123RF / Re: It seems that 123rf has fallen ?
« on: June 04, 2019, 03:52 »
I currently can't get anything to upload there. Constantly get the 'Nothing found in the processing queue message'.

OK, I've just upgraded to the full Adobe package, and asked on the live chat whether I could have credit for the remaining months on the free offer.

This is the answer I got:

"I really apologize for that you have to cancel your subscription and after that you can purchase that subscription in which you will get free PS/LR."

I tried to continue the conversation - do I need to cancel the PS/LR package or the new package?? But no one is answering me.

I am going away tomorrow, so will probably have to revisit this when I get back, but I can't be the only person to upgrade who has had to deal with this? Does anyone know of an easy solution?

I am by no means an expert, but I think you could set up multiple masks on the same "layer" or node. If that doesn't work, you could add additional nodes. I think if you kept them on the same node, all displacements or tracking movements would be identical. Again, I could be totally wrong, but that's what I would try.

Thanks for trying to help but I tried that and, because the mask was inverted, and effectively made a hole through to the bottom layer, if I made multiple masks I has multiple holes, so moving the bottom layer meant everything had to line up.

What I needed to do somehow was link the two layers together then add a new layer above for the second dust spot. I didn't find a way.

I have the 'free year' for Photoshop/Lightroom, which runs until sometime later this year.

What happens if I wish to upgrade to the whole CC package? I can't cope with Premiere Pro CS6 any longer!

Try Davinci Resolve to break the chain of servitude. I dropped Premiere Pro and glad I did, Resolve does everything I need and does not force you into a strangle hold cloud plan... worth checking out.

I've spent the whole day trying to work with Davinci Resolve and really struggled with it - apart from the colour correction features which were a joy to use. I've downloaded a 7 day trial of the latest Premiere Pro and I'll compare side by side tomorrow and decide which way I go. I'd like to go with Resolve, as I hate the fact that I can't own the Creative Suite as I used to - I've only paid for Photoshop until now, and stayed with old versions of Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere Pro.

There certainly is a learning curve... just like Premiere the first time. I spent a day just going through Youtube videos and how to's and now find Resolve to be acceptable. At this point I only use the free version and that said I am only doing basic editing, clipping, and color correction. I was used to Premiere and could zing through my workflow, and am fairly certain I will zing through with a bit of training on Resolve and save $$$ in the process with the same results.

Yes, but I set myself a task that I can do in 10 minutes in Premiere Pro and, even with the help of video tutorials, I can't yet get the same result in Davinci. I will give it another go today, as I maybe just need to get my head around it.

What exactly is it that you are having difficulty replicating in Resolve?

I was following a tutorial to remove some dust spots from a sky. The instructions effectively made a new layer with a small inverted mask, and I moved the layer underneath slightly to shift the dust under the mask.

This worked for one spot but, other than saving and reopening, I couldn't figure out a way to do it for a second or third spot, as I couldn't find a way to flatten or link the first two layers together.

Sorry, yes! Stocksubmitter!

I'll change my title now  :)

maybe ur just not capable on a computer ??   ;)

stick to prints perhaps ?   8)

Oh - I didn't know I needed to be computer literate! I will go back to my chalk and slate option ;)

Sorry, yes! Stocksubmitter!

I'll change my title now  :)

I use it for more than 1 year and everything is perfectly faster with the keywords, title and decription and I send all the agencies with just one click, but my machine is windows I have never tried it with a mac

On the weekend I will give it another go but for now, I have failures and constant logging in problems, with a box popping up about every three minutes for both Shutterstock and Adobe - so much so that Adobe locked my account for a period because of all the sudden login attempts!

Sorry, yes! Stocksubmitter!

Along time ago I downloaded and tried StockSubmitter, but gave up as I found it clunky and not particularly user friendly.

Everyone bangs on about how great it is, and I don't mind paying for a service to improve my workflow, so I thought I'd give it another go.

It won't keep me logged in to either Fotolia/Adobe or Shutterstock, and a box pops up every few minutes forcing me to log back in. I read in the instructions that I should log in first time through a private browsing window, and I've tried that but it hasn't helped.

I got a message telling me a title was too long, so I changed this and saved, then I get a message saying my files could not be 'renamed or uploaded from other PC' for Alamy and 123rf and I can't submit them. What does this even mean? (I'm using a Mac)

For Fotolia/Adobe I get a message saying 'unable to parse results during submissions for images'.

It's taken me about 2 hours to try and upload 2 images to 7 sites and I still have to go in and manually submit those that have failed and, unless someone can convince me it's worth persevering, I'm ready to give up as I did last time.

Has anyone any suggestion that can help me figure this out? Alternatively is there a more user friendly product out there that can do the job in a more streamlined fashion?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Cavan Images
« on: January 28, 2019, 18:48 »

I started submitting to Cavan (only about 20 images) but stopped because they have a 2 year exclusive hold on your images before they'll remove them from the site. I knew about the 2 year hold beforehand and thought I'd be ok with it but ultimately decided it's a deal breaker for me. Yes they also restrict out take images from the same shoot to be submitted elsewhere.

I also signed up to Cavan late last year, thinking it would be a good place to park my Stocksy rejects, and I asked about whether I could delete files and still haven't heard back.  it probably was in the agreement, which I only skimmed through. For now I only have 1 small food series on there. I really dislike their image upload process and I haven't been back to add more. I had hoped it would be a good workaround for the Getty "no deletions" rule, but apparently not. The risk of uploading a series, having 90% declined, and a 2 year lock down, is a real problem.

I did get accepted to Cavan and they accepted 10 out of 10 of my initial submissions, but some of the comments here have me hesitant to submit more.

Is Stocksy your preferred agency?  Can you tell me your reasons why?  I'm new to the stock world so whatever insight you can share would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Stocksy pays the best, for me outsells all the others. they also give me the most frustration as the standards are high. a decline from them hurts deeply, cos you know that's where you want your work, amongst all that other excellent work. if SS or Getty decline my stuff i don't care 1 bit, I'm also with Adobe Prem and they have a higher decline rate than Stocksy and I just laugh when they decline stuff. Stocky has wonderful imagery, you don't have to wade through pages of shite to find something, and although they have their more arty side, it's tempered with a lot of beautiful everyday imagery too. You can reach out to any editor and have a discussion about your work, i recently had a 2hour hang out with an editor and it was so amazing to be able to do that. You can query a decline, have a discussion and sometimes it will be overturned, or not, but the chance to talk with someone is always there. They will send files back to have something edited/fixed, rather than a straight decline. Sales are real time. The Image Manager is the best in the industry. There's no sneaky back door deals where you end up with $1 and left wondering what the agency got.

what did I miss? :)

Glad it's working for you, Gillian,

One note though, when I click on any Stocksy portfolio link from here, it either takes forever to load or simply hangs and doesn't load at all. Totally off-putting in the 21st century.

On the new adobe upload page, you are asked about 'recognisable property'. If you say 'yes', you are prompted to choose or upload a release, so what are you supposed to do with recognisable property that doesn't require a release?

It doesn't feel right to say 'no' to the question when there clearly is some recognisable property in the image.

I have been sticking with the FT upload portal for exactly this reason - wasn't sure what to do about public buildings or other property that doesn't require a release.  There has not been a change in the review criteria when uploaded through FT so I assume we are to interpret "recognizable" as "recognizable that requires a release" unless they tell us otherwise.

Yes, this is correct. Only click yes if the recognizable property requires a release.

-Mat

So if we have a private house in the distance, but we took the image from a public position, we can simply click no to recognisable property?

The location you took an image from is irrelevant. The content of the image is what counts when determining if you need a release. For details on our legal guidelines including property release requirements please visit our learn and support pages linked here: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/user-guide.html?topic=/stock/contributor/morehelp/legal-guidelines.ug.js

Kind regards,

I'm not sure I get where I took an image from as being irrelevant, as if I was on private land rather than public, I would surely need a release?

Anyway, thanks for the article link, it was interesting and has confused me even further, as I now have to decide whether a house is generic or not :-\

I will just leave it to the inspectors to bounce it back if they want a release.

Location is sometimes relevant if you're on a private property or privately owned land, and take photos of subjects that can be linked back to this place, then you might need a property release from the owner.

But what appears on your photo is also affecting this - as Mat said. For instance, buildings can be copyrighted by the artist / architect / owner although their photo can be taken from public space. If they are, usually they can't be the main subject of an image but some copyrighted buildings are acceptable in skylines or cityscapes as long as they are with other buildings. It's really a case by case thing.

"So if we have a private house in the distance, but we took the image from a public position, we can simply click no to recognisable property?"
I'd say go for it if it's a home as the owner is unlikely to create trouble. If it's a known building design such as a modern house or a business, maybe double check online with its name.

There's also a few resources that work great together when you're not sure - you can search by location or building name with CMD+F or CTRL+F function:

AS

IS
- http://wiki.gettyimages.com/category/architecture/

SS
- https://www.shutterstock.com/contributorsupport/articles/kbat02/Known-Image-Restrictions-Objects-and-Subjects

Thanks for the links!

Interestingly, the Adobe one says 'Photos of the building exterior may be acceptable if taken from public property. Photos taken on private property, including the interior, are restricted'.

The image is a generic house in a landscape taken from a public place. Shutterstock and Istock have both approved it on this basis, but Adobe had requested a release.

I'm going round in circles with this one, so I guess I'll pass where Adobe is concerned.

I think I will also stick with the Fotolia interface until we have clarification on this point. I prefer not to answer questions inaccurately until we have a definitive answer, so I'll just let an inspector kick them back if they think a release is needed.

Recognizable property requires a release. Answer yes and attach a release. If you are posting a picture of some unidentifiable patch of land in the middle of nowhere, dont attach a release. Say no.

What I am saying is that if I take a picture of The Houses of Parliament in London, everyone will recognise this as The Houses of Parliament, but I don't need a release for it.  Do I just tick 'no', or forego uploading that image because I couldn't get a release from The Prime Minister of England?!!  :D
In that case say no and send it to see what they say.

Yeah, that's kind of what i figured, but iI just find the wording a little odd. I wish it would just ask 'Do you need a release?'

I just tried uploading with the new Adobe interface, and I like it very much. However, I cannot set the price for the ELs as I can on the Fotolia page from 30-100.

Mat, I know you have said in the past that we can write in and get this changed, but are we to write in every time we make a submission, or are you going to allow us to set a default amount somewhere?

The Extended license price is fixed across the entire collection at Adobe Stock. The price is $79.99. There is no need for the feature you have requested. While Fotolia is still active however, we can make the change to extended license prices for you. The most efficient way to  submit the request is to write us via the "contact us" link at the bottom of the Adobe Stock Contributor Portal. You can also open a ticket via Fotolia however our response time will likely be slower.

-Mat

My own experience:

I switched my uploading habits recently and moved from Fotolia to Adobe Stock.
On Fotolia, I used to always set my EL price to the maximum possible (100).
If I look at my last uploaded images (uploaded via Adobe Stock), the EL price is set to 100 (without me requesting anything from support).
Somehow it seems to work how I want it  :)

I wish mine did, as my uploads via Adobe reverted to 30 for ELs on the Fotolia site.

Wouldn't it help if all of us who read this here on the microstock group write to Shutterstock and report this Alexiy Molochnik and others?

I think others have tried that, only to be told that the owner of the original image must be the one to report the theft.

Isn't there anything we can do about it? Who knows who took from whom?

I think all we can do is post here when we see this happening, in the hopes that one of us will find our own image being stolen so that we can make the report to Shutterstock.

I've made assumptions about who took from who based upon the image ID numbers. It isn't a foolproof method but a pretty good indication, particularly when viewing the age, style and portfolios as a whole.
