While you guys are having your revolution, do you think you can get them to let us add the word vector back in?

I can't say I've seen much change in the last 6 months. A lot of these changes were big news, but didn't really have much impact on my numbers.
IS and SS continue to hover in the 30-35% range. FT and DT are usually around 10%. So was SX, although usually a little less. Everybody else is between 0-3%. I do wonder which agencies will continue to grow this year though. 3354

And here I was wondering where all the knockdown/drag out threads went.
![]() Personally, I don't worry about competition that much. I know all the work it took to get to where I am, so if someone else wants to do that, then they deserve a little success. I can also see where people are coming from about too many contributors. Some keywords are so diluted with "me too" copycat garbage that new good images with those keywords may never get seen. But, I think that is the nature of the beast with the micros. Everyone was invited to the party. You knew that when you came, so it's kind of hard to complain about them when you get there. 3359
General - Top Sites / Re: Oh no, please! Not Canstock!« on: February 26, 2010, 13:24 »
I made more at StockXpert in February than I did at Canstock and it was only open for 10 or 11 days. Bigstock and 123 have earned more than StockXpert this month, but it isn't by a landslide. As far as Veer, every day I wake up and look at my stats thinking, "Today is the day I earn my first penny there". Then, the stats say 0 sales.

I wonder what it will look like next month? Will Canstock be in the Big 6? That's seems a bit of a stretch. Or Veer in the Up and Comings? Personally, my list is really starting to diverge from what I see on the right of my screen.

General Stock Discussion / Re: benefits or negatives of including extended licenses?« on: February 24, 2010, 20:36 »To me it is. A poster is sold purely on the value of the image printed on it. A book or cd is sold for the content within. I'd feel worse seeing someone profiting solely from my image, than something that isn't the focus of the product, like a food label, or something.A good image helps, but I'd say marketing is the biggest factor. I could create a better cartoon character than Mickey Mouse, but it will never be as popular. In regards to the original post, I used to not sell extended licenses because I worried about it eating into my freelance work and wanted to keep a tighter leash on my images. I was always surprised that more people don't question whether they want to offer extended licenses or not. In the end though, I decided the money was more important than policing my work. 3362

That's a good idea. It's like the sticky notes at the top of IS and SS's forums. I sometimes write articles on my blog about things I want to remember, so I have easy access to them later. ![]() 3364

I know this is just semantics, but let's talk about the Big 6. With StockXpert gone, I only see 4 big earners. The rest are fairly inconsistent or consistently low.

Adobe Stock / Re: The Latest from Chad regarding Purchase incentives and commission structure« on: February 19, 2010, 15:17 »As an example from a France site a package of 20 credits will average 1.14 euro which is equal to about $1.57 US at today's rate. And if a buyer buy an image of mine from this package then I get 31/157 and not 31/100. But I am sure that you can explain this.Out of curiosity, what do the credit packages cost on the non US sites? I can only see the credit prices when I log in and when I log in, it gives me the prices in dollars. 3366

Thanks for starting a new thread on this, since the old one kind of got cluttered up.
I wonder what the new average credit price is? It looks like the credit prices vary from $.75 to $1.14. I think these posts create more questions than they answer. 3367

When I started at IS, there were a lot of 1 credit vectors that I seem to remember getting a quarter for as well. Those are pretty much extinct now though.
I definitely would rather get paid a little more at VectorStock, but I don't really consider it a crime to upload there. I think it is a good little site. It probably won't ever have the bulk of portfolio, but I think it is worth having a presence there. 3369

General Stock Discussion / Re: The stock site you recommend to buyers« on: February 11, 2010, 13:11 »
I must of misunderstood the question too because I thought we were recommending sites to buyers for our OWN work. I get inquiries occasionally for images I've posted on my blog, so I usually direct them to a site that has that image and more. If that image is in a series and it has a lightbox on IS, then I usually post a link there.
Yeah, they may not buy my stuff when they get there, but I can at least point them in the right direction. 3372

General Stock Discussion / Re: The stock site you recommend to buyers« on: February 11, 2010, 01:03 »
I've been thinking about this recently as well. I used to always recommend iStock, but I was thinking about switching because they are getting further behind in my total catalog with their upload limits. I was thinking about Dreamstime. I think Shutterstock and StockXpert have my most complete portfolio, but Shutterstock isn't practical for everyone and StockXpert is closed.
I'd like to hear what others are recommending though. 3374

General Stock Discussion / Re: Do you count on having microstock income in 5 years? 10? 20?« on: February 10, 2010, 01:47 »
As far as the original post, it's hard to say. I assume things may not change too drastically in the next 5 years. Beyond that, I don't know. I think there is still a lot of room for growth in the microstock customer and contributor base.
I'd like to think that I'm still making money with my stock portfolio 10 or 20 years down the road, but who knows? That's a long way away. |
