In my day job, I am a photo editor at a newspaper. Largely due to Canon's expensive and very poor repair and service, I switched all of our photographers to Nikon, who have been fantastic to deal with. Canon makes great cameras, but frankly, their service sucks.

I'm mystified why there is such an obsession with Yuri? He operates a business and makes decisions based on what is best for his business, not other competing photographers. And, yes there is a place for citizen photojournalism ... I've always said an amateur gets lucky and produces a good photo - a pro does it on demand. There will always be a demand for professional photography.
Did you read the blog? Alexander the Great would feel threatened by so much display of megalomania.
Indeed I did. It's an advertising piece for and by Yuri. What would you expect from company advertising? Most companies churn out PR bumf non-stop. I know, because a ton of it lands in my in box. His company is no exception.

I use an FTP client (Cyberduck), create a window via bookmarks for each agency, drag the files into each window and walk away. For me it's frankly no more work than Lightburner was and more reliable.

There are royalties from the ads that are pre-rolled on YouTube. You might be entitled to your cut.

One of my all time favourite records! I'm very impressed.

The interesting part here is what the royalty rate is: 75% goes to the musician. As a newcomer to microstock I'm still pretty stunned by the royalty rates we are paid. Years ago, I had transparencies with some major agencies and was dismayed at receiving only 50%! http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/14/4522314/how-one-company-is-helping-small-musicians-find-buried-treasureFrom The Verge: "According to Audiam founder Jeff Price (who co-founded TuneCore in 2006), the company will act as the middle-man between small artists and huge companies like YouTube ... I'm new at this -- really just got going in January. I have an admittedly not so great portfolio, but sales on SS were increasing nicely month after month until May when sales just almost stopped. Never really recovered. Very disheartening. After reading sales related posts in this forum I have to say I have never been involved in such a volatile business! I'm sticking with it and working on getting more salable content, but it is one wild business. Oddly, I had one month with IS with sales increasing quite a bit and after one month then that stopped almost entirely.

I have tried Skydrive, but the uploads have always failed after about 20 images (tiffs) for some reason. Not sure why it fails, but never have had the time to pursue further.

I love the app (use it on iPhone). It would be great if it had a feature allowing the financials to be queried by date range. I would certainly pay extra for this feature.

From Tsar Nicholas II: I regret to inform you that we cannot accept your submission for the following reasons:
-Flat/dull colors -Direct on-camera flash and/or flash fall-off (bright subject, dark background) -Harsh lighting with blown-out highlights that lack details and/or distracting shadows - Distracting lens flares -Incorrect white balance
(apologies, could not resist. These photos are very cool.)

Thnx - assumed that was to download stats in spreadsheet --- and of course I was wrong!

Is there any way to see what photos sold on 123rf? I can find the general stats, but nowhere can I find an indicator as to which pics sold -- or am I just blind (which is quite possible)?

I've tried to connect to the Lightburner FTP last night but could connect. Anyone know if it is still active?

I've used Lightburner. Great when it works, not so great when it doesn't. Last time I used it uploading to six agencies I received a report back that is had successfully uploaded to each site. The photos never arrived at two of them. It's entirely possible there was a problem at the receiving end -- who knows, but I've decided it's simpler in the end to just upload individually (at least for now).

I have used a laptop for years for photojournalism, where the requirements for post production are pretty limited. When I started in stock I tried using it, but colour correction and further post production was very difficult and uneven (MacBook Pro). I've now hooked it up to a large monitor and this works reasonably well, but I plan to by a desktop computer for the power and storage. Frankly, I think you need both.

My skin is rhino thick! Getting negative feedback is useful and as appreciated as positive feedback. Operating in a vacuum is the toughest part.

Again - many thanks to those who have commented. It is all very helpful and I find I can really get tunnel vision without having outside eyes looking in.

Thank-you all for your comments. They are extremely helpful and I will take them to heart. One question about the comment about 176 pictures with person ... not sure what you mean by this (I have no editorial photos). Can you elaborate? Jeff
1 - you have 176 pictures with "person" at SS (50 of them editorial) (no offense just a fact) 2 - I think jrwasserman pictures are all good enough to compete with all top guys, actually some are very good, just keep on uploading
Hi - I am new to the stock photography business and have a limited portfolio and am frankly still finding my way. I have had steady sales on Shutterstock but on DT, IS, FT, CS, BS etc. sales have been almost non-existant. I'm wondering if I am off base with what I am shooting or the quality of submissions is the problem. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated (and I have a thick skin)! Here's a couple links to my work: http://us.fotolia.com/p/203773977http://www.dreamstime.com/jrwasserman_more-popular-photos_pg1Thanks, Jeff
