On my front page of "new images" I have now 20 pics with 0 views, except this one that's got 3 views and 1 sale: http://www.dreamstime.com/children-ready-to-race-thumb9628528.jpgWhen I clicked on the keywords the buyer used, it was clear that (s)he had changed to newest first, cause the picture is nowhere to be seen on the regular search, while on newest it was no.3. I don't know what other people should do, but I'll keep trying to improve keywords and pictures. I wouldn't mind if you all deleted all your files and gave me monopoly, but I don't really see the logic in why anybody would do that.

Thanks gaja for the thread. I found your question which was similar to mine. ie. submit an existing image from your port, then disable it when it gets approved for the assignment.
A pity they haven't done what the thread asked for and made the rules clearer in a FAQ or on the page where you go to upload for assignment. I think they would get many more exclusive images that way. Easily obtainable information is always important if you want to appear open and user friendly.

Only thing is I also like to submit the one that was approved recently. How do I do this? Do I need to resubmit the image and delete my approved one? Will it be rejected if I did that?
http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_16757I'm having my BME on DT now. No views, but plenty of sales. Tripple the number from May (which was very bad). Yes, yes, tiny portfolio, no good for statistics, etc, but very nice on a personal level.

There has been an announcement about a algorithm change too. It's in the thread about prize change. They changed it in favour of "quality", which basically means old pics with a lot of sales. Before this change there was a short spell where exclusives where heavily favoured. I'm probably seeing the effects of that period now, since I already have my BME this month. I think that most of my sales are from lightboxes, since the pictures that are bought usually are on page 13-14 on the saleday, but where on page 1-2 a week or two earlier.
May was horrible for me, but I think that is because much of my portfolio is oriented towards Scandinavia, and we have different holidays all through May.
I don't mind the cahnge in view counting, since many of the old viewers were non-buyers. But I would have liked to know how many of my pics have been added to lightboxes.

Thank you! It makes it much easier to know what to improve if I get concrete reason.

Saturday we had 30 deg C and sun. Monday it started raining, yesterday snowing, and today we have 5 deg and more snow. For next weekend they are predicting 2 deg C, so it might be below freezing in the night.
That's a Scandinavian summer for you. I was planning to take som pics of my kids enjoying the summer, now it will be more pictures of sad and dirty children in thick wool and raincoates.

you can claim the 5% against foreign income on your tax return (of course assuming you are not considered a hobby by the tax office, in which case then it is just lost, I think)
If you pay higher than 30% tax in your own country, I wonder if it is better to let them take 30% in the US and claim against it on your tax form? Does anyone do this now?
I would also like to know this. I guess each one of us need to call our local IRS and ask. I have another business so I dont care if I get 30% of micro at the end of the year.
I have no concern with the SS situation, but this I can probably give an answer to. I had income in another Nordic country one year. They taxed me in that country, I entered the foreign income and foreign tax in my Norwegian tax returns. I was supposed to get a refund, but got double tax instead. Very funny, the total tax was about 70%. If your local "IRS" does it correctly, you enter all you income, get a total tax, and withdraw the tax that has already been paid nationally and abroad. If they get confused, you have a lot of work in front of you. You will never get less than the normal tax level. In numbers: Income 2008: 10 000 National tax prepaid 2008: 1000 Tax paid abroad (country with exchange agreement): 2500 Normal tax level: 45% = 4500. Tax owed: 4500 - 1000 - 2500 = 1000.

To job no. 1 (teaching): 25 min/17 km To job no. 2 (teaching): 45 min/29 km + a ferry (15 min) To job no. 3 (photo) and 4 (internet based): a couple of seconds To job no. 5 (SAHM): 0, as they come crawling into my bed when they think it is morning.
I don't mind so much, as I enjoy driving, the routes are quite scenic, and there is not much traffic, but it is a bit much those days when I go to job no. 1 in the morning and job no. 2 in the evening (opposite directions), just having time to feed the kids and grab a cup of coffee in between. One day soon I'll plan better so I get time to stop and take som photos along the road.

I'm sorry. Tell me how a snap from an iPhone would assist in robbing the store? You couldn't just say "pssst... the atm is by the door!" An iPhone snap is hardly going to give you the technical know how to do a Terminator 2 style key code theft or something.
He took a picture of how the security people had opened the ATM, and the insides of the machine. That gives a lot more information than a pic of the exterior. I also think a lot of these guys prefer to not have their faces all over the internet, again for security reasons. "No thanks" is a typical reply from a snotty teenager who knows he has done something wrong. The guard was polite, there is no reason to refuse to talk to them unless you think you have done something wrong.

Disagree. Someone snapping a pic on an iPhone is hardly a threat to national security. I contacted REI and informed them we won't be shopping there until an apology is issued.
So criminals doing research before they rob ATMs don't use Iphones. Good to know. What do they use? Those cool pens with mini cameras you used to get for free if you subscribed to some cartoon magazine? DSRLs? Nikon, but not Canon?

On a side note: Leaf; I hope you are aware that you have broken the Norwegian law many times, and the proof is in your portfolio? There is a sleeping law here that says you are not permitted to take photos where it is possible to recognize the place it is from. It was made to prevent espionage before or during some war, and has never been removed. So theoretically, the police could arrest any and all tourists walking around with cameras. The guy in the link sounds like an *.

Gingko survived because it was a medicine plant, it has been cultivated for more than a thousand years, and does not exist as a truely wild plant. It was known only from fossils until it was discovered in a chinese monestary. The monks used the seeds so they would be able to pray for hours without having to take a bathroom break. So if any plant should have the label "Herbal medicine", it's this one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginkgo_biloba

You don't have to use a mouse. It is possible to buy a sort of pen and special board instead. They come in all price ranges, but the cheap ones are not very good.

Was this a n/a-sale, or did someone actually search for this pic?

What is correct: FlemishDreams', FlemishDreams's or some other spelling? In Norwegian we only use ' when in genitiv when the name ends in -s. Otherwise we only add the asses without tails.
And according to the forum codes I've been thaught, one should adress other participants of the internet forum in the exact way that person spells his/her nick. I'm sorry for writing FlemishDreams' nick with small letters, but would request that you all spell mine without large letters. Unless you're angry with me. Not that anyone has used my nick here, just mentioning it since we already are far out in the forest picking berries.

Now that's something microstock photographer's can sink their teeth into (besides you that is). Oh my, this is really becoming the Genitives Landmark Thread. That shouldn't be photographer's but photographers.
rofl. Maybe English is not their first language, FD. So here is a quick rundown of when to use ' ( apostrophe) and when to add an ass, i mean s to a noun.
Case of former is to indicate possession. as in Sean's comment; Yuri's avatar; photographer's teeth. Case of latter is to indicate more than one, ie. plural. Microstock photographers; batmobiles; flemishdreams.
Therefore, if you want to say flemishdreams possesses batmobiles, it would read as follows: flemishdreams' batmobiles or flemishdreams's batmobiles ; not flemishdreams batmobile's. You also use apostrophe to indicate the use of a contraction (don't, can't, shouldn't). Finally, to form the plural of lower case letter (watch how you roll your r's).
I always though it would be flemishdreams' batmobiles? But; how many batmobiles are there out there, and why has flemish bought them all?

What do you do to get the same light/exposure/white balance on all the pictures? Or doesn't it matter when you have photoshop?
And what would be best to do with the sun? Because this panorama stretches from east to west, so the sun will be somewhere over it unless I do a very early morning or very late night shot.

This is waiting right outside my kitchen windowfor me to photograph it; http://www.moldepanorama.no/ What would be the best way to capture these 222 mountain tops? I find a lot of tutorials and information on panorama photography, but what is your favorite?

"Because you will always deal direct with clients when selling images through Photographers Direct, we are non-exclusive. This means we have no restrictions on photographers selling the same images through other agencies. The only exceptions are microstock sites such as istockphoto, canstockphoto, shutterstock, dreamstime, bigstockphoto, crestock - we cannot represent photographers who market any of their images on these sites."
I think it's a good page to get inspiration and ideas about what buyers need. Guess there is a market for polar bears eating penguins, both for the buyers who better, and for the ones that don't. Could be fun making one, unfortunately I have pictures of neither species.

I know it sounds cruel, but I would delete all images that didn't sell 2 years or more, and I would implement an algorithm like TinEye in every site to block reuploading of old deleted images and for deleting duplicates. This way images that sell would stay online until nobody buys them 2 years or more, and poor images that didn't sell would be deleted. I know this is not directly connected with the reason "well covered" but I think it would be good for all. It would be good even for contributors who's poor images would be deleted.
I totally agree with you, although I think the limit should be 3 or 4 years, just to ease contributors into it. I also think it would be a good idea to delete some of those pics that really are too similar. Like 30 photos of the same pencil from the same contributor. Yes, it would require some resources, but it would pay out because it would make the site more appealing. Also it would solve some of the problems mentioned in the search engine thread.

My family are part of a small, but growing resistance movement. My husband goes to black metal conserts all easter, while I make sure the kids have some kind of infectious desease. This year I was hoping for chicken pox, but I think we only managed to get a simple cold with fever.
The exile countries are traditionally islands in the Atlantic (Shetland, Faroes, Iceland, Greenland), Normandy in France, or Russia. The later years we have also built colonies in Spain. So they should at least provide some good photo opportunities if it gets that far.
Well, happy easter to you all! Hopefully the buyers will have a big backlog and purchase like crazy next week.

I agree with Larry. It's the easter bunny's fault. In scandinavian countries everything shuts down between 3. April - 14. April because we have to go skiing. It's mandatory. You get exiled if you don't go cross country skiing and live in cabins in the mountains without water and electricity for a week and a half every year.

I got a "to many similars"-rejection today. It was an image that was already online that I had improved (fixed a crooked horizon etc). I wrote a mail to them about it and wrote a note to the editor about which pic it was meant to replace. Today the improved pic was in my reject list because it was to similar to the picture it was meant to replace LOL
