General Stock Discussion / Re: October Earnings« on: November 01, 2014, 12:57 »
Not a great month in dollars.
Once again SS is tops, bringing in 58% of the income. This month was interesting.... not a lot of "big" sales, but individual downloads were way up - like 25%, when I looked back the last time I had more individual sales was November 2011. Would have been an incredible month with SS if more of the sales were OD/SOD/EL! 378

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock vs Istockphoto reviewers« on: October 13, 2014, 14:57 »
I seem to get most Shutterstock rejections on the weekend and of course, only about 5% of the time I can accept the reason. When I looked at a reviewer job posting it requested full time reviewers work at least 5 hours on the weekend... that would leave them reviewing while either drunk or hungover, resenting their job while the family is having fun, or struggling with their children home from school and fighting like only siblings can fight...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sept 2014 Microstock Earnings Breakdown« on: October 01, 2014, 10:13 »
I had my first very decent month in about 15 months. Gosh, I'm almost motivated to shoot some stock again!
The problem is, 63% of earnings were from SS. The SS income was curiously almost evenly split 4 ways between Subs, OD, EL and SOD. Haven't had this many total downloads since 2011. All of the sites were up a bit excluding DT. Cummon DT!!! What is the problem? It looks like they will be down 15-20% from 2013 if I don't have 3 spectacular months. 387

It comes up as 3 credits in ie. Look at your second shot and note that it is a different size also. Would this be a cache thing?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Are you considering dropping an agency?« on: September 26, 2014, 16:21 »
I stopped uploading to Featurepics when they announced a 2 year hold on photos. Problem is unless I upload I will be grey before I hit payout. I'm sitting at $39 and have only made $15.54 this entire calendar, most of that is from referrals - it's absolutely ridiculous. I hate to walk away from ANY money but I can't wait to close this account.

Shutterstock.com / Re: $4.06 SODs« on: September 22, 2014, 09:47 »
SS sent a message that a "company that makes bread" was looking for a particular photo number and they asked if I would consider turning on SOD's until it was downloaded. The pay would be $140 so yupp, I turned it on (and haven't turned it off since). I wondered if it was the attached from Dunkin Donuts, but couldn't find the image used anywhere else with them. Can't imagine why it would be $140 vs $28. We don't have DD here, so I don't know if it was tied to a campaign or not.
It's a very good day when you wake up to $140 sales isn't it! Have had plenty of reg sub value SOD's though too. 392

General Stock Discussion / Re: PayPal 1099s coming back to haunt us« on: September 14, 2014, 12:51 »
In Canada I had a similar problem with Istock. I claimed the income and then a month after taxes deadline Istock sent T5's with the statement of income. I ignored it, but Rev Can adjusted not only my taxes but my husband's also and sent us invoices for overdue taxes and penalties. All I had to do is phone (and sit on hold for half a day), print and complete a form (sorry Canadians, it was from another computer). They explained that in future tax years, if this happens to include this form in with my package that I remit.
I know... different country.. different rules. But if Paypal sends the 1099's during your tax season, surely there must be a similar form from IRS that you complete and remit with your tax filing? You really can't ignore forms like this, the gov always gets a duplicate and may work slowly - but you will surely hear from them. 394

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is Dreamstime Only Accepting Exclusive Images?« on: September 10, 2014, 13:00 »Quote Non-exclusive contributors: A non-exclusive contributor is an artist who uploads Media that are also available for sale with other stock agencies. These contributors may upload their Media to Dreamstime.com while selling the same Media through other channels. Non-exclusive contributors shall receive 25-50% of the net sale price received by Dreamstime.com for the Media they have contributed to the site which are subsequently sold by Dreamstime.com. But... when you upload there is a tick box for exclusive vs non exclusive. See if your friend has ticked non-exclusive. 396

Shutterstock.com / Re: How are sales going?- Shutterstock« on: September 06, 2014, 18:12 »...I only have had one large question....What happened in mar 2013 when, for years it was rock solid and only fluctuated a few dollars instead of hundreds of dollars, And I question this for one reason. why did it happen so quickly? According to my poor notes-I quit Istock in March 2013. It was over the free images deal. A factor would be that I wasn't the only one - although I wasn't exclusive, they lost a lot of exclusives. 398

Newbie Discussion / Re: How much I should charge for a picture used as background scenery on a TV set« on: September 04, 2014, 12:16 »The picture is a night shot of a commercial street of Old Quebec decorated for Christmas time. It is a reasonably unique image and the person said to me he want to have it enlarge 12' X12' and frame as a background windows for a TV show. At first, he said it will be for one season but later on he said he might use the picture for many years and he would like to purchase the images for use in perpetuity Does that mean it will still be Old Quebec in the show - Canadian television ain't Hollywood. There is a lot less money in a Canadian budget. If a show is picked up with an American network it likely won't be until after the 1st season. Canadian dramas rarely last more than a season, although 1/2 hour comedies have been fairly successful. "In perpetuity" means something quite different if it will portray an American background! 400
