The trigger won't fire ONLY when i use Contrast detection AF in Live view . when i switch the camera in normal AF ( same trigger, in camera settings) the trigger work very well.

Hi all,
Today i discover that my Canon 7D wont trigger the external flash units ( via remote trigger attach on top of the camera) when the photo is taken in Live view mode.
there is a setting issue? or just 7D won't trigger the external flashes in Live view?

In contrast with all agencies, how come SS never refunds a sold picture? They understand that the contributors has never to do with the online frauds or mistaken downloads?

@scottbraut: I wish Shutterstock would give us the opportunity to opt in or out on an image basis. About 10 % of my pictures are of children, and I can't (and won't) opt those in. But the other 90 % of the portfolio would not be a problem.
Totally agree with you. An opt in/out option at image level (not all the portfolio) will be a much wiser decision. I am willing to opt in the majority of my pictures BUT not all of them.

I was opted out but after reading more i am now opted in!
Hopes for bigger payouts
I'm opt out. i try to protect as much as i can my models.

Ironic, isnt it, yesterday turned out to be a most fantastic day, 4, ELs at BS, great at SS, DT and DP, weird!
Same here EL, OD's and lots of subs on SS. not bad.... the rest of the agencies terrible.

In my case the acceptance ratio :
SS - under average DT - good FT - above average 123 RF - good DP - good CanStockPhoto - very good IS - paranoic

Hi,
Today i received a new Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM..... the problem with the lens is that i must microadjust the lens at +20 (7D body) to get sharp images at f/ 2.2 - 2.8 when the subject is over 2m from the lens. When the subject is at 1m the microadjust lvl must be at 0 to get the best results. Is this normal or i get a copy with problems???

Nik

I know many think that I was just kidding around here, but frankly I wasnt, However tons of ppl contacted me yesterday, mails, this and that and well, I suppose, I have to re-consider this, too much at risk and too much hassle deactivating files, etc at all sites. I actually got sent to me some extremely interesting stats, earnings at IS, vettas and all that and believe me fellas, contrary to what we want to believe, there are plent and plenty of great earners at IS, equally, there are ofcourse lousy earners but as Ive said before its not just all about money, its about time, peace of mind, this and that, OTOH, these are ingrediants, totally strange to the micro world, isnt it? So in short, I will stick with independancy, getting too f###ing old in this game to start changing now. Thanks anyway for all your differant views.
Is not all about the money; i understand that. Upload only to the big 4 SS, IS,FT,DT. don't waste your time with other smaller agencies for say max. 20% of total revenue. this way you will have a steady income and much more free time to use as you like. br, Nik

I dropped exclusivity 9 months ago... believe me... I DON'T REGRET IT. SS and FT ROCKS....
I believe that the growth of DP and FT is mainly due to the IS decrease. SS is increasing steadlly every month.

Fotolia is selling but not that much. But I only have 48 images online since I have been lazy with keywording. I have 5 sales at Fotolia and they accept many images from Dreamstime so getting 300 online there should not be a problem if I put more time in it.
If you have the files on SS is very easy to upload on FT. Just copy - paste on FT. I personally upload first on SS and then just copy - paste on other agencies. it took me under a minute to upload one file ( copied from SS) to other 4 sites.

And I thought July was bad.
August 1 thru 4 have been TERRIBLE.
Today, Saturday the 4th, may end up being the worst day of the year.
Looking back at my data, it does appear that the first half of August is typically pretty low, and things start picking up in the second half.
But for the first time ever, I'm tracking behind year-ago levels. My July numbers ended up about 40% better than year-ago. But for the first four days of August, I'm trailing year-ago.
Is your August terrible, too? I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who had good sales in July (compared to 2011).
I don't expect miracles to happen in August , considering that is the holidays month in most of the countries. A average month will be ok for me.

I bought a Mustek PowerMust 1060 UPS ( 2 x 12V 7.2 Ah batteries inside) to use it as a power pack...
result after 3 outdoor photo shooting sessions:
I did not manage to empty the batteries ( more than 300 pictures/ shooting session using a 300W strobe; mostly at full power ), not even a slight problem with the UPS or the strobe unit.... the difference between a dedicated Power pack and the UPS is around $1000.
what can i say.......

I have both and must confess that I only use the Canon nowadays main reason for this is that the Canon is much smaller and lighter than the Sigma. The Sigma is at fully open aperture sharper in the center but overall performance is pretty much on par at least in practical use. My first sample of the Sigma had a frontfocus but I did send it back to the dealer and the second sample is 100% accurate.
You use canon lens on FF or crop sensor? At what aperture canon starts to mach the sigma? Nik,

Hi,
I want to buy a 50mm lens for my Canon 7D. i read many reviews about the Sigma lens ( i worked with the Canon 50 f/1.4) and many people are saying Sigma is a much better lens compared with Canon especially for the crop sensor cameras. 3-4 out of 10 people has reported focus problem with Sigma 50mm...
My questions are: is that good Sigma 50mm f/1.4 compared with canon??? It's worth the price difference???

Nik

July was better than i expect... SS - BME , again NO COMMENT FT - BME, NO COMMENT DT - above average , good month 123RF - under average ( again) Overall earnings : BME The pie slices: SS - 60% FT - 20% DT - 12% The rest - 8% August is the holidays month.. i personally expect a average month or a slight under average month

I have 10 sales! My images are online for 2 days now and its going better than expected. If it will keep up like this Shutterstock alone will make up for my losses at Dreamstime not being exclusive anymore.
I dropped exclusivity 9 months ago, and now SS alone is earning more than twice the $$$ than my BME as exclusive. like i said work hard and upload more content on all agencies ( the ones that worth uploading). Remember Quality and originality is the key not quantity. Br, Nik

This week I had great news : the oldest city in Belgium gave me permission to shoot in one of their medieval churches in December. And with "medieval" I really mean medieval - it's 700 years old! This church has been deconsecrated lately (I had to use a dictionary for that word!), but the altar, confessional and pulpit are still there. Anyway, I want to do a shoot with models there, but since it is such a beautiful church, I want the church to be fully visible in the photos, as a well lit background. Wedding shooters would of course say : shoot wide open and cranck up your ISO, but we stock shooters know that is out of the question. I 'd get refusals for "out of focus" and "noise". So the only thing I can do is add lots of light. The church has good electricity, so I can bring my 5 Elinchrom strobes and 2 Quadras, I could even rent more stuff. My main problem is : how can I get the most light out of my studio strobes, into the (dark) arches and side chapels? And what light modifiers would be the best choice for such a great building? Any one with (lots of) experience in lighting larger spaces with very high ceilings?
I have the same problem... i plan a photo session (with models ) in a old church, Dome ( a out of use degraded one) i plan to use studio flashes and much of the natural light available. My advice is shoot in the middle of the day to get as much as possible the natural light. Here are some pics with my location.... http://badorgood.com/foto/pierduta-in-negura-vremii-360789/396198

SS is an agency that require to upload constantly in order to mantain/increase sales. is not like DT or FT
That's not the case for over a year
Like KuriousKat says.... some rules are not applying for everyone...
