Veer / Re: Upload limits at Veer
« on: May 17, 2010, 14:48 »
It would probaly help clarify if we stopped referring to "upload limits". There isn't one. You can upload your entire port tonight if you wish! The limit is on what you can submit for review. BTW everyone keeps saying 100 a week. My account says 110 a week (are you all just rounding down for neatness?).  Good luck to everyone with their reviews. Regards, David.

Veer / Re: How do you find the submission process?
« on: May 05, 2010, 16:44 »
Ryan,

Yes, vector EPS  - exact same name as JPEG preview. I'm very careful about it.
But there's something else...
How to upload both files at the same time?
Can we even do that?

I use your browser uploader, click the 'Upload' button, select my file and watch it transferring. But it only works for a single file at a time.
Am I missing something here? :)

Thank you for trying to help me. It has been bothering me for a long time.

You aren't limited to only uploading single files when using the browser uploader.

After clicking the 'upload via browser' button, you'll get a pop-up box allowing you to select files from your computer to upload.  You should just be able to select as many as you like, hit 'enter', and it will take them all.

My apologies Eireann if I'm telling you something you already know! It took me a while to work out - so this might help someone. If you are using the browser upload method select the first file to upload then press and hold down the Control (ctrl) button on your keyboard. Then continue to click on as many further images as you want before releasing the Control button. Click on "open" and they will all upload in sequence. I tend not to go beyond 15 at a time because I use mobile broadband and it can drop out at random! In theory, though, you could click on your entire port and upload them in one hit. Good luck with your sales! Kind regards, David.

Dreamstime.com / Re: dairy upload issue
« on: May 05, 2010, 16:19 »
I'll be good enough to explain. Your title is dairy upload issue, not daily upload issue - dairy is where you have milking cows, daily refers to a day. Anyway, DT offices are in Tennessee and they have had huge floods so there are a lot of glitches in places here and there. Their thumbnails for latest uploads have not changed in a week. I think they are fixing things little by little and that might explain your odd message.

ehehe yeh daily of course, my bad!.. thanks for you explanation, everybody prefered to joke around instead of doing the right thing!

But it was fun. Thanks! No one was picking on you, just having a good laugh with cheesy jokes.

Just some homogenized, pasteurized, wholesome, Grade A fun! (Moo)

Totally second what Race said there, Luis, and anyway this whole "dairy" humour has been going on for WHEY too long ;D Kind regards, David.

you're gonna have to do the honors and pick the best joke (after consulting your dictionary) since you're the op.

Yes, but not yet Luis, I've got a feeling this thread will be running till the cows come home ;) Regards, David

Yes your right I will keep them online. But only as long as my subscription lasts. What I really mean then is in my situation I should probably focus on uploading to the big sites that I'm finding some success with.

I'm going for a read of your blog - are you full time now then?

Yes, Rob, I've always believed in spreading my work around and you will certainly see quicker results on the big sites. The higher commission at PN is what makes it attractive to me and as I find them quick and easy to upload to, I'll keep them in the loop. I guess it does depend on how much time you have to spend. What is interesting is that I have never had sales on any of my foreign travel stuff there (Greek islands/Croatia etc) which sells on the other sites. That might be an area where they could direct their marketing more in the future. And no, certainly not full time yet! Long way to go. Regards, David

Anyone had any sales since they came back online?

With >200 photos in my portfolio and not 1 sale after a year (including the downtime) I'm tempted to close my account here.

It probably because they accepted all of the guff I initally thought was worthy of being counted as stock.

Thoughts (David)?

Hi Rob, I had 3 in March and 3 so far this month. That breaks down as one med res sale (paying 4 commission) and the rest web res sales (paying 0.40). Subject wise four were celeb shots, one of an elderly couple, one of estate agent signs. Certainly, for me, editorial shots go best at PN with a smattering of scenic shots (Hastings Old Town etc). But, then, that is on a port of over 1300. I don't see the point of closing your account. You may as well just leave them on and see what happens. Good luck with your sales anyway, Regards, David.

123RF / Re: When will editorial photos go on sale at 123RF?
« on: April 28, 2010, 02:49 »
I have had several editorial photos accepted, but I see that they have not gone live.   They don't show up as part of my portfolio, and they don't come up in a search.    Has anybody heard about when they are actually going to go on sale?

I've had reasonably good luck with selling editorial at Dreamstime and Bigstock, and I'm happy to give 123RF a chance as well.    I find that there is very little rhyme or reason as to which editorial submissions each site accepts.   Some of my best editorials (in my opinion) have been rejected at Dreamstime and/or Bigstock, but I'm pleased to see that they were accepted at 123RF.

Hi Danybot, I've got over 500 editorial images ready to go live on 123. I emailed them about this a few weeks back and they replied that they were "looking at May". I think they are trying to hit a balance between leaving the launch too long (and having photographers get fed up waiting and stop uploading editorial) and launching too soon (and not having a good enough selection to interest editorial customers). Either way I guess the answer is "soon". BTW you didn't mention Shutterstock - for me this is one of the best sites for editorial sales. Good luck with your sales when they do go live. Regards, David.

I think the 12th was someone else, David.  Actually, my oldest pending is from 9 April.  I haven't submitted any editorial but understand there is a hold on adding editorial stuff to the database.  Not sure; just seem to have heard that somewhere.  ???

Yes, sorry Warren I got a bit muddled with who was saying what (age related I expect!). That sounds worrying about a hold on editorial reviews. They told me they were looking at May for the launch of their editorial offer. I got about 250 approved very rapidly but now have 185 pending going back to mid March. Nothing reviewed at all in the last couple of weeks. I just hope that they are not backing out of this -I've put in a lot of time getting mine uploaded. Has anyone else heard about a hold on editorial? Perhaps Alex could comment here (though he is probaly too busy giving away Ipads ;D). Regards, David.

Just logged in . . . things seem to be back to normal . . . 'cept for files pending from the 12th.

Is that normal?

Not sure what is normal.  Reviews seem to have been much faster in recent past.  If history repeats, such a buildup in the review queues is followed by massive rejections.

Yes, I'm back in too! Warren, can I ask  -the 12th of what? I have Editorial images pending from March 13. Later uploads have been reviewed randomly (e.g. some from each batch) so I now have 185 pending stretching back over a month! I would have expected them to come up for review in a chronological order but obviously not. Regards, David.

New Sites - General / Re: Has anyone tried British Images?
« on: March 17, 2010, 07:21 »
Very strange. I had assumed this site had long since closed but I just found that I could log into my account and search my images. I even tried uploading and keywording an image -just to see what would happen. It's now "pending". On the other hand the email contact on the site doesn't work (got returned undelivered right away) and still unable to update my address and contact details. I'm posting them a letter (if I can remember how ;D ) just to ask the obvious question -are you still in business or not? Anyone have any current information about this site? Regards, David.

I've had some editorials accepted awhile ago but I can't see them in my portfolia. Do they keep editorial and RF separated?

I think they are waiting until they have a worthwhile amount to launch the Editorial side. None of mine are searchable yet either. I've only uploaded about 20 so far and must find time to do some more. Regards, David.

about BS upload,Uploaded a couple edited them and can't seem to find where to submit  for review.

Just edited and submitted a batch myself. I had to hit "save data" first, then the "submit for approval" (upper right). There isn't the old "Save & Submit" as before (as far as I can tell so far!). That said I personally love the new look. Very clean and modern. I agree with cclapper though -I like to see my current earnings as soon as you log in (saves time if just doing a quick sales check). I got excited just now, but still just the one $1.75 sale since day one :'(  The surge has obviously passed my little 101 port by (possibly because a lot of it gets zero results when you search by the main keywords for my images). Oh well.... Regards, David.

You're welcome, newsfocus. We're working on getting your account activated now.

It's true that we didn't mention it anywhere; I think we might have overlooked this. I've already escalated this to management and we'll come up with a solution soon. However at the moment, for those of you that are strictly editorial contributors and experience a similar situation where your queue is not moving, or if you have any other problems coming from the submission process, please contact us by this email: [email protected]

Thanks again fai, I just checked my account and my initial submissions have moved from pending to accepted. Looking forward to getting uploading now! Regards, David.

@newsfocus1: I'm guessing that you're  a new user, and that you've only uploaded to our editorials so far? If you are, then chances are you have not been approved as a contributor yet. Our review net for passing new photographers does not take into account editorial upload amounts.  I think that's why your contributions aren't being reviewed.

Can you please provide me with your userid on 123rf? Please feel free to drop me a PM if you don't feel comfortable revealing it here. We will check for it and approve your membership right away so we can start reviewing your photos.

Thanks fai, that is exactly the situation! I did wonder if that was why it was taking so long. I doubt that I am the only new contributor to 123RF in this situation as there was nothing said about not submitting only editorial images as your initial selection for becoming a contributor (unless I missed it).  My user ID at 123 is the same as here "newsfocus1" . Thanks in advance and looking forward to uploading plenty more editorial images as soon as approved. Regards, David.

Thanks for being positive FD. We are doing our best to make the editorials a success. And in that spirit, our staff have done their update, so please be informed that:

The editorial is back up

Please continue your submissions, thanks!

Hi fai, I'd love to continue my submissions but: I uploaded my initial batch of Editorial on the 20th Jan (archive shots of Margaret Thatcher/Gordon Brown/Tony Blair/Boris Yeltsin etc). Still awaiting approval two weeks later. My understanding is that I can't upload more until my initial batch is appoved (note: I wasn't previously with 123 -signed up when you announced the Editorial launch). My ID uploaded sucessfully. Maybe you are just swamped with Editorial stuff to review? I'm not one to bother about slow approval times normally but would like to be kicking loads of images in prior to your Editorial launch. If there was a problem with my submission please let me know! Regards, David.

Hi David. I saw your referral link for them on your blog. Signed up and uploaded first five. Got all approved and email from them this morning. One thing troubles me. The emails I get from them have nothing in the "From" line. When I got the approval email, I went to the site to upgrade to PN Pro. What the heck, it's only 10. Clicked on the link in second step to verify email and nothing happened. I had already clicked on the link in the first email they send to verify email. Anyway, I couldn't go any further to upgrade. Sent a message via their Contact Us link. Got a nice reply back from the postal service that:

"This is the mail system at host www.picturenation.co.uk.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below."

Hmmmm ... so how do you contact them? David, you're having such good luck with them, wouldn't return mail like this be a little suspicious, or do you have another way of contacting them?

Don't want to put too much time into this if I'm beating a dead horse.

Hi Carolyn, sorry you are having problems upgrading. I think their email system might be glitching a bit since coming back online. I got 17 approval emails today of which 15 were from "unknown" and 2 from "picturenation team". I'm certain there is nothing suspicious here. Rather than using the "contact us" bit on the site itself, try just sending a regular email to [email protected].  I have had a whole batch of direct email contact with them over the last few weeks without any problems. Do let me know via Shootingstock if a direct email doesn't get a response and I'll speak to them myself. Kind regards, David.

Back in business, place your bets please!  ::)

All my images are still there - but its where I started out and they would accept literally anything - so understandably my worst work. But at least they managed to keep all their data.

! You beat me to it on here! Mind you, I did upload to them before coming here ;) Everything seems to be working fine and my images and commission are still there.
Good luck with your sales. Regards, David.

Was the uploading process any quicker? They claim that it has been improved.

Hi, it was quick enough. I uploaded about 40 images in batches of five over the weekend. I'm the wrong one to ask though because I use Mobile Broadband and speeds vary here on the coast minute by minute. Sometimes super fast and sometimes painfully slow. Depends on how many seagulls are flapping about outside my window ;D BTW I was wrong about my images. Four aren't showing up (just the wording but no image) but that's out of about 1200 online so I'm quite happy with that. They might just re-appear but if not I'll just resend them. Regards, David.

Thanks David, same to you. After such a long time offline I was expecting a complete overhaul of the website. At first glance it appears to be exactly the same as when it went down a few months back. Has anyone noticed any changes?

I think they were concentrating on all the "behind the scenes" stuff! The site design was pretty recent anyway so I doubt that's a priority. Just pleased to see them back. Regards, David.

Thanks for the reply David, editorial is not something I'd considered for micros, I don't do that sort of stuff but the small amount of editorial that I do take I put on Alamy, for someone with your background is it something you think will take off or are you testing the water.

Hi Richard, It certainly does well on SS and I recently joined DT where, so far, it is doing well. Got quite a few sales on the UK agency as well, but I've promised myself not to mention them tonight! By editorial, in my case, it's a mix of archive celeb shots Margaret Thatcher etc and everyday events like the Hastings marathon/ May Day procession (e.g. street pictures featuring loads of people). Obviously, if I ever had a hot news story I'd be contacting the national press first, not putting it on microsites, but for editorial shots sitting on file  I find it worthwhile. BTW signed up to 123RF today, so we'll see how they go when they launch the editorial side. Regards, David.

and not forgetting Picturenation here in the UK (once they are back online)
They won't. And if ever, current street scenes will look like archeology.  ;D

LOL ;D Love it Flemish! There I go "pampering the dead" again (still think that would make a brilliant name for a rock/goth band). Seriously though, I have been in direct contact with them in the last week. They are working flat out to get the site back up. No firm date yet but I am quite assured from what they told me that it is happening. Mind you, with the amount of shops going out of business in the UK, a street scene from last week could look like archeology ;D Kind regards, David.
