Its good for the image thieves who can get their money faster before their account gets closed.
Apparently, there is a wait period for contributors from "high-fraud" risk countries.
Yep but as you can see from the FB group, its easily subverted. Someone opens 3-4 accounts, uploads some garden weeds. Waits for 2 months or so then piles on a ton of stolen content. Payout comes before the account(s) get flagged.

Also suspect its down to lower overall earnings from people.
Mine is still at the default of whatever . it was in 2010.

Fed up with that group. Half the people posting there have stolen images and have no shame. It's a reflection of SS's collection atm.
The only reason im on it is because i find it entertaining and a very rich source of image thief portfolios to report.

The Shutterstock FB group is full of people trying to game the system.
Here's one from today who is a (i) AS contributor and (ii) AS account holder offering openly to buy images of other contributors on request for a fee to boost search rank.
FWIW given his posts elsewhere its likely using stolen account credentials as he's selling LOTS of different things.
There are more and more of these types of post now.

I haven't done it for a while but i never heard anything back. Some accounts vanished, some stayed for ages. No idea if thats connected to the mails or not.
Thanks for the info. I just wondered if they would reply to the email or just process the information, but I'd never hear back. I bookmarked the account I reported, so I'll check it again in a few days.
FWIW i just heard back from them for an account i reported 3 weeks ago.

Adobe's mismanagement of AI is likely worse than Shutterstocks (!)

Without directly admitting it i think SS is in the process of transitioning from a media company to a big-data company. It no longer sees individual content as an asset, rather its all one massive data set for AI purposes.
More Shutter-Set than Stock.

Probably missing something obvious here but i don't see a Dataset opt in/out box in my P5 preferences page (?)
My port is entirely video if that matters.
https://www.pond5.com/my-preferences
Lower Left two boxes above [SUBMIT] ? "Make my content available for Dataset Earnings"
Unless it's not there for you.
Cheers, not sure how i missed it the first 20 times i read that screen! Im already opted out though oddly.

https://petapixel.com/2023/07/31/adobe-staff-worry-their-ai-could-kill-the-jobs-of-their-own-customers/Seems relevant to here. According to a report from Insider, Adobe employees are expressing concern that moving forward with AI technologies in the art space will cause companies to downsize graphic design departments, and one senior designer at the company says that is already happening.
The employee cites a billboard and advertising business they are aware of already made the move to reduce the size of such a team because of how effective Fireflys integration into Photoshop has become and that is still in beta.
The situation has gotten to the point that some Adobe employees are experiencing an existential crisis and are calling it depressing in an internal Slack channel seen by Insider.

Ethically there is no way the default search for images should contain AI.
It should be a setting a user has to physically switch on and the first time acknowledge a disclaimer about accuracy etc.
At the current rate they're just polluting their data set and absolutely killing genuine images.

Am i the only one bothered by the shiny, plastic face ? Looks like a tailors dummy. Or v1.0 Westworld.

Example here (Blurred hatchet job is me to hide my ID) but these are Firefly generated marine life and the prompt use.
Seahorse with its tail connected to its neck? Dolphin thats some sort of Orca? Reef shark thats a Whale shark with odd fins? 1 legged octopus. and so on
Dont think i'll submit this somehow.

OK and the latest insanity, got it for editorial of a temple (Japanese text). The rejection is: Translation Required: An English translation is required for non-English text that appears in content. For small amounts of text, please provide translations in the title field. Large amounts of text are not allowed in content. OK. So in my title field, just as requested i have "The text in the image translates to the name of the temple (<temple name>)". Submitted and yup, rejected for "Translation Required". Clearly there's no person in the loop to actually READ anything.

Im wondering if vas quantities of keyword and description spamming is coming home to roost to an extent.
Playing with Firefly to generate actual real underwater fish and animals and pretty much 100% of the time its the wrong thing. If AI has learnt the atrocious keyword spamming it'll be funny at least.

I'll probably reach it on December 31st
2 years running now ive reached Level 4 on videos after 6pm on the 31st December.... Also lost out of free Adobe all apps by roughly 3 downloads in the year.

The gap between 5 and 6 is huge for both photo and video.
Suspect most on there are the big image farms or Blackbox etc.

Ive started seeing these (when its not asking for a translation required on an image of ocean waves).
Im opted out of data and despite having several images rejected (sorry "approved") for data licensing, when i try to view my data catalogue it appears empty.
Are you seeing your "rejected" images appearing in there?

"Thank you for your message. We are unable to take action on your report: The asset you allege is infringing has an earlier upload date than your asset.
I dont like that criteria at all. Its fairly normal for us to upload something onto some stock sites and then not onto another until later. Anything from bandwidth restrictions, re-keywording, review delays and so on. An earlier upload date does not mean its definitely the original image.

Illustrative editorial or actual?

In addition, you can now submit photo-realistic generative AI images as asset type photos, i.e., content that looks as though it could have been created by a camera, as long as you check the box that it was created with generative AI tools.
What security checks do you have in place to prevent people simply uploading photo-realistic AI and NOT ticking that box? Anecdotally from various FB groups, a lot of people are already doing this. Some agencies are catching some of the images. Im not sure AS fully understand the scale and future scale of the issue here. Relying on outright honesty of contributors isnt going to work.

Problem means the time is coming where P5 gets absorbed and becomes a system where you can no longer set a price and receive pennies.
