Hey, they're in love with the RED camera. All I'm saying is rent one and compete. Or not.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock select vs. Shutterstock.« on: December 05, 2018, 15:02 »Its more the finding of those locations. Thats the hard part. Hire some some models, book a location, rent a RED camera for a day, shoot 8 hours of footage, chop it into 30-second bites. One day gives you 960 clips. A month of that gives you tens of thousands. (If you're not picky.) 304
General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock select vs. Shutterstock.« on: December 05, 2018, 14:50 »
But these people are "Select" because they use a RED camera, not because they have nice locations. Honestly, I think a lot of other people's footage is nicer, but they don't use the RED camera that has Shutterstock so starry-eyed.

This is why I never look at other people's portfolios. Disheartening. One of their select contributors rents out his RED camera. Maybe find out how much he's charging? Just an idea. ![]() 306

I knew their explanation was doublespeak. They've been secretly working with videographers and planned all along to push them to the top of search results. I wonder how many invited photographers and illustrators they're secretly working with now. Happy holidays!

The bottom half of page one and almost all of pages two and three (plus the top of page four) in most popular search. Tell me this is a "glitch." https://www.shutterstock.com/search?searchterm=super%20santa&sort=popular&image_type=all&search_source=base_landing_page&language=en&page=2§ion=1
Note: I don't mean to denigrate this illustrator in any way. The illustrations are great. Just pointing out another instance where SS floods most popular in a category with work from one person. 308

Anyone who doesn't believe Shutterstock manipulates search to favor some contributors over others is drinking the kool aid.

General - Stock Video / Re: "Crossroads" on Shutterstock« on: November 24, 2018, 17:57 »Sorry Shelma,Could be. Or it could be a videographer they want to work with. Or their algorithm could just favor contributors with the lowest royalty rate, which seems most likely. That way Shutterstock maximizes profits, because they keep more of the money made from each sale. I assume you're being facetious, since it seems you have 645 photos on Pond5? And you create youtube videos advising people how to create still images for stock sites? 313

But I would assume most footage contributors also contribute still images, so their royalty rates would be different for those. And since still images sell more than footage, the algorithm would still benefit Shutterstock. 314

I doubt their search engine has been hacked. Illustrators have been noticing this for a while now. Newbie ports are pushed to the top of the search and established contributors work is pushed back. Ive seen many instances of newbie ports suddenly taking over the entire first page of search results. But when I say it people laugh and make jokes about conspiracy theories. Now youre seeing it with footage. So now you see what I see.

Shutterstock.com / Re: ...tonight, SS search engine isn't functional...« on: November 15, 2018, 17:43 »
I had the issue briefly, then it returned to normal.
With the upcoming holiday season, I'm reminded of the good old days when Shutterstock used to send Christmas cards to their top contributors...showing appreciation for their work rather than suppressing their sales to please investors. The good old days, when the site worked flawlessly almost all the time, they had standards for accepting work and if you did good work you made it to page one in the search results because buyers could actually find your stuff. I feel so old and tin-foil-hatted now. 319

Image Sleuth / Re: Dodgy As Portfolio on SS« on: November 15, 2018, 10:12 »
He copied me, but not exactly, so SS will do nothing.
However, in the first example it's clear he downloaded someone's illos and just placed one on top of the other (bodybuilder), so SS should remove that one, at least. 321
Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock's upload just got better« on: November 13, 2018, 13:27 »
So far it hasn't allowed me to upload a file because it found an "unexpanded pattern," though the elements I used are in other files and have no patterns in them...I checked everything several times and re-uploaded several times, then finally gave up on that illustration. So I guess it's good and bad.

Thanks for pointing out how gerrymandering, voter suppression and other Republican shenanigans lead to a government that represents the minority rather than the majority...even when Democrats win more votes (see Gore; HR Clinton; the current race for governor of Georgia).
