Compared to previous September:

2013: DL -35%  $ -38%

iStock Exclusive. Standard downloads.
For me, my DLs were down 46% and $s down 47% compared to Sep 2013.

Just brutal.

the price for new credits is between $15 - $16. It might be with old credits. Who knows?
The price for new credits is $8 - $15, and the $15 is only when you buy a single credit. If you buy 3 credits the per credit price already drops to $12. I wouldn't expect to get many (or any!) $15 credit sales.

But most of the sales I've been having have been with credits that were well below $8, so still mostly old credits being used up.

Happy to hear it.   :)

Unfortunately I can't help. But I can tell you that I installed that version without problems and I'm running Win 8.

If you don't get any help here, you might try posting on the IS forum. It seems like Franky's pretty good with helping people solve all sorts of DM problems, though sometimes it takes a few days for him to reply the first time.

Fotolia pays well for video??

My Very Best :)
KimsCreativeHub.com

Yes, they do.  They pay you 24 credits for 1080p video sales.  24 credits are about $36.  So, they pay more than Shutterstock on regular video sales!
I wouldn't go back to FT even if they paid me $50 for 1080p videos.

It goes occasionally, then comes back again. No worries!
Indeed. Because at the moment, mine is back, but yours is showing zero - ha! Someone's having fun with us.

I can see it and it is at about 10 o'clock. No need to panic.
But it used to be at 2 o'clock!  :o

Just kidding. Thanks; I see it's back, too. Weird.

I noticed this yesterday. I know it's meaningless, but I can't help it. I don't like to see my IS DLs meter sitting on 0.  ;D

Nothing has changed in my IS account, AFAIK. So why suddenly zero?

Edit: It isn't even visible in this post, for some reason?  :o

I haven't checked but isn't he video pricing about the same as SS? If this is true, buyers don't care.  It's the commission that we get that's the difference between commissions on SS vs. IS.  That's basically invisible to the buyer. I think the real root variance is commission level.  And by staying with IS we are accepting 1/3 to 1/2 of the commission SS pays.
An Essentials video costs 6 credits. Credits (without discounts, which are abundant) cost $8 - $11, so $48 - $66.

On SS, an HD (non subscription) video typically runs $68 - $74.

So the most expensive video on IS is still a couple of bucks cheaper than the cheapest HD video on SS. But your point is still mostly valid; it's the commission rate that really kills us.

335
Thank you...

I do value your opinion, but I will make my own choices, as and when I am ready.
That's all any of us can (should) do.  ;D

336
Exactly right, Jo Ann.

And I agree that RPD isn't what really matters, it's the bottom line. The pessimistic (but to me, probable) scenario is that buyers are dumping credits -- iStock credits -- and sales will actually continue the slow decline that we've been suffering over the last two years.

337
I'm not even leaving the clips that don't sell much, I will just leave one clip on the site.  Everything can sell and I don't want a buyer to buy something on istock when they could find it on another site that pays me much more.

Well, obviously that's your choice - but I don't sell many clips on any sites as a rule, and if iStock were to be able to continue selling my clips at the rate of two a week, even at these low payments, it would be no bad thing for me, provided it has no obvious impact on other sales of course.

So, while it's a concern, I'm not about to jump into any precipitate action.  I'll see how things develop over the next couple of months first.
By doing this, you (and any indie who remains on IS) are rewarding them for making these changes.  I don't think any indie should accept single digit (or even < $20) commissions for HD files. It's a slippery slope to support any such site.

It would take time, but eventually I believe many buyers would learn that indie clips are available on IS for a lower price than other sites. How do you benefit if IS pulls buyers from better paying sites? Do you really think you're going to sell 3x as many clips (just to break even by losing a single sale on another site) than you would by not being on IS?

The good news is, I think most indie producers are smart enough to see what is happening, and will pull their ports from IS. So buyers won't flock there after all, because there won't be a very wide selection of indie clips to choose from.  I hope I'm not giving my fellow indies too much credit.

someone on IS forum said it correctly....we will have to wait October and November regular sales to say if this was a good or bad move...actually doesn't look good  :(
As an IS exclusive, I don't have to wait. If sales pick up in October and November, they would have picked up anyway.

What I see now is what I will get: An immediate hit to my income of around 25%, on an RPD basis.  >:(

► Eighty percent of search results in key global markets are returned in under 3 seconds during core business hours on iStock, vs. 30% for Shutterstock
I really have to question the validity of that data; it's very hard to believe, based on what I've experienced.

Quote
► Video HD from $48USD compared to $79USD for Shutterstock
Well, that's wonderful; racing to the bottom in video? Good luck to IS with that, as I am certain that indie contributors will be pulling their ports en masse soon enough. I'm not going to stand for it, for one (like they'll miss me!).

With a less wide price-gap between Essentials (Main) and Signature, perhaps this change has been a bit more in favour of exclusive photographers. Still early days literally but sales do seem to have picked up a tiny bit for me.
It's still too early to know for sure, but I don't seem to be experiencing an uptick in sales. And my RPD is clearly well down from what it had been (with almost every sale being below the minimum of the range I had expected, so all old credits?).

I'm getting hit on both ends with this change, being an exclusive photographer and an indie videographer.  The only saving grace is that video sales for me had dropped off to such a level that they are more or less inconsequential.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Revostock has a new look
« on: September 17, 2014, 16:05 »
I think I'd really like to get paid.  ::)

I noticed a few bugs, hopefully they'll get them fixed quickly. In Firefox, there's no text in the filter buttons at the top. In IE, mousing over a thumb doesn't popup the preview window. A bigger problem in IE: Clicking on a thumb brings up the file's info page, but the large preview window is missing. Did they test this thing at all?

I forget what it used to look like, but I think it's ok. I'd have preferred a light gray background to white, and I don't like the fact that no part of the title is displayed. But the thumb mouseover preview is nice, if that's new.

We now have the new and improved "yuri" iStock. Simple. Cleaner. It was retooled to deal with Shutterstock's product offering and to win back buyers.

So, how do you think it matches up from a buyers perspective in the areas of price, selection, ease-of-use, price-package offerings, etc?

Did iStock get it right? Or no.

"... over 500,000 new images added every month ..."

No wonder they dropped almost all technical and aesthetic inspection standards.

I'm not qualified to answer how the new IS stacks up to SS.  I'm qualified only to see how buyers react. I hope sales start increasing, and the changes don't meet my expectations of an even bigger hit to my earnings than has happened since subs began. We shall see.

plus being able to choose what's popular this month, this year and for all time. I think that's a nice touch.
That feature was added a while ago (I'm not sure how when, but I noticed it myself a few weeks ago).

Istock is picking up considerably for me this week.

Does anyone else see the same?
Exactly the opposite in my port. Very few sales, almost all of which are S.

Interesting. I am definitely having a good week. DLs have been of all sizes and collections.
Well, enjoy it while it lasts, and good luck next week after the Big Change. I fear the worst, but hope for the best.

Displayed time is actually an account setting, under "Profile > Account Settings > Look and Layout". The default time seems to be US Central Standard Time.

This forum is on BST, iS's is on Mountain Time (AFAIK)

OT, but isn't this forum actually on YST (as in, Your Standard Time)?

For example, I am seeing this above:

But I suspect other people see other times, no?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: RC's not increasing in line with sales

I know no one cares, but RCs have yet again stopped updating.

The last change happened on 6 Sep, reflecting sales through 4 Sep (as near as I can tell).

But since they've already said no one will be dropping a level, only those few who might climb to the next level would GAD (if any actually exist).

349
Buyers will use up their credits in the next week or so while they're worth more.  Then, come the 15th, they won't have any iStock credits.  They won't have anything tying them to iStock.  If I was a customer thinking about changing my main source of stock photos, the 15th would be the day to do it.
It depends on the type of buyer you are, doesn't it?

If you are the type of buyer who mostly buys small sizes, then now is definitely the time to buy.

If you tend to buy larger sizes, especially L and bigger, it would make sense to wait until after the change. The files will suddenly be cheaper (in the case of XXXL files, much cheaper).

350
So someone tell me, is it official = now? Have the flipped the switch and 5 = 1 and no more sizes, and collections have merged Etc.

My last two DLs after the 2nd have been listed as large for $1.25 commission. This is better than the .44 for a small that I got on the 2nd.

Just like that, it's in effect now? Wouldn't we expect down time for the big switch? I didn't notice anything, didn't see the usual messages here "is IS down...".
From their posted FAQ:
When will these changes go live on the website?
We are planning a September 15th launch but changes may start to appear as early as September 13th. The site will require a limited weekend outage but you will be notified in advance.

I don't actually understand your confusion. Your last 2 DLs were L size for $1.25, and the previous sale was an S size for $0.44. Since an S is 2 credits and an L is 5, those royalties don't seem unusual to me.
