What if you tape a picture of your face onto your ass? Will that be rejected?  ;D

Anyka, this is a really interesting distinction.  I am going to ask my accountant if it would apply in the US too.  I have already filed for this year and took an absolute beating on taxes, but if it was possible to change the income to Schedule E as Royalties then that would be wonderful!
I was actually curious how your corporation status worked out. Was it a money saver or not?

I got paid yesterday too for a request from the 1st.

I agree with click_click. It seems pretty minor in the offense category. There seems to be bigger fish to fry than some guy's blog making fun of crappy images. If there are real pirates out there, why are you busting the guy working at Long John Silver's?

I think it's pretty clear this whole thing has been a fiasco and very ill-planned.
It seems that way to me too. I think that is what has turned me off more than the 25 cents.

it's working for me now

however, you may want to try the other sites at .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it ...

sometimes they work when fotolia.com is down, and you can access the site with your usual login and pwd

I agree. Sometimes fotolia.com doesn't work, so I'll use us.fotolia.com instead.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock has roughly 85k contributors
« on: March 12, 2010, 10:58 »
According to 'The Chart' the number of contributors that have uploaded 10 or more images in the last 30 days is about 3600.

Of those the number that have uploaded 100 or more images in the last 30 days is only 165. Of course there will be some serious contributors who are currently taking a break or working on other projects but it's another indicator of how many 'full timers' there are likely to be.

That's kind of deceptive. I can't upload more than 80 in 30 days. I would if I could.

Hmm... 120 sales from an account that I had been trying to close. I'm not sure how I should feel about that.

If your counting vector artists on microstock, the numbers jump substantially imo. I believe there are quite a number of vector contributors that make over 50k a year just on istock.

Vector art? What's that?  ;)

Nice article. I like the sentence about some people getting it and others not. For me, it was like a light bulb went on after I uploaded my first 10 images. It seemed so obvious, but I've had a few friends that I went to college with that seemed to have no interest in it.

Star Trek predicted all of it in the 1960's  ;)
I thought it was Jules Verne.

And whatever happened to the information superhighway? I guess the web was a cooler name.

They are at the bottom of my earnings every month with a total of zero sales. Seems like a good site though, so hopefully they crank up the promotion machine.

Once I've heard a good definition of a pro, and it was not related to $$.
Amateur _can_ do an excellent job
Pro does a good job _always_ (though it may be not excellent)

Unfortunately this definition works best for self-rating, not external one.
I like that definition. I think consistency is a big part of being a pro.

Because as soon as he opens his mouth there's a crowd of believers and disciples
foaming from their mouth in awe.

Ha. Ha. Too true.

This just in. Yuri says you should eat oatmeal for breakfast and brush your teeth in a circular motion. Sorry, I couldn't resist. The guy does great work and I respect him and all that he has accomplished, but I don't get the obsession.

It will calm down and then it will heat up again. It seems to come and go in cycles. What is it they say at IS?

Heart Heart Unicorn Rainbow? ;)

I think they probably shop a particular place out of convenience. They usually find what they want at one place, so why shop around to save a couple bucks. Although if an agency burns too many bridges, it's a lot easier for the buyers to go shop somewhere else.

On the flip side, I always wondered how loyal buyers are to particular contributors. Would they leave an agency to shop somewhere else if their favorite contributor left that agency?

I just want to add that Macs are better than PCs... wait what was this thread about?

They just added all the price and rank bumps in January, right? (just making sure)

So far, January had a good RPD and average downloads and February had a terrible RPD and about the same average downloads. So, the jury is still out for me, but I'm leaning towards this being not much of a positive impact.

ie.  SS is at $400 avg. or whatever it is and 123RF is at $20
That makes sense to me.

3347
New suppliers aren't randomly stumbling onto the agencies!
Nope. They are carefully targeted with banner ads, google image searches, magazine ads and more. I assume that ads for buyers bring in contributors and referral links for contributors bring in buyers too. Some of them are the same people too. I've bought plenty of images for clients and none of them were my own. So some buyers may be sneaking in with those pesky referral links.

3348
Yeah, very similar legislation was proposed in the US back in 2008 (The Orphan Works Act of 2008) that contained equally evasive language. The bill was opposed by the National Press Photographers Association and a petition against the bill was signed by Larry Lessig of all people (read his NYT op ed here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/20/opinion/20lessig.html?ex=1369022400&en=af6d685002b2942f&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink) .
The bill ultimately died before the House of Representatives ever voted on it.

I wondered what happened to that. I guess it got defeated.

3349
I see the sky is falling again this morning. Look if the industry can be destroyed by some referral links and hobbyists with cameras, then it probably will be destroyed no matter what you do. I personally think it's a bit more stable than that.

I made almost to the penny the same in Feb as I did in Jan.  And January was not a good month.
That's not too bad bad considering StockXpert and the short month. My numbers were down from January. Hopefully, March is better.
