Contrary to common belief, Singapore is actually very affordable. Average cost for a meal in a food court 2-3$, rental can be as low as 200-300$, of course you can also have a luxury apartment for 30 times of that price. Great public transport, no need for a car. Best healthcare in the world and very heavily subsidized even for foreigners. Great services. For photography: diverse ethnicity, short fly to anywhere in Asia. I lived there for 8 years and now kicking myself everyday for not staying there.
hahah what

just to rent one ROOM in singapore is between 700 and 1200 SGD. if you want a studio apartment, it's more like 2000 SGD. that's not luxury. and in europe for the same surface you pay around 400 euro. i mean, depending on the location, center of paris/london will be more expensive, but in singapore everything's expensive except i guess the far east/nortwest.

public transport is crap, especially if you have a transfer at jurong east

that food you mention for 2/3$ is crap.

Bigstock.com / Re: BigStock Selling HD Videos for $0.15 !!
« on: November 13, 2014, 09:20 »
Lol.

I've never pulled my portfolio from any agency, not from iStock with their shenanigans, not from FT or DP. I just stopped uploading. But now I'm at a point that I don't even care anymore and BS might be the first to lose my portfolio. Not a big blow to them (especially since I stopped uploading there a year ago), but I'll feel like I did something.

For me just the opposite: sales are growing.

But I wish they did something with the site, it looks like it's straight from 1999. :(

Dreamstime.com / % we get from DT subscriptions?
« on: November 12, 2014, 09:11 »
I've found this here (http://www.dreamstime.com/credits), where it seems buyer can buy an "All-at-once subscription" for 31 and get 5 images per week.

I'm wondering what's the amount that we get per image - 0.35$ or something higher?

Because if it's the former, then what's exactly the difference between this and DP(C)?

1)

"Amateur images do not sell well in todays market. So you can expect a poor revenue per image per month of about 20 cents."

I'm an amateur, but I know for a fact that I earn more than some full-time photographers, and my RPI is couple of times larger than that value.

2)

I tried to use the algorithm for my previous year, putting in the numbers I had in July 2013 and the estimated RPI yadda yadda, and it doesn't really work well because images don't scale in a linear fashion, every image has a half-life, and it's not good at predicting even with a large sample size, at least for me. I'm not sure who can find this useful except a maths/statistics teacher in elementary school. I wouldn't base any decisions on this (and don't) and I think neither should you.

3)

As this is a product from the guys at StockPerformer, it'd be much more interesting to use the sales and trends data they have in order to construct a model which more closely resembles reality, maybe even a personalized model based on the sales history of the person registered at SP. Here, you get a free business idea, you're welcome.

General Stock Discussion / Re: New images vs Old images
« on: November 03, 2014, 08:53 »
I consider "old" everything that is over 1 year old.

On SS, files uploaded in the last year account for 50% of my income.

Umm...

"CLUC" stole images from iStock exclusive contributor Mark Evans (mevans):

Oh.. that's a bummer. I didn't know about this. Dang. :/

General Stock Discussion / Re: October Earnings
« on: November 01, 2014, 14:27 »
Excellent month for me at SS (in fact, the third excellent month in a row and BME except for that one freak month about a year ago when I made two $100 sales on one day)

Decent month at Alamy.

Pretty much nothing of note with all the rest.

It's that freak month to me. I had an array of SOD's on SS, making it my BME.

Umm... you can actually buy a license on PSDgraphics for commercial use http://www.psdgraphics.com/commercial-use/
I'm not sure if that includes reselling (after slight edits).

PhotoDune / Re: I'm Done with Envato
« on: October 31, 2014, 16:44 »
My acceptance rate is, I guess, around 95%. I guess I provide what they consider their library needs.
Sales could be better, but having in mind that I signed up to PhotoDune (and CanStock)  in order to replace BigStock (where I quit uploading because of poor results) and already have 4-6 times more revenue from PD alone, I can't say I'm not pleased.

Maybe PD has a specific demographic they cater to, I guess their reviewers are not mentally handicapped, but provide feedback depending on the needs of the library and pre-selected criteria. PD to me seems like a very modern agency going in the right direction, and I'm pumped to see what new they have in store. Hopefully some spending will also go to marketing, so we see an additional boost of sales. :)

Thanks for this info, Robert. I'm not sure if I'll continue uploading there. SS, iStock, FT and DT are around 90% of my monthly earnings anyway and I don't have to deal with this if I don't want to.

Ok, so it might be worth it to continue uploading (from a business standpoint)?

I'm also interested to know this.

Although I'm not sure I'd consider uploading even if the royalty really was increased to 44%.

« on: October 26, 2014, 06:03 »
I have one question for the people who opted-in to DPC: are your files locked into DPC for some period of time or you can instantly deactivate them and activate if you want?

Is last week pretty horrible to everyone or just me?

I mean, in the graph which shows overall earnings, there's a small drop, but in the "earnings from new content", it fell to like 20% of it's normal value.

Stock Performer / Re: Is Stock Performer 100% safe ?
« on: October 23, 2014, 11:48 »
I have no doubt that my money accounts are 100% safe! But what is happening with the data itself? It must be very precious! Having access to this data of so many contributors would give any contributor or stockcompany a huge advantage over the competition how this is handled? Is the data only available on my computer and as long I protect my computer nobody can see this data even the developing-/tech- team of Stockperformer? My technical background is poor I'm just trying to understand it I have no doubt that Stockperformer is a great program!
Exactly, very good question!

And what about people who used SP before, but don't use it anymore (and didn't change their passwords to microstock sites) - are their data still being collected?

Computer Hardware / Re: 5K display
« on: October 19, 2014, 11:34 »
Wont the "average Joe" be using a 4k monitor soon?  They might not need it but that wont stop the sales people convincing them that they do.
I think not for at least 3 more years.

Also, no need to go full-on Apple mode, there's 5k displays for the PC as well: check Dell's UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K

Computer Hardware / Re: 5K display
« on: October 18, 2014, 09:10 »
I don't know.. then you have a monitor which has like 7x more pixels than the consumers who will be looking at your photos (if we assume they use 1920*1080), and when editing I like to see what the "average Joe" would see.

Also, on a monitor this sharp, pictures which are wide 900px (for example) are minuscule.

Maybe I need to see one in action, but I doubt I'll change my mind until the masses shift to 4K/5K.

I quite like photodune.

Easy to upload, and solid results.

Above canstock, deposit, bigstock and alamy for me. And dreamstime. I hate dreamstime.
