be able to explicitly search for png files?

I would add "transparent" as a keyword. No need to add the file type. This will be in a filter customers can use.

Thanks for the question,

Mat

Thanks for the post. Yes, we are actively seeking PNG files with transparent backgrounds at Adobe Stock. The basic specs are available in the contributor portal as mentioned above in this thread. This is early days for the CFC. We are in the process of building out a learn and support page with much more detailed information. I will share the link here when it's ready this week. I can answer questions for you here in this thread until then.

To start with the question about photos or illustrations selection when uploading PNG files? If it is a photo with a transparent background, select photo. If it's an illustration with a transparent background, select illustration.

As mentioned, this is early days which those of you who have been around a long time should know and understand that equates to big opportunity. Getting quality PNG files with transparent backgrounds integrated into search in the beginning can result in long term, ideal search placement so I recommend you get started uploading right away!

I'll be watching for your questions,

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock call for content for Autumn!!!

There are plenty of ways to create sellable Fall/Autumn content without being in the actual season. I hosted a livestream discussing this very topic a couple of weeks ago. Check it out here:

« on: August 05, 2022, 12:23 »
I also uploaded some "watercolor paintings" done in photoshop using some old photos of mine and the images were rejected - "PROPERTY RELEASE MISSING" ??!?.....

 ???

Unfortunately, I've not seen the files in question emailed, so it is very difficult to analyze what, if any issue there is. I am not aware of any signficant changes to moderation standards recently.

Regarding the property release requirement, this is fairly standard when submitting images of artwork, regardless of the platform used to create it. The property release requirement is in place to make sure that contributors are not simply taking photos or scanning works of art created by others and selling it as their own. For example, if you were to take a photo of a watercolor painting hanging on a wall in a coffee shop, you could not submit this as your own stock asset.

Since these submissions you have written about are watercolor paintings you personally created, @Sebastian then all you need to do is submit a release where you sign as both the property owner, and the contributor. That should solve the issue assuming the submissions meet our quality and technical requirements.

Kind regards,

Mat Hayward

The acceptance rate is generally very high at Adobe Stock.

True. My acceptance used to be over 95% until a few months ago.

This thread would be much more helpful for analysis if some or all of you were willing to share examples of the rejected content.

Sorry, but some of us (including me) may wish to stay anonymous here, for a series of reasons not related to this particular thread.

Please show us Adobe's all-time average approval/rejection rates compared to year 2022 instead. We are wondering whether it's a deliberate change or a few rogue reviewers or so-called AI.

Quote
Generally, the moderation team is looking for a reason to approve content.
In my experience, if a file is refused, there is almost always a good reason.

Not when the rejection rate changes suddenly from 5% to over 50%. It may be good but it's not a reason, I'd call it a change of policy on your part.

If you decided to refuse a lot of pictures because you already have too many, fine, but please just say "low commercial value" instead of stating some generic "quality issues" that leave me wondering whether I became totally dumb overnight.

Fair enough, please email me directly with your Adobe ID and a list of files you are referring to here and I will give you an honest critique. My email address is [email protected].

Thank you,

Mat Hayward

Is there a way to share an Adobe Stock asset to a Behance portfolio, so the viewer could license the work directly or click a link that directs to the Adobe Stock page?

No, but it's a great idea. You can share Adobe Stock collections via Adobe Portfolio.

So there will not be a second wave this year like last year?

That is correct.

Hi Everyone,

You will soon see the toggle switch for "in review" files removed. This is for files that you had nominated for consideration into the Free collection, but were not accepted during the recent 2022 wave. I have confirmed there will be no additional waves of approvals for photos from the current group of nominated files.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Mat Hayward

Does that mean that all photos that have the status "in review" were not selected by Adobe and will go back into your normal portfolio?

Those files were already in your "normal portfolio." They will remain there. The only difference you'll see is the toggle switch indicating they are "in review" will be removed.

Thanks,

Mat

Ha Ha! That image has actually done OK in the past. For the record, I used the neural filter in Photoshop to significantly advance the appearance of my age! :)

Thanks Mat. Can we expect more waves of approvals for the Free section ?

I can't say for sure whether more photos will be approved this year or not.

The process of removing the content previously in the Free collection that was either not approved again this year, or not nominated is now complete. The easiest way to see the selected files is to view your public facing portfolio page and filter by Free.

As mentioned, you'll soon receive an email that confirms the number of files that were accepted and the payment amount you received.

Thanks everyone!

Mat Hayward

Had a number of photos accepted which is nice. The number of photos I have in the 'free' collection is more than the money credited. Is this because some of the photos from last year haven't dropped out of the collection as yet because a full year isn't up for them?

Yes, this process is ongoing at this time everyone and should be completed later today. By now, if you had photos approved for the Free collection, you should see a payment has been added. This payment is not recorded in your sales statistics however, it is only seen in your actual balance.

When you view your portfolio at this moment, many of you are still seeing content that was previously accepted along with the newly accepted content. The files that were in the Free collection last year, but are not accepted this year are in the process of being removed and should be back in the paid collection sometime today.

You will receive an email tomorrow that explains exactly how many files were approved. Congratulations to everyone who had images approved, thank you very much for your participation. I'll be checking in periodically to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you,

Mat Hayward

Matt, when can we expect the first batch to be approved? This month's sales is down the drain and some extra funds would be great to begin the summer slump.

Same question here. It's been 4 days since the images eligible went in for review. Is there any date we should expect some extra bucks?

Thanks!

You'll be the first to know! As per the terms, it will happen within 30 days.

Thanks for your patience,

Mat Hayward

Adobe Stock / Re: Vertical Video at Adobe Stock
« on: June 29, 2022, 11:55 »
Or maybe this is because I'm submitting on the french Adobe Stock contributor site ?... ???
Well after taking a look on the 'technical requirements' page, it is still recommended to "Avoid vertical or square framing" for video contents.
Too early to start uploading I guess...

That page you reerenced will be updated shortly with the updated informaiton on vertical videos. If you submitted vertical videos and they were rejected for technical reasons, it was not because you uploaded them in vertical format. What were the file numbers? I'll be happy to take a look for you.
