Aww shucks.  :)  I guess I'm just jealous of all those people that create those quadruple blue flame images at IS. But, I have a lot of fun doing my own style and the money isn't bad either.

Well, you can't take it out of circulation, since you've already sold it.

If they're willing to pay 2 grand for a ( photo or illustration ?) you lucked out.

Yeah, really. If I had more clients like that, I'd spend a lot less time working on stock. Most people that contact me don't even want to pay 2k for a children's book.

Up now.

Tell them 1 million dollars and one of their kidneys. Then give them my email address to get a cheaper quote.  ;D

I'm kind of surprised more people don't look at earnings projections. I'm not talking about frittering your whole day away with statistics. Just a simple, if I upload x amount of images here, I should make this much. I set target goals for each agency that I upload to.

I can understand why an exclusive wouldn't worry about it too much. They are only dealing with one agency. Although if my RPI dropped well below $1 as an exclusive, I might start thinking about dumping the crown.

3206
time to come out with a newer, harder to copy style....

Not me. Nobody would bother to copy my stuff. I'm not a home run hitter.  Just base hits. :D

3207
Yep, it happens. Probably not as much on IS, but on SS it seems to happen quite a bit. These images get on to the free pirate sites and it is open season. There is actually a thread now in the SS Illustrator forums about this. You are probably safer with 3D, but there's always someone out there trying to make a quick buck on someone else's work.

And the million and one glossy buttons, Apple-esque silos, swirly Xmas tree or whatever style is in vogue this week.

3209
If you are an illustrator and if you developed your own style, it's hardly possible to get successful copiers.
Except when people download your vectors and and use bits and pieces of them and reupload them as their own.  :-[

Speaking of A, B or C being broken, did anyone else notice that uploading was deactivated? I know they were having some problems with the categories, so I assume that's the reason.

But, like Sean, I don't give a lot of thought to RPI.  If I did I would have probably hung myself by now ;)

Maybe you should. Keep track of RPI. Not hang yourself. I reread this and it sounded bad.  ;D

If you have a 20% decrease in your RPI on 6000 files, you would make less than you would with the higher RPI and 5000 files. Say you add in a 10% little slump to that and you could lose another couple hundred dollars a month easy. If you don't keep track of RPI, how do you know what you should expect to make?

any bigstock guys out there? isn't it important to make something for vector uploading that can read IPTC from preview jpg? the only 2 agency that don't read IPTC, bigstock and istock.

I am uploading some vectors and i have to sit hours and hours just to copy and paste IPTC from my jpg.

Don't forget about Canstock and Fotolia (if you still upload svg files). I think it is pretty much par for the course that vector uploading gets the short end of the stick. It must be a fairly challenging technical problem because a lot of agencies seem to have trouble with it. Dreamstime can't seem to get a system where you can FTP both at the same time. Most of the build your own stock sites, like Clustershot, don't even offer vectors. I've come to just expect it to be bad and hope that I'm pleasantly surprised when a vector uploading system is easy.

Yep. We haven't changed anything on the search results page in six or eight months.
That doesn't include the "secret" changes, right?  ;)

I wonder if they will roll out their canister change with this. I haven't heard about that for a while.

Not sure if folks noticed in the Dash for Cash reminder email that went out yesterday - but we've doubled the weekly submission limit for the final 2 weeks of the program. Raised limit is active in your account now.
Go for the 400.

I noticed it too, but I thought it was a bank error in my favor. :) I guess it was on purpose. Thanks!

Hopefully, they don't mess up fall sales too bad with all the bugs.

3217
Yeah, royalties fluctuate a lot there. I'm just happy when it is above a dollar.  :)

^^^ I thought IS weights the keywords based on with what keywords the image was found/bought bumping that image up in searches based on that keyword (i.e. a relevancy factor).
That's what "the man" wants you to believe. The truth is much more sinister.  Now if you'll excuse me, I have some tinfoil hats to make. ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: No freebees!
« on: June 15, 2010, 19:01 »
I'd agree that in certain situations I think free is okay for stock photography but only when it's a direct incentive to buy. Buy 10 images, get one free. 10 free images when you buy a $200 credit package.
I guess this was kind of my point. There are some incentives to freebies. Although like most people above pointed out, it probably doesn't make much sense for microstock because we get paid such small amounts. Just thought I'd play devil's advocate.  :D

Obviously, I'd rather sell things, but I don't think the concept of free is all that horrible. It really depends on how it is done. If they gave away small web images that were specially watermarked with the agency and artist info, that might work as good advertisement. Then, clients would pay for the upgrade like a non-watermarked image or a larger size. I think that is what most of the "free-conomics" business models are based on is buying the upgrades. I'm not sure if any of the stock agencies free sites work like that.

Hmm... It could be a summer slowdown, but I can't really blame it on new images. Out of my last 20 downloads, 6 were first time downloads (It may be more than 20 though because of the way the downloads are listed). In the argument against a summer slowdown, FT and DT are doing pretty well for me this month.

It seems to be business as usual for me there, although my sandbox is a little different than yours.

Well, this thread certainly got a little... animated. I was mildly disappointed that they got rid of the end of the year payout, but I wasn't ready to take to the streets with torches.  ;D

Interesting take on it Paulie. It makes you wonder if the future holds more tiers and levels for images.

hi anyone uploading esp vector to bigstock? bigstock is the only agency that doesn't read IPTC from a jpg preview or accept a zipped vector with jpg.

It will take a lot of time to upload eps to bigstock, are everyone just do it manually? or i am missing something?

i read that to embed IPTC to eps but it doesn't work on my illustrator and it increase workflow just for bigstock in this case.

I haven't found a way other than doing it by hand, so if you find one, let me know.
