Someone finally capitalized on a flaw that has been obvious since they lowered the ratings value in best match searches and they banned them? Even though they hijacked the best match results I don't think they should have been banned. People are always trying to find ways to "beat the system", in every endeavor. As devious as it may have been, this seemed like it was within the rules.
I know you can't download your own images but is there a rule that you can't purchase a friends?

Why this hasn't been pointed out before baffles me.... and just for fun, the same reviewer accepted numbered images at the same time. Now they're just messing with me head!!
And you know that it was the same reviewer how? As I understand it, IS uses a system where the reviews request images and get them in in batches of 20 or so from the queue. They then review them. If they don't review all of them the ones they don't review get returned to the queue. It is very possible that the one that was rejected went to a different reviewer. There is no way to know.

I had a photo that was free photo of the week about a year ago on iStock. After that free week it became my most downloaded photo (for money). It also increased the sales of photos that I linked to it while it was the free download.
To each their own.

I found that one funny because the guy must have died right on a border somewhere. They say the guy "died inter-state" (the correct term for dieing without a will is intestate). That being said, it appears the Greek scam artists have a better command of the English language than the Nigeria ones.

Miss Teen USA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
That poor girl.
When I first saw it I thought poor education system, not poor girl. That girl got more press than the actual winner.

Yes it does. Of course. As the dollar goes down imported goods from overseas become more expensive. If the overseas manufacturers cannot keep prices stable with efficiency then prices will go up and America gets inflation (which is what the Fed wants).
But I keep seeing statistics which say that 70% of Americans have never travelled overseas and do not even have a passport.......
1) The Fed does not want inflation. In fact, that has been enemy number one for the Fed since we went off the gold standard. 2) Most of the goods consumed by Americans aren't made in America, so the devaluation of the dollar has a large effect on all Americans, even the ones that don't travel. I do believe the 70% stat (I'm one of the 30% and I travel every year). After all 1/5 of Americans can't locate the US on a map, so you can't expect us to go overseas when we wouldn't be able to find our way home Miss Teen USA

Its a real problem for those of us who live in other countries (which is why the US Government is allowing it to happen).
You don't think this effects Americans too?

That doesn't really look like her other than her ethnicity (the proportions are off). As long as you don't use her name as a keyword I think you're fine.

What exactly are we losing?
P.S. Currency traders don't expect the dollar to bottom for a while, and the loon isn't going to depreciate any time soon given the demand for oil and timber.

This is an unethical practice called skimming. They do it all the time in Australia, and wonder why people buy stuff overseas and import.
I don't think it is either unethical or skimming. It is could be import tarriffs, or hedging against exchange rate fluctuations, or a combination. Everyone one does it because they could go broke if they didn't.

in this instance I can't see how istock can fight for the exclusive images only as the stolen images bear the istock logo whether they are exclusive or not. It's not a case of Istock being able to say..maybe they got it somewhere else
Where do you see an iStock logo? Other than the guy's links to where he got the photos from, where do you see the iStock logo in the composition?

But how about the images that appear on the frontpage? Or in the lightboxes?
What about them?

I have just decided to run a test. I searched for "yellow car", photos only. Here is what I found in the first 20 images:
It may be just a happy coincidence, so I will try other tests another time. Kudos to DT for this one, though.
Regards, Adelaide
What did this test show about SS favoring some artists over others in the search? As for the original topic. I highly doubt SS would purposely favor one artist over another. The much more likely explanation is that buyers like the one artist's work over the other's, and that is reflected in the search results.

rather than providing snippets just for the point of rocking the boat why don't you educate everyone with the four factor test, etc., etc. ... To blatantly say "we can do anything we want" or "educational institutions are exempt and can, and do, use anything" is like writing a blank check - it isn't true.
Well I had two choices, either provide a "snippet" where people could go and look up fair use on their own. Or I could write a long drawn out explanation. Didn't have time for the latter, so went with the former. For instance, if I did a long drawn out explanation I'd also have to include a discussion on governmental immunity since many educational institutions in this country are state institutions that have not been exempted from sovereign immunity. However, I like your example.

Or, at least, it perfectly demonstrates that our pictures can be "stolen". They possibly can, but it must not be an easy task, if it meant cracking the site.
It's doesn't really look like he cracked the site. The youtube video seems to show a simple technique of using the zoom in feature to extract the full file without the watermark. Process: zoom into each portion of the file take a screen shot, zoom all the way back out, then zoom in again only a little to the side. This allows you to get full rez of the image without the water mark by editing the photo together using the portions of the screenshots that didn't contain the watermark. All he did was create a program to automatically do this. I've always thought this would be possible so I've never liked that iStock (and a bunch of other sites) allowed zoom in.

I don't know how it is in other countries, but here in the U.S., educational institutions aren't exempt from stealing people's images. They can use any image under an "editorial" license (no model release required) but they cannot blatantly steal an image from a photographer and use it however or whenever they want. This is one of the main reasons I refuse to sell editorial images under a RF license - I have plenty being offered at various RM agencies available under an RM license.
Um since you do live in the US you could be familar with the uniquely US common law of "Fair Use", as long as they don't use them in advertising educational institutions pretty much can use your image without your permission.

I can make it go clockwise, anti-clockwise or swing from left to right and back again. I takes me quite a bit of concentration to make it happens. Try looking to your right to the edge of the page and look at the image out of the corner of your left eye and then the opposite with the other eye and she should change directions. Or look at the feet and imagine that they are going in the other direction and then they should suddenly change.
That works, but only until I move my head back. I really don't think it reflects on whether you're right or left brained.

I'm not seeing any increase in rejections... I've been submitting there for almost three years.
As for getting 2 out of a bunch of zodiac images rejected, the dirty little secret of IS is that you resubmit in a couple of weeks and they will probably be accepted. Different inspector, different results. I've even had IS inspectors tell me to do this rather than fight it through Scout.
Can you do this with photos that have "no resubmit" in the rejections list? I have a few that have sold really well on other sites and have been turned down for not being good stock with IS.
that is what he is basically saying to do, however if you get caught there could be repercussions.

Out of the group I polled, nobody only sees her only going counter-clockwise.
I did the same thing. I think this is a hoax. (mainly because I can't see her moving counter-clockwise). If you asked her if she is moving left or right, it would be right. Same if you look at here from a downward angle as the image forces you do to since you can see the top of her head. Can anyone see her actually moving counter-clockwise?

In their latest update they said they were switching (if you read it carefully). They say their switching away from the Master-Slave configuration, meaning away from MySQL.
