Symbiostock - Network Building / Re: Network Directory Empty
« on: June 23, 2013, 17:39 »
Thanks guys.

The "10 network partners limit" - I'm not sure I understand the reason for it. Isn't more networking much better?

Are there any plans for a "Central Symbiostock Site" (you know like one kick-ass-website with a catchy domain) where potential image buyers can do an image search with the result of mixed images of all network members?

Thanks for the response.

How will others even know that I exist?

And another one. It seems like I can add only 10 network partners. Is that correct? If yes, why?

Symbiostock - Network Building / Network Directory Empty
« on: June 23, 2013, 16:44 »
O.K., it seems like I've got many features running already. One thing is still bothering me.

The image search is working pretty well. I get my images listed and the images of added network partners too.
But I don't get anything listed on the network directory page. It's still empty. What do I have to do to list the members/websites?

One more question to check if I understood this correctly. I can add network members which will show their search results on my page but that does not automatically mean that my images will show on their page. Is that right? How can I make sure that the "networking concept" goes in both directions?

You probably turned off the one for posts (blogs) not pages ?  If so go to Symbiostock bee , Author Options tab and about half way down is an option to turn comments on and off.

I leave mine on but since I added a couple of plug ins to discourage spammers the only comment I have had is a real one on my blog.

At the location you're describing I can only find "Image Comments" but this option is disabled and that's not what I meant.

I meant I just want to create a simple homepage with some text and without the option for other people to leave comments. Just a simple static page without visitor interaction.

330
How can I turn that "Leave a comment" function off?

I already unchecked "Allow people to leave comments on new articles" in the Discussion settings but that didn't make the comment submission form disappear.

I want only static pages and no discussions on my site.

331
I "think" if you activate but do not link to anyone or have them link to you you will be okay - try it and see if the rest of that page shows up so you can complete it

Yes, that worked. A lot more options are showing up. Thanks a lot.

332
It is in Users, Profile but I have just had a thought.  Do you have the Network activated in the Symbiostock Bee section, first tab.  If not I do not think it will show up

No, not yet. I don't want to activate the network before I'm not ready to actually show some content.

I just found out that the user settings, no matter what you change, will not "update" image pages. However the new settings will apply when you upload and process new images. That explains why I couldn't see any changes on the current image page.

333
It is the first link under
Symbiostock Profile and Extended Network Info

Create your photo and upload it
add the url to the box
save

I'm sorry, I'm trying really hard to follow but I can't find the links "Symbiostock Profile" or "Extended Network Info".

When I click on Symbiostock in the vertical nav bar on the left side, I get
- Network
- Settings
- Author Options
- Marketing
- Symbiostock Help

No "profile".

When I click "All Users" in the User section, I get this user table and I can click
- Add New
- Your Profile

Can you provide a screenshot?

I really appreciate your efforts to help.

1.  Not entirely sure about this and do not fully understand question but it might be
Users
All Users
click on edit under your name
  scroll down
 Create nickname
use that nickname

2. bit lower down on the same page, create your "personal photo"  150 x 150 pixels, upload it and add link.  Scroll to bottom of page and save

1. That's exactly the problem. I can fill anything I want into the fields
- First Name
- Last Name
- Nickname
- Display name publicly as

but it won't change the image page text. On the image page it will always list my login email address (which is also the default user name).

2. I'm sorry but I can't find any "create your personal photo" link on that page.

335
O.K., I have set up WP and installed the Symbiostock theme. Looks like it's all working so far.

But since I've never worked with WP before, I sometimes feel completely lost. I hope somebody will be able to leave some pointers to my questions.

1. How do i change the text on the image page "Stock image by [MY EMAIL ADDRESS]" from my login email to my actual name? I've tried all different user/profile settings already but WP won't let me change the user name field.

2. How to substitute the standard Symbiostock user avatar on the image page to an author image?

More questions coming soon.

336
Thank you guys. I just downloaded it.

Symbiostock - General / Re: how to start?
« on: June 18, 2013, 07:15 »
Yes, I have just installed WP on my webspace.
I have to leave for a photo assignment now but will be back on my desk in a few hours. If the site is still down then, I'll shoot you a PM with my email. Thanks for your help.

Does symbiostock.com still exist or is the site just temporarily down?
Wanted to give it a try but can't reach the site to download the theme.

A little note would be nice if Lightburner cut custom channel distribution intensionally or if somebody is going to fix this problem.

341
Since 3 days Lightburner is only distributing to default channels. Custom FTP channels are not working.

Same here, no transfer to custom channels.

342
They (shutterstock) have accepted all my "easy relaeses" so far (60 in May).

344
Yes, down for me as well, although their FTP is working fine. Hopefully they will fix it for the morning

Steve

Does that happen a lot?
I mean I'm not complaining since it's a free service, but I still rather pay for something that works reliable than not knowing when I will get the submission done and where my image files went to.

Still down ...

345
Does anybody still use lightburner.com?
They seem to be totally down for several hours and I noticed error messages yesterday all day long.

"Error establishing a database connection"

I tried picworkflow.com but I hate that they don't include Alamy as an upload option.

Any ideas or alternatives?

346
First off, thanks for this service.

I have two question/recommendation thoug.
1. It would be great if you could get some kind of feedback if a submission of images has been successful or not. When you select a couple of channels to submit to, it won't tell you if one of the channels accepted your submission. Or did I oversee this feature?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: What's the average review time?

Actually, I just received one an hour ago.  8)

OK, this pisses me off a little. You are a new non-exlusive member (I assume) and already had a file from 4/27 reviewed.
I am an exclusive and files from 4/26 are still pending.

All I have to say WTH? Fast review supposed to be a big perk of exclusivity.
I am surprised that they are not doing more to keep their exclusives happy.

P.S.: Nothing against Redneck, welcome to the forum and good luck all around.

Maybe it's some kind of "new contributor bonus". Waiting a week to get a file reviewed sure didn't feel like a bonus to me though.

Yeah, but come on, their objects of trade are digital images, ones and zeros, bits and bytes. But they still insist on paper and ink when it comes to a release form? Doesn't really make sense to me.

But of course, they can do whatever they want, I accept that and take the consequences by dropping them.

350
I can.  There's nothing 'real' to fall back on.

iStock doesn't take it either.

How do they (Dreamstime or iStock) know there is something "real" when you submit any other .jpg or .pdf document?
