Maybe they need the money more for those photogs who offered their content to the free library.. ;D
I'm also waiting.

I didnt want to comment until I checked my numbers and math.

Under the current prices my income based on the latest 100 downloads is as follow :

-   15 xl = 29.25
-   15 l = 24.40
-   21 m = 24.57
-   6 s = 4.68
-   19 xs = 7.92
-   24 subs = 7.82

Giving a total of 98.23 dollar.

Under the newly announced prices it would be as follow :

-   15 xl = 32.40
-   15 l = 27
-   21 m = 30.24
-   6 s = 4.32
-   19 xs = 6.84
-   24 subs = 7.92

Giving a total of 108.92 dollar.  Increase 11 %.

But here comes the big but lets take into consideration that the free section will have a negative impact on regular sales, I know for a fact the huge free section on 123 did and still does.

Lets take into consideration that there will be buyers switching to sub sales knowing that the L size is sufficient for their needs.

Lets take into consideration that there will be buyers that instead of a xl size will go for the l size , buyers from L size will go for M size, buyers from M size will go for S size, buyers from S size go for XS size.. to break even with their budget and the amount of pictures they need on a monthly basis.

Going exclusive with Fotolia is not an option for me, that would result in a decrease of income by almost 60 % (higher commissions are included in this math)  due to the lost income from other stock sites.

Conclusion I might consider myself lucky if my Fotolia income remains the same, however, I fear it will drop.

Just my two cents.

I remember very well what happened to my sales when 123 started with their free section.
My sales dropped like hell....
My prediction, same will happen on fotolia.  If a buyer finds what they need in the free section, why bother looking any further.
My guess is a lot of photogs will start donating their unsold content just for the 0.5 credit.

Adobe Stock / Re: how to keyword in the most effective way....
« on: February 12, 2009, 08:11 »
Searching for my images based on the first seven keywords reveals a lot of images in front of mine where the keyword is not even in the first seven order.

Normal, you can't know the first seven keywords of someone else picture, the keywords are sorted alphabetically...

The keywords are highlighted/sized by order...

Within a year of solid uploading, you should be averaging about $1.05-$1.35 per sale at Dreamstime once you factor in high level credit sales and subs.  It averages out pretty well.

More advanced contributors have an even higher commission per sale.

I have to disagree with you on that.  According to my stats the highest i ever reached after almost 4 years is 1.13 average.  I've had an average of more than 1 only twice in this period. This month is already down to 0,83 average, due to too much sub sales and level one images on lowest resolution.  I noticed that once an image reaches a higher level per picture sales become rare and those are downloaded most under subscription.

« on: February 12, 2009, 06:51 »
I keyword in photoshop, keeps the keywords in order i put them and have the seven most important in front.
This because the (ahum) emphasis on the search results should be better.

I make sure that in title, description and first seven keywords the same keyword appears at least one time, preferably two times.  Some sites include title and description as criteria for search results.  This should also result in better placement in search.

However i doubt fotolia's search engine and relevance works like that. Looking at the relevance on fotolia a lot of images are not placed by relevance that should be.  My guess is that inspectors give some kind of rating that influences the placement/relevance.

As for the seven first keywords, this no longer counts according to my experience.  Searching for my images based on the first seven keywords reveals a lot of images in front of mine where the keyword is not even in the first seven order.  So as to keywording for fotolia.. i'm in the dark.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Model release for X-rays?
« on: February 10, 2009, 23:44 »
Recently I did a shoot and used my own x-ray as part of some props. Does anyone know if I need to upload a model release for my x-ray? Thanks in advance!

Canstock will ask for a release for Xrays.

I agree - sales are finally picking up for me too.  A couple of those big FS credit sales pushed me to payout!  :)

Lucky you...:-)  I don't see any improvement yet.  Canstock is still below 1 % of my total earnings (0,66 % to be accurate)
Let's see how things go after the beta status.

Add to that an obligation for the user to stipulate how, when and where he/she will be using the image.

Reviewers are required to have a calibrated CRT monitor of high enough quality.

Anybody is obviously free to give such statistics... I have no problem with that, but all those ranking posts become quite useless unless they are based on a bigger data set.

Just my 2c  ;)

This problem was much worse before leaf implemented the 'speedometers' underneath people's icons.

what are these meters supposed to do.?.

I think it would be hard to agree on the big 4 :) For me it is SS,  FT, IS, and StockXpert. DT and 123rf, and BigStock are about the same for me, far behind.

I'm often quite surprised to see such ranking based on a so tiny data set: statistics are significant and become useful only when enough data are taken into account.

In your case, you say that DT is "far behind " IS. You have only 9 downloads at IS and 6 at DT and you are correct: you have 50% more downloads at IS compared to DT... but it corresponds to only 3 downloads!

Anybody is obviously free to give such statistics... I have no problem with that, but all those ranking posts become quite useless unless they are based on a bigger data set.

Just my 2c  ;)

I totally agree here.. ;D

« on: January 13, 2009, 11:47 »
Opted in back almost 2 months ago... still not a single sale, instead more subs on StockXpert, considering opting out back for final.

Patrick.

Not sure if this info will help your decision, Patrick, but I opted out last week because of the reporting bug(again), and my StockXpert sales are still very slow.  I expected a big uptick in PPD sales there and this week that is not happening.

Hi Lisa,

I'm still undecided, i'll give it another month or so... If sales stay poor or non existent i'll opt out final.  I'll also disable subs at StockXpert by that time if i decide to not participate anymore in photos.com and JIU.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Were you Happy with 2008?
« on: December 27, 2008, 20:31 »
i am happy with 2008

my plan was to build a second portfolio with 5.000 food-pics, which will earn me 500 Euros a month.

I only get 4000 accepted ... but it is ok. because they earn on fotolia and shutter mor than 500 a month.

My plan was to dobble my earnings... but i tripple them... thats great.. but i think the agencies make not more money the more images i have... so i will see what 2009 will bring

Are you saying you have more than one portfolio.. more than one account.?..

General Stock Discussion / Re: Do HDRs sell?
« on: December 27, 2008, 20:21 »
The best method to make HDR is to take a minimum of 3 different exposures... 5 is better.  Do the blending with a good program.
Patrick H.

Do you use auto bracketing for multiple exposures or is it possible to adjust the exposures manually as well?

Never, never use auto .. do the bracketing yourself.  As stated, choosing the exposure yourself you have full control over noise.
A good HDR is all about exposures, combined, don't let any program take over.
In the days of film the most amazing HDRs were creaated in the dark room... not only with one slide.

Bummer... I expected to see which sites all the experienced microstockers thought were "up and coming."  Most of these posts are about the "already theres."   ???

Any ideas on which of the "not big six" sites might make a move in '09??

Simply, there are no up and coming sites that deliver... never will be.
The market has been taken.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Do HDRs sell?
« on: December 27, 2008, 11:29 »
I have another HDR, but it's made in software that simulates HDR. So, I wanted to ask you guys, what you use for HDR? Do you really make several photos with different exposures or you use some software that simulates HDR. Also, I wanted to ask how do you avoid noise when making HDR?

The best method to make HDR is to take a minimum of 3 different exposures... 5 is better.  Do the blending with a good program.
When using just one picture and let program decide on exposures/automatically you will most probably end up with a noisy picture.
Doing it yourself you have full control over noise.  As a reviewer i seldom see good HDR pictures.  Almost 95 % are loaded with noise.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Favorite Up & Coming Micro Sites
« on: December 27, 2008, 11:23 »
My top 3 sites are bringing in about 85 % of my stock earning each month... SS, DT, FT... the rest is split between 6 others.

Starting januari 3 of the low performers will be dropped, stop uploading. On Featurepics asked for deletion of entire portfolio.
