I like your example, but making a profit in one year is nearly imposible. My average return on investment is currently about 30 months and Im the worlds best!
seriously? never heard of that before!
or are we talking about the Arcurs, Yuri Arcurs - the top selling microstock photographer??
do we actually need to read this interview once again?

the conversion cuts happen on DT, FT and SS (actually we will never know that because they only have % in sod/footage).. and perhaps a ton other.. I am sure Lee will continue to fight this

and PLEASE lets not forget they are still advertising something they arent doing
buyer that get plans in EUR we are actually getting from 22.34% to 22.63% NOT the 25% buyer that get plans in POUND we are actually getting 22.21% NOT the 25%
how hard can it be to make some conversions?

I repeat the previous picture had DT watermark
OK, I'm not familiar with DT, so you'll need to help me. On DT, there's a big watermark down at the bottom right hand side.
and TOP (it has a round/circle shape around the picture)

A bit over 1 year in microstock here, this is how I see it:
Microstock getting more and more infested with hobbysits celebrating every penny they make. Agencies supporting those hobbyists and treat us alike, making it easier to do as they please and squeeze even more out of us. These hobbyists try their best to defend just about every bad thing that happens at an agency because they think their sales will magically go up, making the agency conclude their is nothing wrong, case closed. More underpaid and unqualified reviewers that do not care if some contributors make a living from this but punish their direct competition or use the rejection button as a tool (toy) to speed up their work. Because of contributors/images overload more site/server bugs that will negatively affect our sales. Even less (automated) support then what we already receive and more sneaky actions behind the scenes.
Something positive? let's see..uh.the existance of this forum so we can at least put the word out and try to do something about all this. Of course the majority will not put their voice out because of fear for retaliation (why do you think I'm still anonymous) or lack of time (too busy trying to survive in this business) and therefore also contribute to the downfall of this business. That's why I also hate to read many threads that are filled with contributors flaming eachother or think by being an .ss they will somehow eliminate their competition (on the contrary).
Good times! Now for all those big shots complaining about small potatoes, try to imagine how hard it is for us newcomers to make it in this business 2005 was a joke!
I do hope things will change for the better, that's why I'm still here, but from what I have been reading from long time contributors I highly doubt this will happen, on the contrary, it seems to get worse by the day.
Take care all and sorry for my english, it's not my native language.
keep on digging my friend, don't forget to hammer some on the way too

I disagree with this theory. I have plenty of friends that are a blast to spend the weekend with, but I probably would not want to enter into a long term business relationship with them. On the flip side, I'm sure there are plenty of shrewd and savvy businessmen that would be great for business, but not necessarily the most enjoyable company for a weekend.
I do agree about using your gut though when it comes to trusting somebody. Sometimes there are obvious red flags.
totally! +1 sad there were no numbers, figures or other data so we can squeeze in/into

1 picture / 1 year - 182.77$ in 19 sales (9.62$ rpd) - 1.58 times per month
interesting numbers, I am sure you would have made that on SS only (I also believe its better to sell only 19 times than perhaps 360)
I know you havent questioned anything but I found this curious

But no, I don't think he will be putting the micros out of business.
total sales
2009: 20842437 2010: 21752185 2011: 18466282 (today and tomorrow left) (-15%)
even if Yuri had his 1.4 M in 2011, iStock made a few more downloads 18.4 Millions, so 17 M

He may also be maxing out on his main subject matter of happy, shiny business, beach, spa, family photos. I mean, how many ways can you shoot that stuff? I see he also has some food shots and concept images. Huh? I thought this was People Images. Ok, so sell that other stuff and music and video but... um perhaps peopleimages.com is a limiting URL?
searching "people" 72328 results
3615
« on: July 15, 2012, 17:33 »
The search results say about 9 thousand exclusive of 75 thousand images, or 12% exclusive.
But that percentage will increase, right? I mean, he's not uploading to other sites since he started pplimages, at least that's how I understood that project when it was leaked
you need to read more often he is back on SS, FT (both with over 1k files in the last month) and iStock only audio nothing in DT

I seriously dont think Yuri has 80k files of the same thing, thats far from accurate and actually unfair, not a Yuri fan but browsing his collection you can see tons of different subjects and people ages, not going to say what are those subjects but they arent just 4 or 5

that said we know that "most buyers" will shop around so I dont see him recovering the 3.4 Million $ "invested" in a short period of time unless his buyers are just nuts about it and buy his exclusive collection massively once that is the only "advantage" he has, advantage if he is actually selling if not he is actually losing money..
How much of his collection on his website is exclusive to his website?
when it started they were 7k pictures, now 8440 from 74763, 11.29% he has also 419 free images (192 from NASA) http://peopleimages.com/search#exclusive:yes

I haven't been able to access the dashboard (other parts of the site work) since last weekend or so. It's really not of much concern as sales are so sluggish there, but I find it rather telling that they leave something broken for so long - and no blog entry or any other indication this matters to them in any way...
I should have waited for your post

What have these (probably very nice, intelligent) people actually done to you directly? A completely unwarranted attack, as far as I can see.

True, that if they really got a license (which in fact i doubt), right?
Why would you doubt it?
the picture on the blog has DT watermark

1 - micro price collection (60154 files from 3$ to 35$) which is more expensive than all stock agencies, istock regular indie from 1$ to 23$ 2 - pure+ collection (5878 excusive files from 4$ to 75$) which is more expensive than the regular exclusive collection at iStock (4$ to 28$) 3 - premium collection (8311 excusive files from 45$ to 670$) which is A LOT more expensive than the exclusive + collection (12$ to 60$) and a LOT more expensive than the vetta collection (35$ to 160$)
Yuri have advantage against all exclusive, exclusive+, vetta or even the "cheap" regular indie/exclusive? big NO (not in terms of price and diversity thats for sure)
that said we know that "most buyers" will shop around so I dont see him recovering the 3.4 Million $ "invested" in a short period of time unless his buyers are just nuts about it and buy his exclusive collection massively once that is the only "advantage" he has, advantage if he is actually selling if not he is actually losing money..

hope we are all here to watch it, kind off hard to predict IMO for sure agencies will continue to approve new stuff, they will obviously do regular cleanings too, dont believe that after 20 Millions buyer will be excited to know they have "now" 100 M to find their perfect picture, not to mention that only the top contributors will survive but again we know how best matches change so I believe we can't predict even tomorrow sales
