Computer Hardware / Re: Flatbed Film Scanners« on: March 07, 2008, 15:39 »
I'd also go with Epson, I've had several in the past and found them very good indeed. Digital Photographer magazine just ran a group test on three different film scanners and the Epson V700 came out on top. If I was upgrading I would probably go with the V700.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Please critique my image process.« on: March 06, 2008, 15:39 »
RAW files are just that, RAW. Keep them that way, don't go fiddling with your camera. I would suggest that saving from the RAW to TIFF would be a much better option. You will retain the 16 bit colour depth and the image want suffer any IQ degradation from JPEG compression, keep your image as a TIFF until you have finished your editing. I tend to archive both RAW and finished TIFF files and only save to JPEG for submission.

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Subscription Sales - Whats your experience?« on: February 29, 2008, 13:49 »
I've also seen a big drop in the size of credit downloads. During Feb '08 I hardly had any XXL, XL or V downloads, however, the majority of the subscription downloads were at these sizes, especially vectors - ouch!
This month I will see only 35% of my November earnings, despite increasing my portfolio by around 25% over the same period. 306
StockXpert.com / StockXpert Subscription Sales - Whats your experience?« on: February 29, 2008, 11:59 »
My $ revenue has been in free fall at StockXpert since Nov '07. It appears to be subscription sales eating away at credit sales. This month has been the worst:
Feb '08 subscription DLs = 45.8% of total DLs Jan '08 subscription DLs = 21.6% of total DLs Dec '07 subscription DLs = 20.1% of total DLs Nov '07 subscription DLs = 16.7% of total DLs Oct '07 subscription DLs = 2.8% of total DLs I decided not to opt out of subscriptions when they were introduced, now I am having second thoughts. What has been your experience? Has anyone seen a decline in revenue after opting out? 307

Zymmetrical.com / Re: Zymmetrical appears to deliver« on: February 20, 2008, 06:01 »
I think it's much better, a step in the right direction.
I don't think the images need to be as large and I find the different types of fades/transitions between images a bit too much, I think just one type would work much better. K.I.S.S. 309

Guess we'll go back to the standard slideshow.Zymmetricald, I'd lose those rotating images on the front page. It could be just my monitor but they're not smooth and I'm seeing jagged edges as they spin. I'll second that. Not very nice to look at. 310

Chode
If you don't upload your images you will have only 1 image in your StockXpert gallery. If you you upload 2000 and have a 50% rejection rate, you will have 1000 images in your StockXpert gallery. What have you got to loose? Nothing except $$$. 313

Cameras / Lenses / Macro Lens Choice« on: January 24, 2008, 04:45 »
I have a limited budget and I need a good macro lens for stock photography. I am considering buying a used lens from ebay. Does anyone have any experience with any of these lenses? I have a Nikon D80.
Tokina AT-X 100mm PRO D F2.8 MACRO Tamron AF SP 90mm f2.8 Di MACRO Sigma MACRO 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Assuming they will all sell for similar money, which one will give me more bang for my buck. The Tokina seller is local to me, so I can collect and minimize the risk of being ripped off. 317

Do they send mail about rejects ? In your 'My Images' section all images have a coloured dot/light in the 'OK' list, each one means something different: Yellow = Pending inspection Green = Accepted Orange = Rejected If you wish to know the reason for rejected images just hover your mouse pointer over the orange dot/light and the reason should pop up. 318

LuckyOliver.com / Re: doubts about LO« on: January 15, 2008, 15:08 »
Here are my figures from LO for the past 18 months or so.
Portfolio - 154 Views - 235056 Sales - 114 (including 1 EL) Received comments - 16 Given comments - 5 One file in particular has done very well for me with 208698 views and 54 downloads Who knows how it works. Make of it what you will, but as others have said, with such an easy upload system and a friendly review team, it's no hassle to upload. 320

StockXpert.com / Re: Another case of illegal use of an image« on: January 07, 2008, 11:22 »
Looks like a direct rip off to me. I would report it direct to StockXpert. I would also look for this image at other agencies and report it where relevant. Inspiration is one thing, this is just theft.

General Stock Discussion / Record Keeping of Stats« on: January 07, 2008, 08:58 »
I have been submitting to microstock agencies for over a year and as yet I have not kept any records.
2008 marks the year that I get serious with my photography, stock in particular and I wish to keep accurate records both for me and the tax man. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the best way to do this. I would like it to be software based and be able to track progress for individual agencies and again for all agencies together. I understand that Excel is the way to go, but where do you start? Any info would be very much appreciated as I'm a bit clueless when it comes to this type of thing. Thanks. 323

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Vector Price Restructuring« on: December 21, 2007, 04:57 »
Vectors sell very well at StockXpert, this price increase is good news.
I think the upload process is very straight forward with StockXpert, it's a lot simpler than IS. All you need is one zipped EPS and a JPEG (The JPEG is automatically available for sale), make sure you upload using the 'graphic' upload page, link is at the top of the photo upload page. I have had problems uploading ZIP files with Firefox, but IE works fine. 325
