i've included photocase in the top five, as other. they're a solid performer, also german. the only problem is getting photos approved, less than 10% for me.

Maybe they started at the letter "A" and haven't gotten to "P" yet? Like I said, not a one! Every photo of mine on ThinkStock says iStock. Nothing of mine is under Hemera. I did a search for Hemera then search only this collection for "my name".
I'm sure others will look and see what they had moved, or not moved. It's not the same as if I had identical photos on both sites, some were never uploaded to IS. I suppose I can go cross reference and submit them all and hope? Oh wait, we can't submit to ThinkStock can we?
Maybe they were all refused? Maybe some reviewer looked and said, looks like most are dupes, "next please"
Let me put is in a simple way. Not One Photo Moved from StockXpert to ThinkStock?
Still searching hemera all I see are AbleStock.com, Photos.com and PhotoObjects.net. None marked stockxpert.com
Could you link to one photo so I can see how they are spelling it and listing them? Thanks
i searched under my real name, first and last, in quotes (" "). it starts with s, not a. with that search, all my images from both the "istock" and "hemera" collection show up together, about 135 in total, which is more than what i have at istock, but less than StockXpert. if you are not aware yet, the StockXpert brand is now the "hemera" brand. to encapsulate, we're no longer searching under pseudonyms, only real names.

Worked for me but I had to follow exactly what they said. Not my account name but "first last" as I was registered on StockXpert which showed all my IS images and no StockXpert images.
Not one image moved? That's odd because I had many different images on StockXpert and IS.
[/quote]
i have about 1/3 under the istock brand and 2/3 under the hemera (StockXpert) brand.

Only people who subs at StockXpert were/will be transfered to thinkstockphoto, right?
only if you wanted to partner with the deathstar and opted in. i wanted to see what it's like before passing judgement.

over 80% of my StockXpert portfolio is at thinkstock right now. i'm also a is member.
Your nickname starts with letter 'A':-D
not my real name. you need to do a search based on your real name in quotes.

The hemroid collection doesnt have many pictures, 180,000 and the forum on StockXpert has many people asking why their photos are not moved, just IS photos. Remember the transfer with duplicates how they would take your IS photos but we are no thank you for supporting StockXpert because your photos are only going to come from IS. I don't see one StockXpert photo on tinkstock from any IS members. We just get ignored and lied to.

So did IS just buy them to kill them? Or did IS buy them for the free images site?
I will never understand this
i think they killed two birds with one stone. they now have the "hemera" collection, consisting of all StockXpert images (those that opted into partner sites) in their new thinkstock subscription based website. they also effectively killed the stockexpert brand.

there's an angel reviewer at stx, right now, who just approved 10 photos, immediately. i can't guarantee he/she will still be there, for the last time i followed up an immediate approval, my next batch sat for three days and 60% were rejected.
can we say this is the luck of the draw?
10 minutes later...yep, he's gone, my next batch will probably sit for a few more days now.
Same here. Just had a small batch approved before I finished categorizing. :-)
...and he's back! 20 approved in 15 minutes. hope he'll be here the entire day for you guys.

I assume they re-review the full size image once they show interest...?
sigh, i haven't reached that stage yet. but, yes, that seems to be the case. the initial selection is all about aesthetics, not necessarily quality. i don't send anything typically stock to them. you should check out the getty flicker collection to get an idea.

Question: Minimum upload size is 3MP. Are most of the applicants uploading only 3MP for consideration or is it necessary for the editors to see the whole works?
I'm asking as the images that are being submitted to the group are public and available for download...
As I would try to apply with 10 of my bestest shots I have ever created you could assume that many people would be interested in those images (especially if they are uploaded in full res).
Sounds scary.
not to worry. you can cover your entire photo with copyrights and/or reduce the image down enough so it's only visible to the naked eye. but, it must still convey to the editors the beauty and saleability of your photo. it's only after selection, does your photo have to be 3mp+, with mr and free of any other blemishes. i normally downsize to 800x600, saved at ps image level 4.

i would support your thesis, gostwyk, just by the # of private lightboxes i have with my portfolio at is that do not have sales, but are purchased through subscription sales at other agencies. it's rare to get a private lightbox for a photo that isn't purchased elsewhere at some point.

My point of view is that there are 2 things going on at once. The first is cyclical- the economy goes up and down in cycles of prosperity and recession. I've been a photographer since the late 70's, and there are always good years and bad years. The commercial photography business tends to go into recession before the rest of the economy, and comes out ahead of it. So right now we are still feeling the effects of the recession. (BTW, most economists will tell you that the recession in the US ended last summer. It's purely a technical measure. Most of us would beg to disagree...) The other factor is secular- that is, it's a long term permanent change in the business. That secular change is microstock, which in terms of it's penetration of the overall market has a very long way to go. One of the new features of microstock is the ability to see whats going on in real time, to share information among photographers on a worldwide basis. There has never been a market that allowed this in the past. Because of that, sometoimes it's easy to get caught up in the day to day details. But take heart, melastmohican, you are on the right side of history. This business has a great future, and it won't be owned by getty. They will be a player, no doubt, but Shutterstock, Dreamstime, yes, even Fotolia, are assured a place at the table. Some of the smaller players may consolidate, get bought or fade away ( see crestock) , but the pie is getting bigger every day. Ironically, the recession has accelerated this change, as buyers are forced by budgets to go to less expensive alternatives. As one of my long time assignment clients told me the other day, " i can't remember the last time i commissioned a photo shoot. It's all RF and microstock now". It may look bad right now, but if I were just starting out, this is where I would be. It's where the action is. And spring is right around the corner!
wow, quite perspicacious for a first post. interesting for someone who's been through it all. in any case, hope you're right since i just started out...

good try, leaf...
those were amusing days, sjlock's uncensored swearing, the bewilderment, the befuddlement, the back and forth, wondering who'll end up there to keep you company...for once, people actually stopped talking about microstock.

wow, sales are just bopping here after a virtual stop over the new year's. got my first extra large sale, so can i attribute it all to the lower non-exclusive prices? so far, BME.

I know for sure Fotolia doesn't like nature, flowers and food: whatever I tried the last month: no luck!
try birds...i've done mysteriously well with a bird photo, in fact my first el ever on fotolia (unfortunately it doesn't pay much). they do like food though and some flowers.

Snappy, it sounds like you have a really interesting life! If I might make a suggestion, in addition to the excellent ones about improving your photographic skills, it would be to take advantage of the unique subject matter that your life in Japan offers.
Instead of wasting time trying to upload boilerplate subjects that everyone else has already done to death, why not photograph the beautiful landscape, architecture, local cuisine, and people (if you can get releases) in the area of Japan you live in? You could have your own unique niche!
good advice, lisa! snappy, where in japan are you? i did a summer abroad studying at ICU during my college years and also did a homestay in hokkaido. haven't been back since. good luck with your photography!

just a thought here...i use two separate isps, one connected via ethernet and the other through wifi. it's only the latter that i have a problem with on occasion. could it be that most of you having problems are connected through wifi or that could be the source of problem.
i'm totally technically challenged, so just throwing out a thought...

The real issue is the lack of infrastructure in Haiti. Despite having a population of 10M they have only one airport and that airport has only one runway. That means that one aircraft can land at a time which then has to be unloaded and take off, a process that usually takes about 90 mins, before the next aircraft can land __ about 18 landings per day is the capacity.
that's really interesting. at least, you've done your research. another good organization to contribute to is Partners in Health http://www.pih.org. i read somewhere that they're one of the few non-profits that have specific expertise with helping haiti in the past 20 years and also have an association with harvard u in terms of research. if you can't donate dineros, you can offer your photos as prints with this flicker benefit auction for haiti. http://www.flickr.com/groups/charityprintauctions/

amazing service, xpto! waiting for an invite to see what it retrieves for my work. i don't quite understand though...how can 123 list an image at $120, even for a large size? is that why my sales died there?

@Jonathan Ross,
Your portfolio is as good as it gets. Hands down, top class.
Your identity is well known (videos, conference speech, Jonathan Ross was there. Others were not)
Your images stand out from the crowd and speak for themselves. That is something that nobody can take away from you. No matter what, no matter who. Isn't that great? Untouchable, the work of a master.
Now go ahead and 'dare' do anything you want. They can't do a thing about it anyway. Best wishes,
yep, +1. if i dare say, his (macro) work makes yuri's look like kindegarden work. i bet this remark will keep this thread going for another year.

hi perseus,
i think you misread my message also. i think because you rarely get ft rejects, you don't know the different types that there are. there's the the quality of photo reject based on aesthetic consideration, the not needed photo due to too many already in their library and then this one where they actually compliment your photo as excellent. it's the first for me on this last one. so, i'm not dejected at all. i think others will know where i'm coming from.
how do you get your 100% approval? all people?
