Thanks Mat. I'll just stick to C1 for now then. The day LR allows for manual ordering of keywords I'll be able to drop C1. I did some testing in the past and enjoyed using both classic and mobile LR but I still had to use C1 for keywording so it was just complicating my workflow using LR.

Here's hoping they'll allow it some day soon!

Lightroom does keep the order you add your keywords. They are only displayed alphabetically in Lightroom, the portal lists them in the order you add them.

-Mat

Interesting, I put this in the "you learn something every day" category. I had no idea that Lightroom stored the keywords in the file in the order they were put in. Of course here's a question: If I keyword the RAW file in LR and then generate a jpg in Lightroom from that file, will the keywords in the jpg be in alphabetical or the ordered I entered them in for the RAW file?

It should maintain the order of keywords as you originally listed them. You can actually upload RAW files directly from Lightroom and the JPG conversion will happen automatically to save you an additional step.

Adobe Stock / Re: Vertical Video at Adobe Stock
« on: June 27, 2022, 09:46 »
Hi Everyone,

In case you missed the livestream I hosted today, I wanted to share the link. For videographers specifically, you may be interested in considering adding vertical video to your portfolio if you haven't done so already (if you already had, you might want to re-submit, we explain why during the livestream). During the livestream I was joined by Tom Spota who is the Senior Manager in charge of motion at Adobe Stock. He spoke specs and subjects to shoot and I think it's worth a watch. If you only want to watch that segment, it starts at 13:39 and lasts around 15 minutes.

I was later joined by a fantastic sports cinematographer and photographer named Corey Jenkins who shared some very valuable insight into his career. Worth a watch in my opinion.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

recently (some months ago) I uploaded animations in square format which were refused because of the format not accepted at the time. Do you think they should be accepted now ?

Thx

Benoit

No, I don't believe so. Tom covers the acceptable resolution options during the livestream I had linked above.

Thanks for the question,

Mat

I can't be the only one that tinkers/optimises keywords offline in LR and then would like the ability to be able to batch-copy all of them to a particular, already accepted, image? I can't seem to find a way to quickly do that at Adobe, instead I'm left at entering keywords one by one - which I'm just not going to do.

Any suggestions, tips, tricks?

/Fox

Does Adobe LR allow you to rank, order keywords or is it still alphabetical?

Lightroom displays keywors in alphabetical order, though when you import into Adobe Stock, the keywords are reverted to the order in which you added them. It's not perfect, but it's an improvement over years past.

There is no way to do bulk edits to content that is online in your portfolio. I don't anticipate that ever changing for a number of reasons. You should really spend the time to get your keywords positioned properly and complete before you submit for review. If you are struggling with a high rejection rate which makes you feel you are spinning your wheels with keywording, that is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed.

Thanks again for the feedback,

Can't wait for results. Last year I got selected 54 from about 600. And my sales haven't suffered at all, I'm making about 30% more this year than last year.  This year I have eligible 451 photos.

One question, will this year also be more waves, or is this one time thing?

I can't say for sure right now with photos. I expect another wave with vector files down the road when the 12 month anniversary comes up for those. I'll be sure to post information when I have it available.

Thanks,

Mat

332
Many thanks to everyone who nominated eligible photos. The nomination process is now closed and in the hands of the team reviewing the files for approval. I'll keep you updated as I learn when that will be finalized.

-Mat Hayward

333
Thank you for the feedback. To answer Jo Ann's question first, it's unlikely we'll see a lot of progress within weeks, but yes I do believe this update will improve the data used for Sensei keyword "learning" over time. Some subjects are already better than others but there is room for improvement in all categories. This is why this feature is something I am really happy about. I know that some new contributors were simply pushing content through to moderation with all auto-keywords in place and untouched. That wasn't ideal for anyone. This update will require a little bit more work for them, but so much more accuracy which should result in increased visibility and sales. For you veteran contributors, most of you I know are embedding keywords prior to upload so it will have little effect unless you want to put the effort into reviewing the suggestions.Personally, I intend to do this because I have already learned I'm often missing some obvious words when doing bulk indexing. It's proven to be useful in my workflow.

It is still important you list the most relevant keywords in the top 10. Very important. Don't skip this step.

I do expect to see the quality of suggested keywords improve with time thanks to your efforts in selecting the accurate recommendations and skipping the others.

Please keep the feedback coming and let me know if you have any questions or concerns,

Mat Hayward

Super Mat and thank you, however I rather miss a tool that puts my keywords in a promising order  ;)

My advice is to embed keywords before uploading with the most relevant keywords listed in the top ten. Then, when you upload to Adobe Stock, you can quickly review suggested keywords and add anything you may have missed.

Hi Everyone,

I am very pleased to announce an upgrade to the Adobe Stock Contributor Portal. We have changed the indexing interface from auto keywords on assets with no embedded metadata, to auto-keyword suggestions powered by Adobe Sensei for all uploads.

Sensei will recommend up to 25 keywords for all content, including assets with embedded keywords which you can review and select to add.

I gave it a test run before we went live with some content I had already embedded and found good success with words I hadn't thought to add. For you veteran contributors, it will be a nice supplement, for those of you new to stock, this will likely result in great improvement in the quality of your keywording overall.

Check it out and let us know what you think,

Mat Hayward

Keep in mind, if you have 20 photos approved for Free, we would pay you $100 (assuming you are paid in USD). The cost of the Creative Cloud Photography plan is $9.99 so you could use that $100 to pay for the first 10 months of the subscription. If you had 24 files approved for the Free collection, you could pay for the entire year. This way, the many thousands of contributors who have already received a complimentary Creative Cloud for their successful contribution to Adobe Stock can choose to spend the money they receive on something else.

Thanks again,

Mat Hayward

So does this means there will not be any CC bonus program this year?

I don't have any information on a 2022 bonus program available yet. As soon as I do, I'll be posting in MSG for sure.

Thanks,

Mat Hayward

Matt
A suggestion for consideration. Adobe could introduce free photos for free subscriptions.   In exchange for an X amount of new exclusive accepted submissions, a contributor gets a free subscription.  Adobe becomes the copyrights owner and such photos are not linked to the photographer unless the photographer opts in to have them visible in their portfolio.  20 photos per year seem a fair number to me.

Thanks for the suggestion. We are not interested in taking over the copyright of the work of photographers however.

@Mat,
Three final questions if I may:
1) How come some photos without any downloads are eligible?
2) How come some photos that were recently uploaded are eligible?
3) In the addendum in point 10 it says:
"For Works first placed in the Free Collection after the Effective Date: before a Free Period expires, Adobe will give you prior notice and an opportunity to opt-out of including Works in the Free Collection during the next Renewal Period;"
Does this mean that Adobe can keep it in the free collection as long as you do not fully opt-out of the free collection or are we still able to select and de-select individual photos that have been in the free collection in the previous period? Because I read it as you can only fully opt-out if you do not want a certain photo to be in the free collection anymore after the period expires.

Thanks for the questions. I don't have insight available to share as to the specific selection process for what makes an image eligible or not. That takes care of questions 1 and 2. Sorry, I know it's not what you want to hear, but I dont have any information to share on this and I do not anticipate that changing.

Yes, your interpretation of the updated addendum is correct. If an asset is approved for the Free collection this year, by default it will be opted in for nomination to be considered for the Free collection next year. If approved again, another payment would result automatically. You will have the opportunity to "un-nominate" all or some eligible files for a reasonable time period that will be specified at a later date but unlike this year, that will be a manual process on your end. If you want to keep the files eligible, then no action would be required.

-Mat Hayward

Thanks for the answers. Pitty we cannot have insight and understanding on the first two but they are not so important anyway, just strange.

Just for all clarity because maybe I was not clear.
If I have 100 photos I would nominate now and they all get accepted then next year, by default, they will be nominated again. Which is fine. But let's say I want 90 to continue and 10 not. Will I be able to deselect those 10 images only and let the other 90 go through? Or is my only option, to prevent those 10 photos from going to the free collection again, opting out all together of the free collection? So then none of my images will go to the free collection and none will receive the 5 credit payment.
So, does this sentence: "opportunity to opt-out of including Works in the Free Collection during the next Renewal Period" applies to single/individual photos or the option to make use of this program as a whole?

You would be able to opt out the 10 photos you do not want to be nominated for consideration while leaving the remaining 90 as nominated for consideration.

Thanks,

Mat Hayward

Let me know your questions, I'll be around all day.

About automatic renewal:

for the works involved in the automatic renewal, will there also be a new automatic payment in the same terms as the first one? otherwise they should automatically go out of the period.
Too convenient and not very honest to leave it to OUR difficulty, attention and use of time and resources to EXIT a condition that benefits Adobe at our expense.

If, on the other hand, the payment (but I don't see any mention of it in the addendum) for automatic renewal is itself automatic, then fine: can you clarify that explicitly -- and officially -- for us?

And if you can, please let know Adobe whenever they treat contributors as if they were employees they also have to remember the part about the salary.

Thank you! YOU are very kind and helping.

I'm unable to answer the other questions you have posed, however this one I can answer definitively. Yes.

If your file is approved for the Free collection during this 2022 wave, it will be automatically "nominated" for the Free collection in 2023. You will, of course have the option to opt-out and decline the nomination if that is your preference. What will be different is that the default will be for the file to remain nominated. Just like this year and last, if the nominated file is approved for the Free collection in 2023, the payment will be applied to your account automatically. It is important to us that contributors are fairly compensated for their work. In my opinion, as a contributor, I feel that $5 per image for a non-exclusive, 12 month agreement is fair and reasonable, so I have personally opted in the majority of my eligible files. The eligible files in my account were not generating consistent income for me and I don't see why that trend would have changed. If it's not for you, I fully respect your position and you are in no way, shape, or form obligated to participate.

Whether you nominate your photos or not, all contributors are greatly appreciated at Adobe Stock. We know that without you, there is no us.

Thanks for the questions and feedback,

Mat Hayward

341
Matt,  You confirmed that downloads of free images do not count towards getting a free subscription.   But if I have 100 images accepted and Adobe pays $5 for each of those images, would it count as 100 sales toward a free subscription?

No, the Free program has no connection to the bonus program in any way.

Thanks,

Mat Hayward

342
So, did the rules (4 or less sales withing the last 12 months) change after all?

There rule absolutely did change. I have images up for selection to the free gallery with just one or even 0 sales and not just a few, but actually several hundreds.

Hi Firn,

Can you confirm if they had several hundred downloads in the past 12 months? Most likely, as in my account, the vast majority of those downloads happened more than a year ago. If I'm mistaken, please email me the file number(s) directly so I can take a look: [email protected]

Thanks,

Mat Hayward

No, Mat, you misunderstood, or maybe I worded it poorly, sorry: I meant that I have several hundred images up for selection that only had one download or no download at all. And last year no imges with zero downloads were nominated,  but are nominated now, so something has changed in the nomination process, at least for me.

Oh, got it. I don't know what the exact criteria is to qualify other than they cannot be assets with good sales in the past 12 months. It sounds like your eligible files meet that criteria.

-Mat Hayward

343
I did a quick check on what was eligible for nomination in my portfolio and I don't understand why items that have been downloaded within the last month and have lots of downloads are eligible.

Last time around, I thought it was only things that hadn't been downloaded in a certain amount of time that were eligible.

I'm not assuming; I checked several against my recent downloads list (by hand I would add; there are no ways to see downloads by date for a given image).

Have the rules for what assets can be included changed this time?

This is still the same Jo Ann. If a file was a top seller in the past 12 months it would not be eligible for nomination. In my account, I have some files eligible with hundreds of downloads in the lifetime of the image, but only a couple in the past year. The files that are eligible for nomination were determined last week, so it's likely there will be a few odd exceptions in which an image went on a download spree the past week and is still available for nomination. Please know that in those rare cases, when the nomination process is complete and the final selections are being made, those images will not be accepted. It's not in any of our best interest to pull content from the paid collection if it is trending towards consistent sales.

If you have a file or files, Jo Ann that seem to not align with what I just wrote, please send me an email with the specific file numbers and I'll look up their sales history to check them out.

Thank you,

Mat Hayward

Hi Mat,

several of my eligable files were only uploaded this year (2022), so they werent even online for 12 months... I dont remember that being the case last year. So, did the rules (4 or less sales withing the last 12 months) change after all?

No changes in the selection process that I am aware of. Do those new files have a large number of downloads?

-Mat Hayward

344
[Downloads in the Free collection do not count toward your statistics.

-Mat Hayward

That would be my suggestion for improvement.  Of course, free DLs should not count towards free subscription, but it would be helpful to know the stats.   I.e  I nominated photo last yr, got 5 credits,  and now I see that photo had 10 free DLs over last 12 months.  So maybe I would not re-nominate same photo this time around estimating it has potential to earn more as "not free".  On the other side,  photo with 0-5 DLs in free collection is probably good candidate for re-nomination.

Where do you see that stats that shows the number of free downloads an asset has gotten?

Download statistics from the Free collection are not available.

Matt,
Will selected assets count as sales towards getting a free subscription?

Good question, but no. Downloads in the Free collection do not count toward your statistics.

-Mat Hayward

347
This may have been asked already, but do the download numbers in the assets that have been free for the last year reflect all downloads or only payed downloads?

Only paid downloads are reflected in your portal statistics @wds. Downloads from the Free collection are not counted in the portal.

Thanks for the question,

Mat Hayward

348
Hello, can you tell me if there's a way to select the images we'd like to nominate versus nominating all eligible assets? It says we can adjust individual files until the 23rd and I just wanted to make sure before I click on it that there's a way to deselect some images. Thanks so much.

Sure thing, Xirae. You can do it one of two ways. If you think you'll be nominating most eligible files, I recommend you click to nominate them all and then go through your dashboard and deselect those you do not want to include.

If you think you will be nominating a minority of what is eligible, then the process will likely be quicker to go through and click to nominate the individual files.

Let me know if you have any additional questions about this.

Thanks,

Mat Hayward

All the ones that are currently free don't have a slider.  Just a box that says "free".  Doesn't seem like a choice for those.  Or are those automatically not going to be re-admitted at all?

Try refreshing the page or using a different browser Sean. That was the case immediately after this launched today, but was corrected almost immediately. If you're still seeing that, it's likely a browser issue.

Please reach out directly if the problem persists.

Thank you,

Mat Hayward
