Image Sleuth / Re: THIEF ! on Shutterstock...
« on: July 24, 2017, 18:56 »
I just don't get why the sites can't use something to detect these portfolios.  Is it really that difficult?  I doubt they inform buyers what's happened, because then they would have a reason to prevent it happening.  I presume they take all the money, so it could be financially beneficial for them?

They keep the money ...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Strange RF rejections

I submitted a photo of a baby's face once that was "too offensive" on 123.
I was offended by their offense!

Call me crazy, but I would say that 99.99% of pictures used by teachers in a classroom setting (PowerPoint or similar) are not bought... They are the first hits on Google image search.

My son brought home an animal assignment and my photo was on it. I told the teacher how cool it was to see my photo on his homework sheet and she said she found it on google.

There you go ...

Newbie Discussion / Re: My first two month stats
« on: July 20, 2017, 10:22 »
Remember when you had to get 7 out of 10 to be approved to become a contributor years ago?
Now it is like 1 out of 10 or something? That tells you the direction "they" are going in...

You guys get an entire month off? I can only dream. I work in my sleep ...

There are sections that say "downloads" on the left - he is selling them for $7 each - more than we make ...

Very nice work! Definitely try ArcAngel. I believe you can still sell your work as art prints and sell on ArcAngel too.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe?? deadly quiet!
« on: July 13, 2017, 10:05 »
I remember in the beginning when Adobe got fotolia! it was brilliant and takings were up some 200-300% and it was a WOW from many. Then something happened and that was that.

I never saw or experienced that "boom" that many speak of when they were bought. Fotolia has been a very low earner for me when they fell off years ago. I'm an emerald "green" rank.

So nothing unusual for me there...

Go with it! Same price again! Congrats!

So that is what is happening to new images, they are treated as spam. Makes sense now...

I believe it is called "opportunity cost" in economics... It is actually costing you money to upload there.

Yada, I didn't mean to discredit anyone in their 1 or 2 year sales stats but it is hard to draw conclusions over a 1 year span. The first 1 or 2 years always have significant growth - it is interesting to see 5 years and 10 years sales data. Just my opinion...

well 10 years ago was easy to earn due to low competition....if u not earn now with competition maybe all fault is not rf....your niche, children photography is one of the most saturated. maybe if you begin understanding this you should improve. if you have decided that uploading is useless and rm is the only way to go you are ready to have a big disappointment.. rm is much more difficult of rf.

Ouch! I kind of feel attacked here. What did I do? I'm only with one RM agency - arcangel. Never said it was better or worse than rf. I think you got the wrong impression of me...

It's easy to have a BME when you've only been around for a year or two. I've been with Shutterstock now for 12 years, and June was the worst month in 5 years, down 50% from last year. Something is seriously wrong.

Exactly my experience. 50% down.  Over 4,000 assets, mix of video and stills.

Yep! same here close to 6000 files and all commercial files with model releases and everything. Exactly 50% down. If this carries on I will have no choice but to delete my port and stuff them into a macro RF/RM agency where just a couple of sales will make up for it. SS have turned into my third agency as far as earnings it used to be my number one for 8 years.

From what I understand, once your files have been on Micro you can never submit them to RM agencies even if you delete them from SS - even sister images can't be. Am I wrong?

I totally agree. I've been doing this for 10 years and June was not good. I wish there was a way to put how many years someone has been doing micro under their name. I think it would be a valuable insight for people reading the forums.

Angela, anything happening for you on Arcangel?
Not yet. I only have 54 images up though... I tend to spend hours editing which really slows my portfolio growth. I wish I could just smash them out like hot cakes.

I think even if I shot other things outside of children and myself, NO new files sell. It isn't worth it anymore and I'm not the only one saying this...

It is very sad indeed. There is just no incentive.

Yes, 123 has been declining for most. I still make more there than Fotolia so I hope 123 does not close.

I know it won't last forever but I really need to find other means of income. Scary times ...

I did not know about it until reading this forum. I'm so disappointed. I worry other agencies will try this ...

347
Where does it say exclusive? It says editorial.
That is strange. It is definitely NOT editorial...

348
Actually, now that I think about it, I earned less than $25 because I believe the $25 on the right side was the sale price - not my earnings...

I could be wrong but I could have made more than $25 (or less) as RF for the image.

349
I earned $25 for the RM sale and it was EXCLUSIVE.

350
RM Exclusive on Alamy earned me very little. I was surprised at the low amount of royalty for the RM license I received. I pulled the images and listed them on Pond5 for $100 instead.
