And this is why some contributors don't take forums or boycotts seriously. It invariably slides into contributor versus contributor instead of agency. What other people do is their choice, and this kind of garbage helps no one.

Some contributors are morons, so Im not going to take the SS boycott seriously. Really?

I used to buy single images from 123RF a year or so ago. But most all the agencies have treated their contributors poorly, so in microstock, Im not sure one is much better than the next.

So far I am better off with the new price structure of SS, in spite of many 10 to 17 cent sales.

Why should I boycot SS or even close my account? Why not accepting the 10 cent sales? I do, and I dont care what will happen next year, because nobody can forsee the future.

Actually, we can foresee the future. On Jan. 1, whatever level you are at, you will go back to the bottom level. So will most every other contributor. So you will make even less pennies per image. But apparently YOU are special, and you will make even more money overall. 👍

304
Do a google search of your name.

305
If clients got comp images to use in projects, and now they want to buy licenses, yes, SS will sell them. Its in the agreement.

306
How can it be dead? There are over 322 million files online. 4 million more than just a few days ago.

Does all this blackout thing help at all? WHO is it that keeps uploading, and WHY do they do it? I'm getting so frustrated here. I don't see Shutterstock losing anything at the moment. The amount of files should be decreasing instead of increasing........

You shouldnt be worried about whether it will hurt SS. You should be deleting your port because your images are worth more than 10 cents! And if you dont delete and move on, next year you will be making 5 cents an image. Or a penny an image. Do it out of self-respect. Do it because its hurting EVERYBODY! (And when I say YOU, I dont necessarily mean YOU personally. I mean anyone who thinks the same way as you.)

It doesnt matter how many millions of files there are. If buyers only see crap in their searches, they will go elsewhere. Lots of people are worried about the wrong thing. But I suppose some watch those numbers go up and use it as justification for staying. 😟

Yeah I know, it's just the spy stuff that got me sidetracked.  8)

Since I'm not on FB and I don't read all the tweets and I didn't join the group, just because I don't follow FB, nothing else. What was the name and why was it blanked out? Public service, public posts, I'd see nothing wrong with including their name. I only gathered it was a she from one of your posts? Makes me wonder who that was.

Not sure why he blacked out the name. Her first name was Svetlana, dont remember the last. She claimed to work for FB, but then her arguments were strange. Anyway, what she was saying made it seem like she was pro-SS/FB, hence the spy speculation. You had to be there. 😀

Thats disappointing about africastudio. In the end, everybody can be bought for a price. Im sure it was all negotiating tactics between them and SS. Oringer has lots of toys to pay for.

Thanks, half the population of Russia is named Svetlana. (the other half is male)  ;)

About the censorship. I don't agree, but quoting from recent news:

Under current law, platforms are allowed to moderate anything they find "obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable. The DOJ, however, suggests that this standard is too vague and says the "otherwise objectionable" language should be removed from the law.

So for example, FB can find anything they want to be "objectionable" and remove it. Whether they are protecting a business alliance, the API which FB uses SS images, or something else, complaints, who knows what, I don't know. Apparently the first amendment doesn't apply to social platforms, unless it's someone trying to sue another person for what they post. But the platforms are not required to allow us to post, what they don't want and aren't actually liable for what individual users post.

You arent on FB anyway, you said. And yes, I know its a popular name. Its irrelevant.  ;)

A joke about the name Svetlana but apparently you don't understand humor. And yes it is my elephant.

Duh, no Im too stupid to understand humor. But then you know that. 😉😂

A better idea is to not play games. Delete your images at SS and close your account.

Nice idea but at the moment a lot of people cant afford to ditch a few hundred/thousand dollars a month just to make a point as there's very little work or income elsewhere for photo or video related jobs!
And most people *already* have their work elsewhere as well.

So a choice of a greatly reduced but still some income vs guaranteed $0 income from SS isnt a choice some people can make currently.

SS know this as well - their timing was perfect.

Those who need the money, wont play the games, will they? So it stands to reason I wasnt talking about people who need the money.

One comment, stock prices are driven by sentiment more than actual numbers. Masses have sold stock based on tweets, comments and some financial advisers comments despite the company being sound. SHUTTERSTOCK does NOT SEEM TO BE SOUND

Suggestions
1. We tag $sstk in all tweets about people leaving
2. Lets tag publications like the wall street journal, simply wall street, major investors etc
3. Highlight the crappy quality of content, share holders don't want to be holding a hollow company.
4. I'm not sure if the coalition can actively help, but reaching out to financial publications and explaining the issue could get an article out or change their financial recommendations

Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk

Most of that is being done. Jo Ann has been a rock star with tweeting. Kudos to her. And lots of others. Publications are being reached. But FB deletes any stories about SS (SS and FB are in bed together).

Payoneer / Re: Payoneer- Wirecard.
« on: June 27, 2020, 07:06 »
I gather there are problems with using Payoneer cards thanks to dodgy accounting, it seems, at Wirecard.

Does this matter to us?
Is it best to use Paypal for now, where possible?
Even just for Payoneer accounts where money gets sent directly into bank accounts?
Does anybody understand all this?

I use Paypal, but some countries dont use PP, so I think Payoneer is their
 only option.

Funny idea... (maybe)

Even with the portfolio disabled, it is still possible to upload new images and they are reviewed/rejected (I tried).

So, what happens if we all make bad images, with a lot of noise, underexposed, etc. and each of us uploads 1000 or more?
Their inspector (or AI) will be very busy with... nothing :D

Okay, I need a rest I know.

A better idea is to not play games. Delete your images at SS and close your account. Take your work elsewhere. Doing business with a company who has so little regard for you is a waste of your time and talent.

And actually, that already has been happening for months. The site was/is still being inundated with a lot of crappy images. Hundreds being uploaded at one time by one contributor/factory. SS doesnt care. The numbers on paper to shareholders matter. But buyers matter, too, and if there is nothing good to buy, theyll be gone. So will SS.

314
congrats this whole thread is useless

Not at all.

Ok, looks you are very happy with 10 cents, enjoy it! LOL too funny! 8)

Nope, you are wrong. I deleted all my images off of SS about three weeks ago. You?

Contributors are not slaves, not anywhere close. Using the word slave in connection with the boycott is only undermining credibility. Stop it.

316
Just hungry slaves! like people that upload to Istock an d Freepik to earn $0,001. I think a mouse click worth more that.

There we go with the slave analogy again. LOL too funny!

https://forums.submit.shutterstock.com/topic/100567-043-cents-video-yes-you-are-reading-it-right/

What does it take for them to wake up anyway? 0,01$? They rather continue complaining about it then take action? Do they have any self-respect? any value for their work? Any working brain cell left in there?
Their earnings are dropping so much soon they can't even use it as an excuse to stick around anymore. What will they do then, wait and hope for things to turn around at SS? chr.st!

It's because of this submissive mentality Shutterstock or any other company does whatever they want!

I don't blame Shutterstock anymore I blame them! and I do hope their sales will go down to 0,01$. Go for it Shutterstock, take everything they've got! They are too f.cking dumb anyway!

Even Jon himself said if you don't like it then take your content and go yet they still don't get the message.
I have never seen such a sad bunch of people in my whole life, beyond pathetic!
And they are supposed to be educated and skilled professionals/hobbyists. If they were new at this and don't have a clue yet then maybe it would be forgivable but these are experienced contributors for gods sake!

So to those who are still active at SS, stop whining and suck it up! you get what you deserve! now drop your pants and bend over!

I don't like to criticize people personally for their business (in)decisions, but I also don't understand why anyone would stick with SS after those sub dollar sales.

I guess it's what they call in poker "staying married to your hand", i.e. when you're holding AA but the board tells you you're beat anyway. You don't want to give up your precious AA, so you stay in the game against better judgement...Back to the case of Shutterstock: contributors don't like what they see, but after years of building their portfolio and enjoying good revenue, they find it hard to quit suddenly. So they stick it out with SS, disgruntled and disappointed, clinging to the false hope it'll get better. Hopefully, after some time most of them will see they're better off without SS.

I also think there are a lot of pie-in-the-sky-ers who think SS will come around and reverse their decision. That might have been true when the company was smaller, but now that billionaires and stockholders are involved, I cant see how (or why) they would.

I'm unemployed and deactivated my portfolio. It hurts, but it has to be done.

Im retired now and was really hoping to have this as additional income. Id have more time to shoot and upload. It isnt even worth the time at ten cents an image. 38 cents was already bad. To me, no, 10 cents isnt better than nothing. And I live in the US, so no, not cheap living.

A post on the Coalition FB page says Africastudio is reactivated again and images are coming back online. Looks like they may have used us little guys and #boycottShutterstock to negotiate themselves a sweet deal. 😡

I just went to my page ok. On ipad.

Hello, thanks for your collaboration.

If you are an Administrator of this forum, check in the Permissions Panel and Profile View. You have many comments and it seems that the registration does not mark the original date of your registration.
If you are not a Forum Administrator, there is a Bug in your profile.

Regards.

Nope, I had a glitch and Leaf restored my profile as best he could, so some numbers will be off. I have been here for years, but my profile looks like it was just created a few days ago. I am not an admin. But thanks for the heads up. 👍

I'm really not at all au fait with Twitter, but it seems that several people have retweeted one of my tweets in reply to his original one after he blocked me.  8) (Presumably blocking someone doesn't delete their posts?) He's really on the back foot.
Man-child?
He's sounding more and more like the US president. ::)

Oringer and Pavlovsky both.
