Actually, no, I decided it was in my best interest to close the account. I'm now making an occasional sale at Alamy, and some SODs at SS, and realized I was probably only hurting myself by having the same images available elsewhere for vastly lower prices, even though my sales at PD were few. I closed at another low-earner today as well.
do you really think you are damaging your sales by having your files in PD? seriously, are you a brand already?

Keywords of the standard, as many agencies. Google has indexed. But the site at page 100000000. Optimization of the search will soon be done
oh boy! I will explain again there is a program per example (statcounter) you can google it and register an account and you will add your website, after that it will track the visitors coming into your website, you will see where they come from (country, age, etc), what keywords have they googled, how long have they stayed on the website, what was the exit page (last page before leaving your website) etc etc

leaf, how is it going with cmsaccount?
and is it better than ktools? I currently have cmsaccount but would upgrade to ktools if it's any better..
Thanks for the thoughts. Now you are making me reconsider ktools again. The starting design on cmsaccount is quite a bit nicer IMO but it seems a bit of a pain to edit the template. I'll work on it a bit more today and see if I can get it working the way I want. The back end seems quite well coded and things generally work well. The price is also great.

You propose to close the restaurant? If without laughing, 2 weeks is enough time ?
I think something was lost in translation.
Good luck with the site. I think everyone should build there own.
I believe he is saying if you are suggesting him to drop the website and if it is possible to have sales in 2 weeks only

Keywords like everyone else. 500 visitors per month
ahahahaha I am talking about the keywords searched in google, in my blog perhaps I have many like "louis santos blog", "shutterstock review", "earnings stock" do you have something tracking it? statcounter works pretty well, I have the free version only

You propose to close the restaurant? If without laughing, 2 weeks is enough time ?
how many visits are you getting daily? any? how do you think "buyers" are getting into your website? what are your stats like google searches and such, what are the keywords?

I want to make a section for photos (phones, video stills, webcam, grinders and other devices which are able to take pictures) Who thinks that?
what for? I believe it is a lot of stuff to market, why dont you first try and get some buyers for pictures? then you can think of editorial, illustrations, audio, footage, cell photos and 3d too

What a pathetic attempt to drive traffic to his site...
looks like it's working. what would be nice is if the OP, instead of posting the link, actually copied the text and posted it here. that way, the blogger gets one hit instead many, just from this forum alone.
will do it next time

In the last three years I have uploaded less than 900 files. Half of those were leftovers from older shootings. Basically I am not an active contributor for many reasons.
So for "not really working" to get around 2000 USD (on average between istock+getty+thinkstock) is a very good income IMO and I am grateful.
I will be more active in the coming months, but what I find very scary is people who are uploading 1500 good files a year and reporting a loss in downloads and royalties. So I am not sure if I really should make a big push at shooting and uploading or if it is better to look at other income streams first and accept that even with regular uploads Ill probably be stuck with the returns I am getting now.
thanks for sharing! I understand what you mean but in the past you made a lot more no?

I wonder why they always quote the lowest amount we ever get. They never seem to mention the average $5 (at SS) OD download, or the $16.80 other downloads or the ELs. Last month I made about $.70 per download. With a stagnant port and no effort. Think what I could do if I really tried.
Same reason everyone at IS makes $.19 a download
You mean $.07 don't you?
People always do seem to grab the numbers that appear to make their points though. It would be nice if we had and people used more meaningful statistics - like the average or mean or something.
the serious ones do, not this case for sure

I'm not really sure why Shutterstock was singled out, and some of the "facts" seem more like assumptions. That said, I can't say I disagree with the basic premise. We are underrepresented and underpaid at most agencies, and I do think there are inherent flaws in the micro model.
I agree and seriously think they could come up with a better deal but after so many crap from all agencies why would they? June 0.52$ All time 0.49$ (very few EL) 1.83$ left to last level

Those doing well are far less likely to report their stats.
Believe me, I would happily report an increase in sales. Nothing would please me more than to report iStock is finally giving exclusives the support they need to survive. Unfortunately my sales figures show otherwise:
Compared to June 2011:
$ -20.5% DL -45%
Compared to June 2010:
$ -23.3% DL - 65%
At least it's not that bad for you as it was in the past months
that gonna be a very bad joke.. fotoVoyager is doing less 23.3% $ of what he have made 2 years ago with less 2466 files (representing a 29% portfolio increase)

He is spot on, no one makes a living at micro, no one should be contributing to it. If you do you are evil and hate art. Everyone stop contributing to the "cancer" that is microstock. Thank you, that is all.
but in the end he tell us to write a letter to SS asking for better pricing etc..

It would be nice to see a comparable pie chart with the reported results from msg. I know that because of the low amount of data it may not tell the real picture but if someone was to follow this over a longer time period I think it would give interesting insights.
I am really worried that exclusives might be leaving or simply deciding to focus on other business and stop uploading (without officially giving up exclusivity).
Without the exclusive collections, what is the reason to prefer istock over the competitors? I believe the collections plus a lot of very interesting content from Getty (Hulton Archive etc...) is the thing that will attract a certain type of clients that are willing to pay more.
So I hope that there still is enough new talent choosing to go exclusive, to keep istock fresh and interesting. I know it is not for everyone, but some people and their portfolios are doing extremely well at istock, inspite of all the negativity. I hope by next year Ill be one of them (again).
you are one of the biggest examples of iStock disgrace, having 60k downloads all time and only 150 sales in June is just incredible, dont know how you can keep up the faith in them really..

Because most of the microstock agency's free image offerings are akin to red-diesel (agricultural grade), yes it'll 'do the job', but it's not going to be good for your engine Not true!
The only difference is they add red to it so they can differentiate between the two and charge tax on the regular undyed diesel other then that they are the same and it doesn't hurt your engine.
how many types of "clients" there are in micro(stock)? - the ones who stole (leaving watermark or removing it, google) - the ones who will get the free pics and leave (ex: new bloggers without any budget) - the ones that might pay for it but would appreciate it for free - the ones that will pay for it and use it in unproper ways - the ones that will really respect the agencies/contributors licenses etc that said if we give more and more our work for free it will certainly damage us, yep those are the crappy "potential buyers" but if they havent got them for free they would perhaps pay for it, if not, thats their problem even if serious buyers/designers could get our pictures for free they would love it, so lets not give them a/that chance

Luis make that graph for indies as well. I'm interested to see what story it tells, the comparison
there were only 8 indies reporting there (2 +, 1 ok, 5 -) so far (and perhaps always) the universe here at MSG is quite small more stats for istock exclusives, from the 79 entries: - 32 have less than 10k downloads - 10 from 10k to 17k downloads - 16 from 20k to 36k downloads - 14 from 57k to 96k downloads - 4 from 120k to 190k downloads - 3 have more than 260k downloads
