Istock is a horrible site for my self-esteem. I've submitted about 13 photos I think. Only one accepted. Not even the images I was approved with were accepted. That one image that was accepted has sold 60 times in 40 days. It will likely have a flame in a couple weeks which I find hugely embarrasing because it leads to a portfolio with only one photo! I'll check my stats and my one photo has had 10 more sales... I'll be inspired to toss a couple more in the mix and be shot down again.
It sounds like I'm complaining... but I do really respect their integrity. I just have to suck it up. Get over it. Take better photos. From my experience with one solitary photo, it looks like it's worth the extra effort required.

You're welcome! It's one of those photos you never forget - such vivid colour. I remember snooping through this portfolio once and there were quite a few poses. I got lucky in the search the first time looking for it!

How much is an EL worth on SS? Does the new raise effect the price at all?

I've had one on DT and one on FT. The photo on DT has only sold one other time there so getting an EL is quite a reward. At DT you get a nice chunk of cash too - $25. I was still under 100 sales at FT and only got I think $6.60. Haven't sold any since I hit 100.
Both of the EL's were likely used for educational brochures perhaps. They were model released student in a classroom setting. I'm making a very uneducated guess here, but I think that the more specific the photos to a certain industry or category, the better the chance of an EL.
I'm afraid we all likely sell dozens of photos that SHOULD have EL's, but aren't purchased accordingly.

I see this morning that I've had a download two days in a row. I've had 5 downloads in April so far - out of all time total of 13 sales, so almost half of sales (since the first one in January) have been in this month, which isn't over yet. Sure, my little portfolio is gradually growing - very gradually which has an effect - but if these small numbers reflect the bigger picture, the momentum over at LO must be picking up.

I don't have a large portfolio, so I'm not the best person to contribute to these conversations, but I always find Fotolia a bumpy ride. Several days of good downloads followed by several days of no sales at all.
Also, it seems that I sell almost as many files as at DT, but $ are considerably less. I'm not sure why - but it seems that a vast majority of my sales at Fotolia are for the smallest resolution as well. $ don't add up very quickly.
I find their website very slow and cumbersome. I hope this doesn't chase buyers away to the other sites with pages that load in a fraction of the time. Unless of course, they go to DT where we make more:)

Just wondering... Once you enter The Sideshow the image isn't removed from the regular search is it? Does it still appear in both places and rotate through The Sideshow?
I definitely like this feature - I may never have enough sales to participate though. Once LuckyO takes off, and I believe they will, I fear The Sideshow will become overpopulated though and it will be difficult to float to the top of a search though. Hopefully these images are still be in the regular search.

Hey Tom, I saw that too... if anyone is wondering it wasn't DT by the way... and there were pages and pages and pages of them too with different models appearing in the newest category. I just wanted to browse, got a bit of a creepy feeling as I advanced. Musta been someone new and uploading their whole portfolio.
I agree that there should be a filter - I almost sent a note to the admin, but wondered what good it do. I can't imagine that most stock models would want their nudes to be frequented by young boys, etc.

Isn't it a little creepy sending a model's drivers license and address along with her nude photos?
These photos of mine would fall under this category then also?

I've posted this release before, but couldn't find the thread. I put Istock's language into a word document. Just add your own info. Should print on one page for you. The top is a table where I have my own logo and my address on the other side. Just delete the table if you don't want to do that.

Oh, and how rude of me. What I was going to say is CONGRATS - it's good to be on SS.

I have been on SS for 27 days, have I think 14 photos there, yet have 252 sales (27 days!). I'm finishing up a real job this week so hopefully I'll be able to prepare a large number and submit them maybe 1 or 2 a day soon.
I was accepted at Istock shortly after and I sent 6 photos that had just accepted at SS... Bet no one is surprized that 5 of 6 of those SS photos were rejected for overuse of noise reduction. Ah, the games we must play. My hard drive is getting confused by all the different versions.

DT says it is an agent. They are your agent. Normally an agent goes looking for work for you while you focus on your craft. That is what we are paying them to do. They are not paying us, they are taking commission from us. They work for us. They have an obligation to treat us fairly. Agents for talent, sports, art, etc... are also negotiators. I would love to believe that we are all treated equally. Realistically, however, I do not have a favoured nations clause in my agreement (i.e. if one of my peers gets something, I do too). I would also assume that all agents in whatever business look after the "Agency" first. If the agency fails how does that help us? Compare it to sports. A NHL team can sign a multi-million $ superstar while they have several players earning minium league wage (albeit a GOOD one). The superstar will hopefully take them to The Cup extending the revenue weeks for the season. They sell more tickets throughout the season. They sell more t-shirts. They sell more popcorn. The other teams in the league sell more tickets when the superstar plays there. Is this guy a superstar? I don't know - I personally respect the portfolio. It's at Lucky Oliver, I'm not sure where else. It's a considerable number of photos. Shouldn't the agency Dreamstime do everything it can to get the superstar in its own stadium? Bring the ticket buyers who will come looking for a bulldog on a green background and purchase a penguin and a vintage car while they are there?

Any agency would be CRAZY not to make special allowances for a portfolio like Iofotos. Such a portfolio could attract new buyers - who will purchase credit packages, and hopefully spread the wealth.
I don't understand everyone's obsession with this topic - but I do understand that everyone must be left in a holding pattern for approvals while the reviewers inspect Iofoto's photos..... and from the looks of things they still have over 1000 more to come....

It's a holiday here in Canada as well. Unfortunate Americans have much fewer public holidays.
Hey Sharply, where are you? I'm in Winnipeg.

They just added a library! Woohoo!
I think it's worth uploading to. I make roughly $130/month. It ranks 6th for me.
Thanks for this info. I finally went back, placed releases in the library and started to push a few through again. Nice to see my 10 limit has been removed too.

Well, I have about 90 images sitting there to be finished and no iptc data arrived with them. I'm having a nightmare uploading model releases. Don't they have a library or am I missing something? It seems to work when I have just one, but when I need a few releases it dosn't want for work.
Darn, I've made $1 so I'll have to stay for at least $29 more.

I just signed up with other sites and am quite surprised with the numbers. I have 133 photos on Dreamstime, 14 (since mid-month) on Shutterstock, and just 1 on Istock...
SS - 38.5% (half month with only 14 photos!!! WOW) DT - 37.5% FT - 14.7% IS - 5.3% (just accepted, only 1 photo live) LO - 2.9% BS - 1%
I think this tells me that I better spend a little time this week at Istock and Sutterstock...

I get one sale about every three or four weeks. I don't think I'll be cashing in any time soon. But, good news, nonetheless. I know there will be a lot of happy carnies out there.

I've really been interested in "community driven" businesses lately - I think there is potential billions out there with the contributors doing all the work. Microstock - Flickr - Cafe Press - YouTube, etc. If I could just program!
LEAF, the thought has crossed my mind several times that you should start up an agency. You certainly know everyone.

The curse of the "dead" thread.... Ever since I was raving for DT on the 16 I haven't had a single sale since the 16th... What did I do???!!!

Yes, that's my boy! Nice to know that you can trust the referral side of things... I hope it's not restricted to a 6 month deal or something though and here I finally got back around to applying 5 months later! After first 24 hour results I've been kicking myself wondering why I didn't try again sooner!
