Alamy.com / 1st sale in Alamy
« on: November 25, 2011, 11:59 »
Hello friends..
I am about to submit photos for alamy QC and curious to know how much longer did Alamy take to sell your 1st photo after your registration.
So lets share your experience with 1st sale in alamy and how big/small did you earn from that 1st sale...  and what makes you keep posting photos in Alamy ?
:-)
Do tell the portfolio size at the time of 1st sale comparing today's port size..

[1] yes, you upload first then you keyword etc (which I personally find time consuming and fairly difficult) and at that point, when you set your attributes, you choose RF or RM - but as noted above if you need but don't have MR or PR, it will be automatically RF.
NOTE: to protect yourself, if you're not sure whether a PR is needed, tick yes. Then the onus is 100% on the buyer.

[/quote]

I did not get you this time.. i thought that if i have no MR/PR then photo will go automatically to Editorial i.e RM but you said her it will go to RF (as for RF it is necessary to post releases)
 ???

I have another curiosity.. what currency should one set for payment in alamy,as they have option for GBP, Euro and USD.. i have chosen USD through paypal but as far as my country's currency is concerned, GBP has highest value for our currency.. so is it beneficial to choose GBP for me ? i asked so because i searched in alamy gallery and found the pix by the photographers from my country has value in GBP..so if anyone can suggest me about this as well....

and what is digitally altered option in submission page in alamy ? are change in contrast, brightness, noise removal etc basic things also come in "digital alteration" ? and does it affect the acceptance by Alamy ?

Thank you very much Sue for your well explained note.. I see what can i do in Alamy.   :)

Oh, sorry, a modifier to my answer to [2]: if your submission photos are accepted, they go directly into the collection, so you'll be asked when you keyword etc them if you have releases.

And just FI: I was almost 8 months/300 pics on Alamy before I got my first sale. YMMV.

So we have option there at the time of approval also whether photo is for editorial or RF  ? but its after the 4 images are accepted.. not during submission of pix in QC..right ?

and you could sold your image after 8 months while you had 300 pix collection ????

hello everyone,
I am planning to submit 4 (1st time) images for QC in Alamy. But i have few terms what i don't understand.
(1) What does RM (Right Management) category ? Does it mean that if we choose submit photo for RM then those photos must be exclusive (I mean is it related to become Exclusive Alamy photographs? )

Also bear in mind that if you have unreleased people, or even part of an unreleased dot of a person in shot, or any product which would need a property release (read up all you can about this if you're not sure. When in doubt, I always tick 'needs PR') and you haven't got releases, your picture will automatically be assinged as RM. You only have a choice of assigning RF to photos which have all the appropriate releases or don't need any.

[1]You mean without releases a photo with a person or some property will be included to "editorial" ? does it mean all editorials are essentially RM ?

[2]Another thing.. please tell do we need to submit releases with (4) photos in the approval procedure ?

[3] Which is safer.. posting a photo in RM/RF and which pays us more money RF/RM?

Thank you all friends for your valuable suggestion and response, Sorry that i could not replied you earlier.

Shutterstock now looks like this
Shutterstock 6.6 .23

The 6.6 is the rating which just means the average of everone's vote in the microstock poll is a 6.6.  It is a simple average where everyone's votes are equally weighted.

.23 is the change from last month and the arrow is the direction it changed.  so last month Shutterstock must of had a 6.37 rating and it has gome up .23 points.

oh greattt.. Thank you leaf for providing this knowledge  :) So most of the people like SS... good.

Thank you ShadySue for such a descriptive explanation. Let me ask once more to be sure that if i have sold a pic in exclusive RF licence in and then i get an offer for the same pic under RM licence then can i sell it now as RM or I will have to remove the pic from the gallery/stock itself for a specific period of time once i have sold it as any form of exclusivity ?

Paypal / New to paypal.. need help !
« on: November 20, 2011, 11:10 »
hello friends,
I just created a paypal account with an email ID. Now i have some curiosity. Please help me-

(1) When I need to link my paypal for reciving my payment (or other transitions) in a site like a microstock site... Do I have to give my complete email account to in desired place to receive payments to my paypal account or what ?

(2) My country currency is not mentioned in the lsit of currency in paypal... So do I have to convert the foreign currency into my local currency after recieving my payment or paypal automatically converts the foreign currency like dollar to my local/country currency ?

(3) Will I have to request for payment to paypal each time I get a payment in paypal or they themself transfer the money to my linked local bank account ? Though I have marked the option (while creating Paypal account) for automatic payment by paypal to bank. Yet want to confirm it.

(4) Can I withdraw money from my bank account by my ATM as i do usually once the payment has come to bank account or there is some different procedure to withdraw money from bank ?

I know friends.. It might seem silly for some of you but I am totally new to paypal and residing in a distant rural place. so none has any knowledge here about online money transfer, paypal,MB etc.
So i hope you wont mind me asking such questions here and will be helped by you all as i have been since i have joined this fabulous informative site.

Thanking you.

so it means we cant decide in SS approval stage whether we want to post a photo for RF(releases rquired) or Editorial (releases not required). Its like posting 10 images for RF only.. right ?

Microstock Services / Question about SS & IS approval steps-
« on: November 20, 2011, 08:58 »
Hello friends,
I am about to submit 10 and 3 photos for qualification round in SS & IS. I think I have few good pix of people out of which one has been accepted in DT for editorial as i don't have model releases for them.
So i want to know from you guys that do we need to submit the model/property releases along with these 10 (for SS) and 3 (for IS) photographs for approval procedures ?

Thank you.

369
thank you casoly for suggestion. I should concentrate first on top tiers 1st and should get a good collection of images. :-)

(2) If we fail to qualify for 1st and 2nd time then after how many days can we submit again for QC for 2nd and 3rd attempts ?
(3) Is it necessary or good to be exclusive for Alamy. I mean if we submit a photo to Alamy then we should not submit the same pic for any other micro/macro stock site ?

I hope I may get answers to my doubts here.
Thanking you in advance.

thanks Attila :-)

most of my RF portfolio is nature, landscapes & travel - both specific sites and details [architectural details like corinthian capitals, mullioned windows, etc]  these still get accepted by SS & DT and do sell, but notin large numbers

there are many sites that will take any imagers that are technically correct [gl, most, dp, yay, feature, et al]  but the problem there is they dont produce many sales at all.  i only submit to thee lower level sites that make it easy - no sites that require a category for each image, etc

my editorial images sell much better but have a smaller potential audience.
thanks cascoly. could you mention which particular lower level sites are you talking about ?  what about photodune... how is sell there ?

373
thank you for your replies and suggestions guys...
@ya Gennet you are right. I am a doctor and photography is my hobby so definitely i should enjoy photography with what subjects i like. Today itself i met few photographers who prefer subjects what i like and i saw their links of microstock sites and their photographs on these subjects (old or newly submitted) are stiil sold. like Eco said about his collections.. but obviously they should be different from others.. if photos of others subjects like of people are also based on old themes what stocks have already having in millions then i think they will not accept such pix as well. so its quality what finally matters.
but has DT been really strict on these themes..? as photographers whom i chat do tell me that earlier DT used to accept such pix in frequently but don't now... whereas SS do accept.. i think customers in SS are bit more nature lover lol i can see that most searched keywords are butterfly, dragonfly and mountains :-)

@CoisaX.
You are in SS and IS :-) that is sufficient to tell that your photography would be really well and stock oriented. But please tell me that did you get selected in these 2 sites with birds and macro shots ?or what type of photographs did you submit Der approval ?
I think (may be wrong) that 3 sample photos as still better and easy (for IS) than to get selected with 10 (ok 7) photos in SS.
What do you think guys ?
