This month Fotolia is racing ahead. I have had a great month there so far, making three times the earnings on Shutterstock, which has always been my best site in the past. Keep going Fotolia!

I sometimes get stage fright just before shooting a wedding. So much depends on me! Once I start shooting things are (usually) fine though.

we are definitely a global economy , no doubt. i notice lots of you from europe, and asia. but what many of us may not notice is the hidden benefits of being part of the "foreign exchange". eg. a commission from ScanStock of 1 EURO is definitely more to us "americans" than 25 cents from IStock. sure, i read that IS has more buyers, but we are talking about 1.56 vs 0.25 for one download. i also noticed that "euros" seem to do much better here, and perharps, vice versa with euro sites for us americans. by americans, i include canada, usa, brazil, latin am,... as i know many of you come from s . am, and c. am. so, here's my topic for this thread: what's your benefit for being the "foreigner" ? is our grass much greener on this side of the world?
Your grass looks a bit brown and overgrazed from here!

It's also true and a proven fact: If you stand on one leg while you rub your stomach with one hand, and pat your head with the other, while reciting "Mary had a little lamb" you will increase your chances of downloads for the day by 63% on iStock.
This I know to be true.
Cranky MIZ The voice of reason
I tried the effectiveness of reciting 'Baa Baa Black sheep' and also 'Ring a ring of Roses'. neither gave results as beneficial to my pocket as 'Mary had as little lamb'. My actual increase over the day was 0.111%. Thanks Miz.

I thought the same as UncleGene. All of the stock sites that I do my calcualtions for, have been offered all of my images. The fact that they refused some of them is relevant and affects the profit returned from that site. My spreadsheets calculate on total images offered, which is why I have not entered my figures.

Interesting. I spent a lot of time reading the articles on that site. Thanks for the link.

I second that. I have no time for burning images to DVD and posting them. How often should it be done, for every batch? I can set FTP uploads to work overnight and forget it. I am sure there are many like me, and you are missing out on good images. Currently SV is near the last on my list for uploading, and only if I can be bothered. It should not be like that, and FTP uploading is a must.

0.04. May was a very poor month on BS. I was way down on earnings compared to the previous six months, and I uploaded quite a few.

Really funny. You forgot the hammer to smash those cameras that refuse to take stockworthy pictures.

I expect it to take a while before we see significant sales, but I really wish them luck with the launch. The professional way they have conducted themselves so far has been a delight.
Snapvillage take note of how it should have been done!

I have seen quite a few examples of site reps responding to postings in this forum in the last year or so. The sites do read what we are discussing.

Istock have fallen way behind for me. They don't like my illustrations, so my portfolio is much smaller there. Shame, because they sell really well on the other sites.

It happened to me too, but with only one file out of a batch of six. I resubmitted it and it was approved in minutes. Very odd!

Interesting. On the other hand, go to photocase and do a search on 'business'
go ahead.
I did. Thats laughable! .....(and a bit sad really)

I am expecting my overall earnings at istock to drop when subs take effect. A lot of the buyers who pay full price now will move to the subscription package. I also expect sales at Shutterstock to drop as their customers go to explore the exclusive images at istock, but I think most will return once they have downloaded a couple of months worth!

I really hate keywording. I wish when microstock started a few years back, that it had stared with the sites doing the keywording. We would all take it for granted by now that they did it for us. We would still have a good old moan, and we would have even more to post about on here.
One thing you didn't mention, I hate putting images into categories. We are supplying the goods for sale, the sites should be setting up the displays and deciding where to put the goods.

Sorry Miz, I don't think humming at them will work. Email has better results.

Email them and explain what happened. They are very approachable and helpful.

It sounds like you had a great trip. Welcome back. I am looking forward to seeing some pictures. Are you posting the not-stock pictures anywhere? They are often more interesting than the stock one's!
