General Stock Discussion / Re: Tax season 2017
« on: February 18, 2017, 15:43 »
It was discussed more fully here: http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/us-tax-form-1099-misc-which-agencies-have-issued/

But when did you get the Adobe one - was that in the mail or online somewhere? I'm waiting on that. I'm not sure I got a 1099 from 123RF in either 2014 or 2015.

Steve

If you go to 123rf's Tax Center you should see a link to download your 2015 1099 -
the 2016 is not ready yet, they told me it should be ready by the end of the month.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Withholding tax
« on: February 15, 2017, 01:09 »
According to the tax e-mail from Canva, one can claim back the withholding tax in one's country. Does this apply to other agencies US withholding tax too?

If your country has a tax treaty with the US then you can offset the tax you've had withheld, against the tax you have to pay in your own country. It's not like they'll send you a cheque or anything, you'll just get a discount on what you're due. Exactly how you do that will vary depending on where you're from, so you should speak to an accountant.

As for 30% for Britain... the tax treaty with the US has a 0% withholding rate, so if you've submitted a W8 with your foreign tax ID (Unique Taxpayer Reference or National Insurance number), then they shouldn't be withholding anything.

not correct they are withholding 10% for US contributors

They told me that 1099's won't be ready until the end of Feb.

Had to get a new computer and my Envato password isn't working.  I have gone thru the forgotten password procedure twice with no luck.  Now they've booted me off the site.  Not sure I'll ever be able to find the page where they listed what they took out.  I know I was at 40% level,  so presumably 60% of total recorded, but no proof for the IRS if I should need it.

PM the guy from PD in the other thread

and
FT came in the mail last week as well

123rf tells me theirs will be ready by the end of Feb (late as usual)

I got out of PD a while back over the non-industry standard way they decided to report taxes.

But honestly do they really think anyone who has been tossed out like this to re-apply?

Incredibly arrogant stance by them.

And maybe it's designed to keep us from checking our stats so often.

The email on the 19th said we should get the details between the 1st and 3rd February. Nothing for me yet either.

It's the 2nd - what could be more between the 1st and 3rd.

Still no replies from ShutterStock or BigStock on this guy.

They need to do a better job of handling these thieves.

Totally agree with what everyone is saying - not a great presentation for many reasons...
But it's also poor execution of a concept.
If it's a book on learning Spanish why isn't there a translation of the words not just words repeated in Spanish?

Canva / Re: Contributor update about tax
« on: January 31, 2017, 09:22 »
The part that concerns me is

You do not need to complete any forms, but you do need to keep us informed about your country of registration. And the end of each Australian tax year (June 30) we will send you a document listing the tax withheld that you can use to claim credit from the tax authorities in your country.

That doesn't coincide with the tax year for the USA - so I'm not sure how we are going to report this.

So in April 2018 I'll have a document showing only 6 months of withholding.
Then in April 2019 I will have a document showing the withholding for half of 2017 and half of 2018?

The costs for the extra tax forms my accountant is going to have to fill out will probably negate the refund I'll get for claiming the tax payments.

I started and earlier thread but this one seem to have caught on first
http://www.microstockgroup.com/bigstock-com/another-thief-29228/msg478158/?topicseen#new

I found one of my images and reported to both BS and SS.

Your list isn't inclusive enough.

370
My last five images accepted (today) at SS have been moved via Bridge to my BS portfolio.
But that leaves about 70 images that are still missing from the last month or so.

To set the record straight, 2 cents is a worst case scenario and shouldn't happen very often. You need to let the transition go into effect and see what happens. A lot of situations with the buyer have to line up for you to have a 2 cent sale.

Once is too often!
