Hello,
today PantherMedia introduces officially its new website. Only the customer part of the site has changed, the upload pages still look the same to me - or am I missing something?

Hi All,
Basically our editorial upload procedure is rather simple. If you are currently a contributor at our site, the upload method is very much the same (web form). Only 2 simple steps, upload and keyword a minimum of 7 words and your editorial images are ready for reviews. Our team has been instructed to be more lenient on editorial acceptance compared to normal RF reviews.
Why not give our editorial upload a try. There's no harm trying and most of all, there's nothing to lose
Thanks for the info - any timeline for FTP upload for editorial? I'm sitting on a portfolio of 1.000+ editorial images and I'd rather not upload them via a web form

yep, looks like a mistake to me. Those shots are microstock bread and butter. I would probably just resubmit them.
What he said - someone definitely clicked the wrong button

Do they still got this special title requirement?
Yes, they do - and they are getting more and more an... - ehhh obsessive - about it. My last editorial rejections were all over the right way to type the "headline". That being said, none of the other editorial sites have problems with these titles, so I just write them the Shutterstock way and use them everywhere else. And uploading editorial to Shutterstock is definitely worth it...

It may be a very rare event, but...
I finally reached payout (applause) and I see there is an option to European bank deposit for free. Do you know if it means only Euro zone or any European (UK, in my case) bank?
It says "European account (IBAN)" - so as long as you provide them with the IBAN and SWIFT/BIC codes for your account you should be fine. I'm pretty sure that banks are not allowed to charge for money transfers within the European community (and not only the Euro zone) if you give them the correct account info and make the transfer online. Congratulations on your payment *applause* - I had one early this year and I'm now 14 Euros away from the next - so another 10 or 12 months to go

In my case I have around 5200 images on all the sites and they are pretty much the same ones excepting for the occasional rejection. Is this also true for your Alamy portfolio? Because if yes, I'm surprised that Alamy is only contributing 2% to the total. I'm nowhere near your level in quality and quantity, but my first year at Alamy shows them head to head with FT, DT and IS - maybe I just got lucky

I seriously doubt that will happen. We will be gathering dust at the back of the best match. I share your - rather bleak - view of the future of independents at IS. It will be interesting to see, though, if they can afford to let half of the collection "gather dust at the back of the best match"...

They haven't even said how many images will be in the E+ collection. I beg to differ: They said they would allow 20% of an exclusive's portfolio - which at roughly 3.000.000 exclusive images translates to 600.000 possibles - which is a lot more than Vetta is. I do not think that independents are in for a happy time at IS next year, the question - as you say - is how the price hike will play out for IStock's competition and the customers...

In the first one JJRD says - answering a question if exclusives would have a better postition in the best match come February: "We do not like, as you know, to answer such questions... with that said, if we introduce such a thing as ''Exclusive +'', controlled by exclusive contributors, chances are that the answer to your question could be yes.", in the second it's less obvious, but he still states that: "So given that statement, the conclusion is obvious, needless to say: yes, it will be easier, somehow, to find files that have been flagged by exclusive contributors as deserving to be included in Exclusive +''. Just to make sure everybody understands these quotes correctly: It's about "Exclusive Plus", a collection which is planned to be added some time next year. This collection will be at a higher price point than regular images, somewhere between regular exclusive images and Vetta. In those posts, JJRD mentions that - similar to Vetta files today - those Exclusive Plus images might get a benefit in search positioning over regular images.
Whatever it is about best match positioning for regular exclusive vs. regular non-exclusive images is based on speculation. But those quotes have nothing to do with "regular" files.
Still, if some files get promoted in the best match, others will have to fall back - and, at 20% of eligible exclusive content, we are talking a possible amount of 600.000 photos here - if every exclusive uses his/her full quota...

an admin (I think) posted something suggesting that they would tweak the best match to insure that the more expensive exclusive content sold more than the cheaper independent content. That is scary.
Maybe they feel they have enough premium submitters and are starting to close the doors for everyone else. Between the suggested best match massacre and the new levels, surely it would now take years for all but the best new shooters to move up the ranks to the point where exclusivity makes financial sense. Let me help you out here: There were two posts by JJRD stating something about "giving exclusives more exposure" and making their files "easier to find" - you can find them here: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=151691&page=21 - right at the top and here: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=151691&page=55 - sixth post from the top In the first one JJRD says - answering a question if exclusives would have a better postition in the best match come February: "We do not like, as you know, to answer such questions... with that said, if we introduce such a thing as ''Exclusive +'', controlled by exclusive contributors, chances are that the answer to your question could be yes.", in the second it's less obvious, but he still states that: "So given that statement, the conclusion is obvious, needless to say: yes, it will be easier, somehow, to find files that have been flagged by exclusive contributors as deserving to be included in Exclusive +''. 50 pages later: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=151691&page=110someone calculates, that with the new prices, Istock makes more money on an exclusive sale than on an independent sale - no matter the size of the photo. To me it is obvious where this is going, and you are right: It is scary

We are going to introduce a new upload system soon these coming weeks. More information can be found here: Since "these coming weeks" now drag on for quite a while Are there any news regarding the new upload system? On a side note: When are the contributor benefits for subscription downloads calculated? I'm pretty sure, it should have been at the end of the month in which the sale occurred. My downloads from October and November still say: "will be calculated at the end of the next month..." - at the end of which month will this happen?

I just got the following message from Fotolia: ----- Dear Contributor, We are happy to inform you that your U.S. IRS Withholding tax form has been validated. Thank you for providing the appropriate tax information. By complying with the U.S. IRS tax law and submitting the tax form, you are not subject to automatic tax withholding at the appropriate rate. Rather, withholding tax, if applicable, may be at a reduced or zero withholding rate. Feel free to contact us with any questions. Best Regards, Fotolia Team ----- While I'm happy that my tax form has been accepted (without either a ITIN or EIN), it doesn't say which rate - if any - will be applied

An istock admin said they wouln't be witholding tax, so why should Fotolia? I thouight only US companies had to do this.
They (Fotolia) are an US company - global headquarters are in NYC... I just completed their on-line W-8BEN form (without having an ITIN) and it is pending right now. As both Veer and Shutterstock accepted the W-8BENs without ITINs, I don't see why Fotolia should be any different

...Will my stockxpert images and income be added to my istock account? will I have 2 accounts on istock? Should I purge images I have here and at I stock so they don't appear in the collection twice?
As I understand it, it works like this: your StockXpert pictures stay on StockXpert but will be "phased out" on JUI and PC within 90 days, your IS pictures stay on IS and you can choose to transfer them to JUI and PC on a per photo base - they will be available by August (which sound a lot like 90 days to me). So, no, nothing will be duplicated, you won't have two accounts on IS, and Getty gets to save 5 cents on each sale you make via IS/JUI/PC - thanks a lot, guys Best regards, Herbert - who is to angry to think clearly right now...

Have SS said they will accept an EIN number? I can only see them asking for an ITIN number.
I, and some other people, asked that very question in the ongoing thread on the SS-forum - No reply yet, their approach to answering contributors' questions is a bit, shall we say "unstructured"

Can u explain this. It seems too easy. To get ITIN u need to do a W7 and send in together with Notarized Id. Is this something else? I'm not Leaf, but as far as I understand it, you are eligible for an EIN - as opposed to an ITIN - if you sell your photos as a registered business, even if it's a one man company. If you sell them as a private person you need an ITIN - at least that is my understanding...

Yes, I noticed a change and I guess they have been fiddling with the search engine for quite a while now. In April I uploaded around 80 new pics and barely made the payout in what should have been a record month. My port is not that big - around 1.100 pics - but I think it's big enough to notice changes in the search engine.
In May I have 5 days with low single digit downloads - some of them perfectly normal weekdays, like Wednesday or Thursday this week, again with 20 additional pics online. If something sells, it tends to be older files from my port...

Check the "old downloaded report", it always works better for me. Yes, I did that, but it showed the same result - it was only a subscription sale, anyway, and I'm sure it will be back sometime

Working now.
It might be working now, but I seem to have "lost" a sale which was there on Friday - is anybody else showing incorrect numbers?

I have a batch of 10 waiting for review since Monday (8th) - that's the first time I remember IStock being not the last agency to review my pics Also my sales are abysmal on 123RF in December...
